Aw man, that 90 rickie rifle was a heavy bitch. Weighed like 35 pounds empty and was bulky, too. I pity the gunners that had that thing and the ammo bearers that had to carry the rounds for it. Each round was like 10 pounds IIRC. I know we had those things in our unit but I don’t remember if we actually had to carry them on missions or if guys just carried LAW rockets for bunkers and such. LAWs were very much lighter and easier to carry under the top flap of the rucksack.
Cool. My grandpa was a helicopter pilot. He was shot down once and waiting like a day for another chopper to rescue them. He retired a master chief. I miss my grandparents.
@@beachhead85yea I can back this up. This wasn’t super common but it definitely would happen, especially when not on the frontline. Also these covers were just covers so they would get torn overtime to the point where they would be torn to shreds so guys sometimes would ditch them all together.

Hi Greening, there are in fact photos of some infantry and MPs without the fabric cover on their M1. It was not commonly seen, but it did happen.
