- Come along as I'm joined by family and some new friends for the opening weekend of the AZ Quail season as we chase Gambels Quail. If you didn't know I recently bred Rue, my Braque Francais, and had a couple of the new puppy buyers in town to pick up their new hunting buddies. We made it a trip to remember by fitting in a little hunt. You can see some puppy pictures by following the link below.

Such a cool overall hunt and “feel”. Man what a dream to hunt with the dogs and handlers that created your future bird dog!! Man I love this page and MY home state AZ!!
Thanks for the kind words!!
Finally we get some AZQA content! So glad to see y'all get out there and get the whole gang involved. Can't wait to follow along. Keep them coming!

Be sure to let me know when you are down here this time so we can try to make it out!
@@azquailadventures will do!
Would like to get start hunting quail but don’t know where to start. Great video!
Thanks for watching! The AZGFD has some good information online. There are some good tips on this video as well ua-cam.com/video/l2qmD6sEDdk/v-deo.html
@@azquailadventures thanks for the info! I’ll be sure to check it out!
Great video Spencer! The way your wife could jam up the hill and still give you crap is a great ad for CrossFit..lol
Thank you! She is a Bad Ass for sure!!
Congrats on the opening weekend success - looks like a riot!
Thanks man! It was a good time for a minute there 😁
Got 12 on opening day with my 11 month old gsp… The birds we were working were very flighty for some reason. Couldn’t get within 20-40 yards without them flushing, didn’t get to many points but she did find and retrieve my birds 👍🏻
Thanks for your videos.. they kept me going all off season! Happy hunting!
That's Awesome! Glad you were able to get out and get into them. Nothing like a young dog figuring out the game! Thanks for the kind words!!
Thank you again! Even better there's a video we can share with our family and friends. You da man!
It was so Awesome to have you and Eli out. You have raised one fine young man. He and that pup are in for some grand adventures. Still have Blue available for you 😁
@azquailadventures it was hard for me not to take him too, but my wife's probably right, one at a time is probably enough. I'll stay tuned though!
Grew up in the 60's and 70's hunting quail behind short-hairs. Great memories of those hunts. Looks like you had a lot of fun, congrats.
Thank you!! It's all about making those memories!!
THE PUPPIES ARE BACK!!!
Yeah Baby!!! 🤣🤣
@@azquailadventures 😁
Nice vid and nice opener. Hoping to get out this weekend haven't gotten out yet.
Not sure I'm feeling the horizon leveling feature on the gopro. The crop might be too much and it seems more bouncy?? Undecided on it really.
Also 19:14 where it studders when you key frame in the zoom, I think it has something to do with the horizon leveling feature as well. Makes zero sense why this would happen but when I tried to edit a buddies clip that had horizon leveling on it did the same thing when trying to key frame zoom and position.
Thanks! Not shooting on a GoPro. Not sure I have Horizon leveling on with the current set up. I set it up last year and haven't touched it since. The birds fly so fast that in 4K 60fps you can't get clean images when zooming in. If I run the cam in anything faster I have overheating issues so it isn't worth it to me. If I was shooting production value TV show that would be a different story but for my little fun YT channel it works for me. Good Luck if you get out!
@@azquailadventures Hmm no the shots of you just looking around felt more cropped in than normal... guess I'm just imagining things.
And no the birds look fine, no more or less detailed then anybody else's vids when zoomed. The zoom pan in at that spot just looked strange like it had a weird studder or blur that it doesn't normally. I've had it happen to me on clips that had horizon level on and thought maybe it was related to that.
BTW I thought overheating was a patented exclusive feature of gopro's 😂
@@azquailadventures also the Mylar ballon thing was true
@@TheRoamingHazard Every time!!
Do you wear snake gators all year?
We don't wear them at all. Those are regular gators that you see on my wife. She doesn't like stickers getting in her socks🤣
@@azquailadventures thanks. I’m heading out this year to finally have a Arizona bucket 🪣 list hunt
@@BirdDogsWithBob Awesome! When are you coming? If you are coming sometime Dec-Feb you don't need to worry as much about snakes. They are still around but it is cold enough that even if we see them they are pretty inactive.
@@azquailadventures I am coming in those months
@@BirdDogsWithBob Perfect! You will have a blast! Let me know when you get down here. Would love to meet up for a day if it works out!
What part of Arizona do you find best for quail?
My honest and best answer is the part you can go to often enough to learn it. There are so many good places to chase Quail in AZ that I couldn't begin to name them all and on a public forum like this I wouldn't name any directly either. I'm sincere when I say the place you can go, that is the best place.
Great opening day, do you shoot a 28 gauge, if so, what is the farthest shot you can take with one?
Thank you! Yes. I love my 28! I've hit out to 60 yards with it but on Gambels my usual distance is 20-30 yds. for most and a few at 40.
@@azquailadventures Nice I'm looking to get one, what choke and shot size do you use typically?
@@daneboro6847 I run IC/Mod in the O/U. I shoot 7.5 or 8 shot for quail. 5 or 6 for anything bigger.
