MAKITA MAC2400 - IS THIS SIZE AIR COMPRESSOR ALL YOU REALLY NEED - READ DESCRIPTION BELOW

  • This was a test to see if a much smaller compact air compressor like the Makita MAC2400 shown will do the job for most diyers. For experiment purposes only we did see the drop in the static pressure of 130 psi compared to the working pressure. Do not run your air tools over the recommended air pressure. If you have an extremely long and undersize inside diameter air hose the recommended air pressure of 90 psi it may not provide enough volume of air for the pneumatic tool used. I turn the air pressure up till I get 90 psi working pressure displayed on my homemade gauge . Off camera at 90 psi static pressure the Makita MAC2400 air compressor did provide the volume of air for the impact wrench to remove the trucks wheel nuts easily. A fun experiment - always think safety. You have to match your air hose and fittings to provide the required air volume . Cheers !!

    Nice test Steve, that small compressor is kicking ass and taking names. You're right, the pressure needs to be measured while the tool is running. 👍

    Run impacts off dual stage 175psi compressors for years. Really wakes tools up. All the dealership shops here do the same. Now the switch to cordless tools is here.

    Air compressors have come a long way lately. Always lots of arguments about how much you really need. Bigger hose adds a lot o power to your tools. Thank you for the video, Steve

      It is an impressive compressor, but not quite as quiet as some of the California Air Tools compressors, which are among the quietest of the compressors available to DIYers. I have a very small shop and notice noise a lot more than some people. It would be interesting to see what others have done to make this MAC 2400 compressor just a little bit quieter, without spending big bucks. Regardless, I plan to keep and use my MAC 2400 for the next couple of decades.

    I run mine at 110 normally. If I need to do a Honda Crank bolt I turn it up to 130. I would like to see how well that small compressor will keep up with a angle grinder and a cut off wheel.

      STEVE ROB REVIEWS My MAC 2400 does also, but I use a long 3/8” hose with 1/4” fittings. Any suggestions on using a “helper tank” in the line to increase the amount of available high pressure air when using an air wrench to remove car or truck tires, or crankshaft bolts, etc.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  10 місяців тому

      @rapaent That will depend on the cfm used . As long as your using less cfm than the output it will maintain 100 psi. My brake bleeder works great with this compressor , I don't have it cranked up to 100 psi .

    Man, you got hosed on the hose!
    I run my impacts and just about everything at 140-150psi coming off the compressor. For the tools I don't want that much pressure going through, I have regulators and gauges on them.
    I think most people could get by with a smaller tank. The only reason I got a larger one is because I paint cars with it.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  6 років тому

      Getting hosed on the hose eh:) most could get away with a small compressor if they dont need huge volumes of air. Big compressors do have their place if you have the space and electric supply.

    I use use 3/8 hose and 3/8 high flow fittings to help reduce air volume loss. I don't wanna squeeze king syrup thru a baby nipple.😆 I don't need any more, if I did, I would switch to 1/2 hose and fittings. As long as the motor gets a decent break between cycles the compressor is big enough.

    I'm looking seriously at the MAC5200. I think it would be perfect for my DIY type of needs. I generally only use impacts and wrenches but I do so very slowly, usually a couple of minutes between nuts/bolts. Lug nuts would be the exception I guess. People seems to think they need a giant compressor to keep up with their delusions of NASCAR pit crew levels of use. When in reality, they end up hardly using it anywhere near its real capacity.

      Just turn up the pressure I'd think. You have 1/4 air fittings ? Theres a restriction. I have a pressure gauge inline at the gun to read the outlet pressure. Crank up the pressure and see how it does if you have it set at 90 psi at the tank its most likely not 90 at the gun running. Try that.
