Solo was criminally underrated and even hated. It's great. The casting was pretty awesome. Rogue One is absolutely AMAZING. You'll love it. I think Solo and Rogue One are the best things film-wise to come out of the Disney era of Star Wars, particularly Rogue One.

You are definately right. Problem was timing and bad marketing. In cinema I was mildly entertained, but that was just because it was released so soon after the Last Jedi. Later when I watched the blue ray, I had a better feeling about it and now I just feel bad, because the story is never finished. Same we now have with the Acolyte series.

When Han is at the space port, an imperial recruitment ad is playing. In the ad you can hear the Imperial March. This means that Darth Vader's theme exists in-universe. I now imagine every time you hear it in the original trilogy there's a band of storm troopers just off screen playing it for dramatic effect. This is my head canon.

1:05:18 Yes, that very much is the same Darth Maul. at this point in Star Wars, we need to be aware that the big story is told over many different mediums, the Movies are the flagships, but there are television shows to take into consideration too, both animated and Live action. to learn why Maul showed up at this time as a big crime lord, you might want to look into the animated show The Clone Wars.
the Show is great, it tells the story of what happened during the war in between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. and fleshes out so much of the characters.

Honestly, I'm tired of paying for movies that are "not that bad". We keep excusing movies that are "not that bad", and they keep making them. Ultimately, I think this movie failed because it's too much of a one off. I imagine someone sat down and outlined the key points: Introduce Solo, meet Chewie, meet Lando, meet the Falcon, Kessel Run, Solo wins the Falcon, and have a love interest that no one cares about because we know Solo ends up with Leia. Now, fill in a story that connects all of those points.
It was never going to work.

That is in fact Darth Maul. He returned in events that happened in the Clone Wars show.
The opening crawl is reserved for the main Skywalker Saga films
The clones aren’t gone from dying out, they were phased out for non clone volunteers and conscripts for numerous reasons. Accelerated aging made their physical skills & abilities deteriorate faster, they were expensive to make, most had a sense of morality that didn’t mesh with the Empire, etc. though there’s still a small amount serving the Empire
They said Chewie hadn’t been fed in 3 days, but they didn’t say they’d been feeding him people. And even if they did, it may have been his only source of food.
    Qi’ra was sold to Dryden.
Yes, Dryden’s face marks become more pronounced when he’s stressed or angry.
“It’s that guy [in the droid fighting ring], whatever his name is” Do you mean the actor? Because that character has never appeared before. The actor is Ron Howard’s brother, Clint
    L3’s voice is Phoebe Waller-Bridge
3PO mentioned the spice mines of Kessel in Episode 4.
Teras Kasi is a martial art meant to be used against force users. Makes sense that Dryden would’ve learned it and taught it to Qi’ra since Maul is their boss.
_Anakin_ is the best pilot in the galaxy. Maybe after he died Han could claim that title.
L3 being uploaded into the Falcon is a retroactive reference to EpV. 3PO said the Falcon had a peculiar dialect.
Enfys Nest’s unmasking is just meant to show she’s younger than expected for a marauder/pirate, and a woman. Beckett thought Enfys was a man.
Warwick Davis is actually reprising his human character Weazel that was in the podrace audience in Phantom Menace
What? Yes, Han killed Beckett. Han shoots first!
Qi’ra’s story is continued in comics. Her backstory when her and Han were separated is explored in a novel.
If you pay very close attention, you can actually see Han’s dice hanging in the Falcon in Episode 4 at one point. It wasn’t till the new films that they were seen up close

When Han shoots Beckett at the end I believe it was a nod to "Han shot first". It's a controversial change that was made in the original movies where Han shoots Greedo in the cantina. Originally Han shot first but George Lucas decided that made Han look a little too mean so he edited it to make Greedo shoot at Han and then Han shoots back. This annoyed a lot of people and it became a thing.

The owner of the Mos Eisley cantina is actually a Wookiee named Chalmun, lol.
Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina, also known simply as Chalmun's Cantina, or as the Mos Eisley Cantina, was a drinking and dining establishment located in the city of Mos Eisley on the desert world of Tatooine. Although a dimly lit tavern known for frequent outbreaks of violence, it was a popular stopping point for pilots, smugglers, bounty hunters, alien misfits, and renegades.
Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina was a sandstone construct originally constructed by early Tatooine pioneers as a fortification against Tusken Raider (Sand People) raids. It was located on Inner Curved Street in the outskirts of the Mos Eisley spaceport on Tatooine. The building housed a bar area with a maximum occupancy of 102 patrons, with seats at the bar and at a variety of tables and booths.
As Mos Eisley expanded, the building saw use as an armory, a brewery and a flophouse for vagrants. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, the cantina had changed ownership twice since the Clone Wars : the Ranat siblings known as the Vriichon brothers turned the building into an illegal spice (drug) den, until sometime before the Clone Wars, the building was purchased by the Wookiee Chalmun, who legitimized the business by turning it back into a bar for spacers arriving into the busy spaceport of Mos Eisley.
Chalmun was a male Wookiee and the owner of Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley, Tatooine. Originally a street fighter, he swindled tourists on Ord Mantell until he had enough money to buy his cantina from the Vriichon brothers. Despite his desire to enforce certain rules, his establishment was known for its occasional outbreaks of shocking violence, and even Chalmun himself had shady dealings with local gangsters.
Over time, it became a successful landmark of Tatooine, with many coming to the planet to pursue connections in the establishment. Under his employ was the gruff human Wuher, who, despite not being the friendliest bartender in the galaxy, was respected by his customers for never asking any questions, and Ackmena, the female night-shift bartender, who had friendlier manners.
The cantina's bar had twelve drinks available on tap, with the size of a standard drink being 16 ounces. The most popular drinks at the cantina were blue milk, Tatooine Sunset, Jawa Juice, Yatooni Boska, Tatooni Junko, and Hutt's Delight. There was also a secret drinks list that patrons could ask for, which included the items Red Dwarf, Cassandra Sunrise, Nova Blaster, and Flameout.
Frequent clients were privy to a number of special accommodations that could be requested from the owners. If a patron were to ask for the "Nova Blaster with Savareen Brandy swapped for Corellian", the patron would then be escorted into a hidden gun closet where they could purchase black market weapons.
The Bith "Fiery" Figrin D'an, kloo horn player and leader of the Modal Nodes, was a regular act at Chalmun's Cantina.
    Anti-droid policy :
A deep-seated anti-droid sentiment, also known as droidophobia, existed in some segments of the galactic citizenry. While hostility towards droids dated back to ancient times, anti-droid sentiment was exacerbated by the Confederacy of Independent Systems's active use of battle droids during the Clone Wars. This sentiment continued into the Age of the Empire and the rise of the New Republic. Some worlds like Nakadia did not welcome droids. Droids were also excluded from some establishments such as Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina.
The relationship between organics and mechanicals was rocky from early on, as could be attested by historical records of ancient uprisings and clashes that took place as droids became increasingly commonplace. Some came to fear them, regarding them as an "existential threat to biological life." According to R0-GR, aka "Roger" (a B1-series battle droid and veteran of the Separatist Droid Army during the Clone Wars), several attempted droid uprisings occurred in history, which fueled human concerns about droids rising against their masters.
― Mos Eisley Cantina house rules :
"Leave your droids outside. You don't want Wuher on your case."
"Keep your blaster holstered! Why ask for trouble?"
"Find an empty table or barstool. Crowding other customers will only end in tears."
"Be friendly. Buy a drink for your neighbor at the bar."
"Applaud the band - even if they're way off-key!"
"Make pleasant conversation and try to laugh at bad jokes."
"Tip the bartender, especially if you make a mess."

Ha! "It's that guy!" That guy is Clint Howard. Ron Howard's little brother, who was also a child actor, and among other things, Ron Howard will usually give him a supporting role or cameo in his movies. I forget the whole drama, but someone else had started out directing this film, there were issues, and Ron Howard took over. Oh. I'm assuming you know who Ron Howard is. If you don't... I mean, I don't know, but he was a child actor on TV, first as Opie on "The Andy Griffith Show", then as a teenager, he was Richie Cunningham on "Happy Days", and then went on to be one of the best filmmakers with a pretty astonishing career.

This movie is way underrated. I think it's because of over-saturation of Star Wars movies and series at the time. I may be biased because Han and Chewie were my favs but an origin story for them? Are you joking? Who doesn't like it?!

    • @andywascher2227
      @andywascher2227 2 місяці тому

One of the primary criticisms was that the origin story was mostly a bulleted list of things we already knew happened or were significant, so even though we saw Lando and Chewie and the Kessler Run, that’s all stuff we already *knew.* They could’ve shown character-defining story content we have no idea about, and unfortunately in this movie it gets a little pandering and overly nostalgic
These are, in a nutshell, the “fair” and thoughtful complaints. In general Star Wars fans hate everything until the next piece of cinema comes out-then they hate that one.
      It rhymes, it’s like poetry.

This is NOT the first time Disney did a Star Wars movie. Rogue One is the first Disney Star Wars movie, and in my opinion, it's one of the best Star Wars movies ever made. It fits perfectly into the Star Wars movies, set just before New Hope. Solo got panned even before it was released by Star Wars fans who never wanted the universe to be expanded. But honestly, I think it's a pretty good movie. Star Wars fans can be unforgiving and irrational. A lot of us love being able to explore the universe and different stories within it.

Finally some appreciation for Solo. I genuinely did like watching this movie.
There are still clones but they were phased out. The Bad Batch shows this perfectly.
The imperial march played "patriotically" within the universe too, and more ominously not that much later when the on-the-ground battle was shown.
Kessel, a direct reference to Han's Kessel Run mentioned in ANH, and shows in its entirety in this too.
Lando the cheater back at it again! That's why they did that unique handshake in ESB, to see if he has anything hidden in his wrist, and it was also shown in this movie (first time in timeline-order) and I think he stole the card(s) that Lando was going to use to cheat and used them himself. That's why Lando was confused why he didn't have the cards he needed. I could be wrong though.
Aurra Sing, actually seen in TPM, and a bit character in The Clone Wars.
I think the Falcon was Lando's.
I loved seeing that table-top hologram game again.
They did play Han's music a lot, and I loved it, and even the trench run music, and also the music when they show the Death Star in ANH. I also heard the asteroid field chase scene music from ESB in this.
At least we know L3 lives on in the ship. 🥲
Now with the escape pod gone off the Falcon, it looks exactly like it does in the OT, in the front.
Their path was locked in. That's why even though the ship turned in a different direction it was able to line itself up again.
    Oh yes, that's Maul.

To learn more about Han & Chewie's early adventures, look for the Han Solo novels by Brian Daley. They were published in 1978 & 1979, before "Empire Strikes Back" was released, and are among the earliest spin-off books. There are also three books about Lando's adventures. They're by L. Neil Smith and were published around 1983, just after "Return of the Jedi" was released.

This movie killed the Spin off film series that was also going to involve Obi Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett.
The original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired from the project after they showed Kathleen Kennedy 90 minutes of footage, and when she saw the footage, she said it was too much of a comedy and not an actual action adventure film, telling the duo that they were no longer needed. Ron Howard was hired to do 4 months of reshoots and was listed as the new director.

Can't wait for you to watch Andor! Also, a lot of your confusion about stormtroopers and clone troopers will be answered by watching the animated series. In short, which of course includes spoilers from the animates series, the clones are phased out during the start of the Empire. However, some certain clones were kept in positions like training instructors, experiments(on the clones), certain commanding positions if the clone was of high rank within The Republic. Some were used for special military units within the Empire. Some clones managed to remove the chip they had implanted in their brains, which was the thing that allowed the Empire to override "free will" and make the clones unconditionally follow orders. Some of these clones not loyal to the Empire formed insurgent groups, and others directly joined the Rebel Alliance. I don't entirely remember why the Empire decided to stop using clones, but this storyline is explored in "The Bad Batch" which is a sort of spin-off sequel of The Clone Wars.

Yes it was Maul (see all previous comments) and yes Han shot first. That scene btw was a big wink to the cantina scene where Han was about to be shot by the alien bountyhunter Greedo. In the original cinematic version Han shot first. Later George Lucas altered it in new digitalized version for VHS, where Greedo shot first. This made a lot of Star Wars quite mad and "Han shot first" became a kind of meme. On the remastered cinematic version from the 90's, they shoot about at the same time, but Greedo a little faster, then on DVD they shot at the same time. Cant remember where we stand now. I think the draw at the same time, but Han just shoots a little quicker. Anyway: Han shot first.
