    Today I took a drive to the drive through food bank and popped my trunk. What we get is a mystery until we get home. This one was full of wonderful produce that will be used up or preserved for sure!

    Hey there, Suzzie👋🥰 Nice haul...I adore cabbage. You were truly blessed! If those are Jerusalem artichokes they are used in much the same way as a potato, but I've seen them sliced, battered and fried as well. And if they are yams...even better! Have a blessed day 🥰

      Yes! Thank you! I have yet to get in the kitchen and cook them up. I might to it today by roasting them with a little oil, salt and pepper as a side.

    I like how you put the cantaloupe in the fancy glass! I like doing that too. Makes it more festive. Try sprinking it with a little salt or other spices, changes up the flavors and makes it even prettier. Hope they were sweet!

    Those yams look kinda like a spanish root, but not sure. I used to be a cashier and we got all kinds of cool produce through our line. It was really fun but all the standing killed my legs and back. You got a LOT of lovely items for your haul this week. Take care. ( I just saw in another comment that they are).

    Wow, Suzzie - you got a lot of nice things! I was wondering if you’d get some of the same things. We did have a few things in common, but in different amount and packaging. My first thought when you showed the bag of mystery produce, was maybe ginger, but the other pieces didn’t seem right for ginger, so I’m curious as to what they are.
    You just now said they are yams. Do they taste the same as sweet potatoes?
    Suzzie, I have difficulty with getting my groceries into the house too. What I do is just carry things - boxes or bags or whatever to the edge of the porch and leave them there while I make more trips to and from our pickup. Then I only have to go up my ramp once, without having to carry heavy things. Then I can just move them into the house from there. But I think your porch has a railing. If it does, I guess that wouldn’t work for you.
    Until next time, have a good weekend, and try to take it easy, if you can.

    • @justcallmesuzzie
      @justcallmesuzzie  2 місяці тому +1

      That is a great way to get the groceries in. That does not work for me so I use reusable grocery bags and put them on my shoulder to get up the steps. Sometimes we do get a lot of the same things. Nation wide food distribution because sometimes it is even the same brand.

      YES!!! That's what they are!!! I thought they were a Spanish root from my cashiering days. I also ate some at my Spanish friend's house. Yummy. The ones I've seen were much bigger/fatter though. The skin on them gives it away.

    • @justcallmesuzzie
      @justcallmesuzzie  Місяць тому +1

      My goal is to break the stigma of going to food banks. I want people to know that if they feel the pinch in the economy and are on retirement, it is ok to go to the food banks. I live in hurricane alley and being prepared to not be able to go places for weeks and even months is essential in my area. I prefer to prepare rather than be stranded with no essentials.
