What is a MOBA?
Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas, or MOBAs for short, originated as a sub-genre of the RTS (Real-Time Strategy) genre. Because of this, in most MOBA games, the player takes control of a single character from the isometric (top-down) view akin to most RTS games. Typically, in MOBA games, a player takes control of a single character on one of two teams. Those players choose characters that all have their own abilities, or “kits”. To win, the players must use a combination of abilities, teamwork, and strategy to not only best their opponent, but destroy the opponents main structures. A bonus to the genre is that most MOBAs are free games, which is definitely a contributing factor of the their massive success. The genre has many titles, the largest of which being Defense of the Ancients (DoTA) and DoTA 2, League of Legends (LoL), and most recently SMITE!
What is SMITE?
SMITE is one of the more recent free MOBA games to enter the fray. In SMITE you don’t just choose a character, you choose a god. You’ll instantly feel an attachment to characters like Thor and Zeus because even if you don’t know the lore behind them, you’ve at least heard their names before! What makes SMITE so immersive is Hi-Rez Studios’ inclusion of historical lore into the gods’ abilities, kits, and play styles. Thor and Loki aren’t just characters from Marvel comics and movies. They’re also a part of Norse mythology and you can take control of them in SMITE!
What makes SMITE different?
SMITE takes all of the strategy of the top MOBA games and adds another layer of difficulty by putting you into the action! Unlike most MOBA games, SMITE offers players the chance to experience the MOBA genre they know and love from a third-person perspective. This unique perspective allows for an extremely immersive experience unlike any other game in the genre. While this doesn’t sound like such a big change, once you play it you’ll understand! All of these things added together is what has gaming websites everywhere continually rating SMITE as one of the best MOBA games available!

think this is my favourite smite reveal lore video, love the way smite lady (dont know her real name) tells the stories. she would be quite good on audible books. also the april fools vid is hilarious between her and the over voice overs. will we be getting amaterasu's brother one day? wanna see how the team designs him since hes been in alot of media (shin megami, persona, digimon etc)

I just noticed something about the glyphs at Amaterasu's feet during her "Divine Presence" ability. They're based on actual family/clan kamon (emblems) from Japanese history. The "Valor" symbol is the crest of the Oda Clan, the "Oda Mokkou," while the "Benevolence" symbol is the kamon of the three Izumo-Genji Clans. Very nice, Hi-Rez really did their homework- then again, they're usually really good about this sort of thing to begin with.
I would love to see Inari, maybe having their ult turn them into a Ninetailed fox! That would be so amazing.

OMG AMATERASU'S ULT IS LIKE THE RELEASE GUAN YU ULT AND COULD DEAL SOOOOOO MUCH DAMAGE
So let me get this straight, she's got an passive that makes the enemies take increased dmg from all source after 3 basic, a aura that can give movement speed or power, silence and dash, an ult that has crazy mobility, dmg and stuns on last hit. Testing is not needed to see something is wrong here
Also on her 2nd ability she takes reduced dmg while charging

+William James Reynolds Well, seeing that her ult is literally the same (copy paste) of the old removed Guan ult, and guan has a dash and a chargeable "line" ability with a bonus, aswell as a supporting-skill. We can compare her to him like:
-Longer dash and added silence
-Heals self only, but buffs the team with auras
-Line ability with longer range instead of instant continuous damage and reduced enemy protections, it's a charge that can be charged while you do other things for a bigger burst while you take reduced damage.
-Same ult
-Better passive
So, depending on the values on the damage, the scaling and the CD she can be really strong or just good.
We all remember release Guan Yu as being broken af so, take what you want from this.

TheSoulGambit Yeah the cymbals and the crashes of Guan Yu almost made the ultimate, as well as the high leaps. I think Hi-Rez considers this cheesy now, which is why they didn't put it in ( a shame,) but like you said, hype nonetheless.

I'm a bit disappointed by the sword. The legends of Amaterasu predate the invention of the Katana, so her sword would look very simple, like an iron-age sword.
But It's pretty obvious they changed that to make the character more recognizable as Japanese.

Most of the main Japanese deities would be warriors or mages, so here is a minor deity that can be an assassin, Futsunushi, god of swords, he is one of Amaterasu's generals, and shinto priest are required to wear Nihonto of him while at the shrine.

Played against her in every match last night. So OP it's amazing that it was released. But that seems to be the formula, release OP God to get buzz and then take her down a notch or for her 10.
- Passive 3 hits in a row, causes more dmg from any source, and those around that enemy also take more dmg
- Ra lane clear that reduces dmg while charging
- Aura for Power/Movement that also heals her
- Interrupting long Dash
- Easy, quick ULT like Nemesis' Slice and Dice that slows on 2nd hit and stuns for 2 seconds on 3rd hit like Change's ULT. You don't even have to be hit in the first 2 swings, but if you're hit in the 3rd, you stun too.
Basically, took the best of so many gods and made it into one. Not to mention was impossible to kill.
They need to remove her heal, reduce her dash range, reduce the width of her ULT and make only those hit consecutively take the additional slow/stuns to make her even close to balanced.
I think we just met Solaire of Astora's girlfriend.
They should do Celtic and Slavic gods after they finish japanese. Or finally man up and release Beowulf and Achilles already!

Amaterasu's passive: WHen she die, she may chose to reborn instantly at that location with full health and mana and gain damage and CC immunity for 2 seconds. Or She can chose to reborn at base instantly and gain 80% movement speed for 5 seconds when leaving the fountain.
But she can only revive 7 times. After 7 times. She can't respawn again.

And of course each time she die, It's really count to enemies kill and her dead. And they will get gold for that.
So I think the strategy is to focus on her early game to make the game become 5 v 4 after she die 7 times.

Actually I wasn't 100% serious about that comment. That passive is just based on her line "I may fall seven times but will rise up each" I didn't see her lore say anything about that though.
Yes. An ability that may stop a god from respawn for the res of the game is too strange. We have abilities to revive, to make people move unintended, to blind the screen, Even buy item without have to be in fountain. But we didn't have any abilities that affect how a god spawn.(Khepri, Kumba, Chiron, Kali doesn't count because they didn't actually dead so it's not affect respawn time)
So I guess respawn time will remain untouched. In Yugi-oh (a trading card game) there even a card that make 2 players shake hand lol. But no card stop a player from losing after their Life point reach 0.
