“A Lord of men must be the friend of trees.”
Oh so very true.
I'm a simple man. I see heavy weights, I lift them. I see a funny animal, I laugh. I hear an older gentleman telling Arthurian poems over a pipe, I listen.
Listen to this, stop posting stupid shit online.
Same Here brother 💪🏾
And here too. Love his voice.
HERE HEAR
Yes, this is all we need.
King Arthur really needs to return to England, take up Excalibur, and clean up the house, as it were.
We are yet desperate enough. It is the legend.
He was a Romano Briton. Welsh. His mortal enemy were the Anglo-Saxons. The English. His return will regain the 'Lost Lands'.

No he wasn't 🙄
@@BillSikes. Yes he was.

“Be patient, little Acorn, and be still,
Your strength is only in your Maker’s will.
Low ground is the only place to be,
If you would root, and grow, and stand like me
The showy leaf will soon be torn away
But lowly roots are strong to stand and stay
Let men and women learn from the oak trees
And not be blown away by every breeze
Young Arthur, I foresee a time at length
When you will need an oak tree’s rooted strength
Then I will stand within you strong and sure
That you may stand and withstand and endure…”
This man is a treasure.
Merlin definitely feels like a proto-Gandalf. Tolkien knew what he was doing when he started penning the appearance of a certain wizard during the first few chapters of The Hobbit!
Great writing, Malcolm. My favorite line from Merlin, "...this meal makes us companions now who share the broken bread...".
That one stuck out to me as well!!
"I'm not a digital native, only paper seems real to me." as a traditional sketch artist you have no idea how much I resonate with this quote. :)
as a so called digital native, ive certainly found more classical tools to be more effective at their jobs.
at 26 i have a bit of a fountain pen addiction coupled with a typewriter somewhere.
Things like this narrative and our history and culture are priceless. A tapestry of myth and magic. This is what is under threat in these dark, satanic days.
Thank you Malcolm of splendid tales, pipe smoke and ales.
My kingdom for a pint of Old Peculier!
Thank you, this was fantastic ❤
I’m in a guest house in Norfolk having a Guinness watching this. What more could you want 😊
I love the nod to Gandalf in Merlin’s description.
Gandalf was/is originally an ancient dwarf of from old norse sagas
This preview reading of your Arthurian tale was just wonderful. I can’t wait to read the full volume!
Really love the descriptions of ancient English woods.
Another charming story, warm cozy and enchanting, much like the comfort of the pipe. Magical.📚🍺📚
these are the stories young children love, sadly almost a dead art. sure cheered my day.
These videos are soul soothing.
That was captivating! I've just stumbled upon your channel by chance, and I'm so thankful I did.
"...Annihilating all that's made,
Into a green thought in a green shade.."
"Sky speaks to tree. Tree speaks to stone. Stone speaks to water." I'm sure I have that at least slightly wrong, but it's what this put me in mind of.
God do Blessing to his children, and we are surely blessed with Your wisdom and Knowledge Mister Guite and with you as Person and Mentor in York weekly viedeos one you Tube thanks for that may be god with you. I can‘ t wait for the next Episode and i Like your
Books very much.
Im sorry Automatik lecture , Not York „ your“ your weekly Videos one you tube😅
Im so glad to hear our ancient legends being told again in such a delightful manner. The way things rhyme almost remind me of the old norfolk poems my grandad used to read to us.
That was the most beautiful thing to hit my hearts in a very long time
Such Magical and Masterful writing. I look forward to more!!!
That was lovely! I was there, in the sacred grove, in spirit.
What the Oak said to the boy Arthur was very moving to me. I desire that kind of rootedness and resilience, "...to stand, withstand, and endure." And the dappled light imagery under the tree leaves is beautiful. Thank you for breathing new life into these stories. I can't wait to read the published materials!
It's quite a lovely spot you have. Thank you for letting us hang out.
Wow that was amazing.
Thank you Malcolm, busy work day with all that is not important. With pipe lit your passage allowed me to drift and switch of, if even for 10 minutes it was the antidote O needed.
I felt as if I was there with them and all of nature. Thank you, Malcolm for the respite. Cheers.
“I felt as if I was there”. It’s so life affirming when that happens ❤️
Lewis would be impressed ❤

So beautiful! Thank you for reading it to us.
This was wonderful ❤
Oh, huzzah! Utterly delightful, Malcolm. Thank you so for sharing. While I look forward with great anticipation to future publication, I am so enjoying these little glimpses into your Matter. I feel somehow part of something singular and its creation. So special. Cheers and carry on!
Thankyou for sharing this progress, fabulous to hear the story evolve.
Always a pleasure, thank you for sharing.
I've lately grown to deeply appreciate the old ways of portraying "wizards" and "magicians". Years ago I'd believed that these archetypes were simply authors projecting their desires for otherworldly powers into writing, but now after much more reading on true wizardry and magic throughout our history (and especially throughout English history), I've come upon the realization that magicians and their magic are just as real as warriors with their swords or kings with their kingdoms.
That being said, I'm very grateful for being able to hear such a warm reading of such a powerful text, laying out in plain English the true workings of magic for all to see and read and study. I'd like to think that Arthur didn't need Merlin to show him what being an oak tree felt like, he needed Merlin to show him what he already knew it felt like. As Jung might refer to it, bringing the unconscious into the conscious mind, the true job of a magician.
I cannot wait for these to be published so I can read them to my children.
My dad and I just started to watch the new Lord of The Rings season. Instantly it reminded me of you, Mr Malcolm Guite! I had to show him your UA-cam channel and your poems/writings.
This channel brings me peace, love it and thank you
‘I’m not a digital native, only paper feels real to me’ - I’m using this line when my wife complains about me buying another book
I can't wait for the whole thing! Thank you Dr. Guite! God Bless you always!
What a treat, thank you Malcolm!
I’m so looking forward to the finished work! This excerpt was wonderful.
That was beautiful. Well done, good sir.
Immensely enjoyable; thank you.
Wonderful! Many thanks for sharing it.
Loved this poem, Thanks Malcolm. Can't wait to hear more.
You have such a gift for prosody and understanding of how to use the musicality of verse. Such a beautiful flow to the words without ever feeling like the narrative is contrived for the sake of it.
I cannot wait to read the final version.
Malcolm, such beautiful writing! Thank you for sharing…I’m hooked🤓
👏👏
♥️
I really enjoyed it. Thank you.
Theakstons Old P is one of my favourite ales.
This sapling enjoyed gleaning from your wisdom, old oak. Thank you, friend.
This was just wonderful, Malcolm. I felt like I was with Arthur roaming Ector's lands. The release of these books can't come fast enough! I look forward to reading them to my two young children and feeding their hearts and imaginations on these stories.
the cadence and unfolding steps, the sense of exploration flows along nicely - old enough to respect Arthurian vintage and fast enough for the modern reader - if the elves end up in your continuance of the legend as tutors then this allows Arthur that greater vision he is known for even more so - giving him the glory of the Tuatha de Danaan and that extra mystique which - well - makes him so able to sway men...I am reminded of "Dear and Glorious Physician" I think by Taylor Caldwell on St. Luke---well there is a passage where during Luke's education as a young man he learns from a visiting Chinese tutor - the whole idea expands Luke to a sort of friend of other cultures - as a real physician would have to be - this idea of the main figure encountering the teacher from far away is ever effective as a wake up call...and here again it is with Merlin...
beautiful, thank you for uploading this gem of a video. The journal at the beginning of the video is the one I have too and wrote my first draft of the book im writing as well :) You're a golden Spirit Malcolm 🙏 also I would like to add when people would gather in the olden days under the oak tree and tell stories it was called a matlock
Lovely! Thanks!
There is something wonderful about a decent note book with thick paper full of creative writing written with a fountain pen in swirly script.
Truly a wonderful poem and reading. Take care.
NOW I'm looking forward to reading your Arthurian work. It's a particular challenge to depart from the high point of great deeds and return to humble antecedents, weaving them in as compelling a read as the better-known bits -- forgive my doubts as you departed -- but I now see you've got it well in hand, beguiling from beginning to end.
Cheers from Alabama! Thank you for sharing this greatness with us, it’s always a delight to see a new video from you!
At my childhood home in Bulawayo, we had for many years, a tall Cape Oak tree. It was, on reflection, one of my best friends. I had a swing supported from a branch and a thick, many knotted, rope hung from another. Plenty of fun and good exercise too. It never complained. Into my teens I made a pipe from a section cut from a thinner branch and would smoke the Dutch “Amphora” mixtures that we could still buy in Rhodesia. The Oak is no longer there, sadly. I never sold the house. Maybe my pipe is still there … I’ll send someone to see.
Wonderful thank you
Brilliant! Malcolm is a creative genius and keeper of some deep mysteries of man.
Thank you so much Malcolm - such a rich and layered description of our connection to the wild world web. AND the promise of adventures in 'both realms' yay And thank you !
Wonderful work, Malcolm. The description of understanding the nature of nature via the tree and Merlin’s special sight really resonated here. Thank you for sharing with us.
Always stimulating and brilliant! Thank you for your channel! Always inspired and refreshing!!!
The tree is fundamental to mythological history.
It is the tree of knowledge in Eden. The tree in which Jason's golden fleece was hung guarded by the sepent. The tree of Odin. It is Yggdrasil.
It is the pictured metaphor that connects the worlds that we live between.
Thank you, Malcolm. Delighted at how your Arthurian epic is turning out. Just had my 50th birthday and received the 2 volumes of Malory’s “M’orte…”. I’ve never read it through. Lewis, Tolkien, and yourself have inspired me to give it a go. Cheers and happy puffing (and writing!)
I was completely entranced listening to you recite your work. I'm very excited to read it all!
Wow thank you for the walk into the woods. I love your poetic descriptions. And the mighty oak tree is my friend too.
Beautiful... thank you Malcolm.
Nothing goes better with a book than a pipe of MyMixture 965, Strepsils, Pint of Guiness along with a chaser of Cepacol. Hope your throat is on the mend Sir ❤️🩹
I found myself decidedly distracted by the distractions upon distractions of your delightfully rich domicile. 🙏🏼
It has certainly been a pleasure sitting in your class, professor. You have much to share and impart, and I am ready to absorb your knowledge. As an undergraduate, I formerly smoked Prince Albert when sharing fellowship with fellow chess players. Now, I only smoke hemp flowers in a water pipe. Of course, the effects are quite different from tobacco. There is some incapacitation; but like alcohol, there is a time and place, a suitable set and setting. Just smoke some hemp, perhaps with a beverage of your choice. Then listen to Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion. There you are, your entire being becomes one with the music. It is beyond description! I am writing to you from the city named for Charles II., The son of the martyred king, Charles I. His portrait is honored here in the Church of the Holy Communion.
Really, really nice.
What a gem! This is splendid work. Really looking forward to the release of the book
delightful!
That was awesome ! I was totally sucked in to the world of arthur for a bit
Wonderful and enriching. I’ve had a fill of a spiritual meal!
Fantastic!
This is wonderful! Truly a musical poem.
Bravo!
This is splendid and deep poetry, my Father left me a copy The Idylls of the King which I think is a second edition, I shall cherish your book as I do the Tennyson.
I really enjoy your reading and the wonderful pictures you create with the words! Thank you for sharing with us.
Beautiful poetry. Thanks. So smooth and simple, so colourful and evocative. Great power. Cheers. I'm going to try out that Old Theakston this week. Maybe it will inspire my own writing. Hehehehe
Thank you. I enjoyed that. It's always a pleasure to listen to you.
Very interesting looking books and nice stories. Very great content!!!!
I enjoyed that very much, thank you for sharing ❤
Very lovely. Cheers
Looking good!
Very nice.
Oh Malcom such a delight! I am anxious to hear more. Would you consider doing an audio book version, with you as reader! Naturally I would want a lovely bound volume with marble end papers and guilt imprinted covers. Yet, to have read it, by you, is just such a joy. Headed out sailing tomorrow in one of the Caledonian Yawls built for the film of Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I will toast you at our lunch upon the beach! Cheers.
as always, Fr Malcolm.
I love it kind sir! Wonderful!
I want his lifestyle when I’m old lol
a very intresting take on a gap in the story... my take on it is similar but not quite so mythical or as poetic as yours... but imaginative all the same.
thank you kind Malcolm for your words and i always take comfort from them .
Thank you for sharing that with us. I really enjoyed listening to it.
This man reminds me of my father; the passionate erudite who loved the quietly subtle, yet moving power, of the art of expression.
I’ve known only two.
I miss my father.
