It is not hard to whittle out a set of Rudiger Roll aka Fire Roll boards... the top and bottom boards. I had planned on searching the woods and burn pile for a good, straight grained, and clear 8" chunk of log to make them out of. LOL! I didn't have to go far. The 12' Pine log right there at the fire table had a good enough piece in it to use.
Come see how well this little 7" set of boards turned out and how well they worked right on the ground to produce 2 easy friction fires.

I've seen a couple videos of this style of lighting now, and where a lot of them claim to be able to get smoke going in between 60-90 seconds, you got the the first one smoking in only 40 seconds once you got into it, including 2 stops where you inspected it, and you really stopped and studied it for a good few seconds each time. Meaning following your video, I'll take approximately 30 seconds of constant rolling. That's a hell of a lot quicker than many styles I've encountered. Impressive

Every question I have asked you in the past , you have taken the time to answer me and that is very much appreciated!
Your videos are so educational .. Thankyou !! I’m thinking the reason I was failing at my attempts with the shorter boards was I wasn’t fixing the bottom board on the ground etc .. like you did here..
I was always trying holding both boards ( one in each hand ) and rubbing .. regrettably with no success..
Now I’ve seen your proof that it can be done and can’t wait to try it your way ! The proper , successful way !!! 👍 Thankyou for this !!

A fallen Beech or pine without the bark makes a good "bottom board" or a boulder or flat rock. Just a split piece of wood for a "top board" sometimes you don't have to split the wood just use the round surface... They're all in that playlist.

Wondering if cigarette ash would work with this method. If you've tried it?
What other ashes/ elements could go as igniting elements in this method? Like coal dust, magnasium shavings/ dust, ferrocium dust etc.
