Congratulations (on both your ride and your engagement!). I made the same trip earlier this summer, from California to Tuktoyaktuk. Like you, I was questioning whether I could handle that last leg, but am very happy I did it. We encountered rain, on the return from Tuk (I got thrown off, trying to ride up the muddy hill from the MacKenzie ferry) and on the Dempster, which is nerve wracking and therefore tiring, but also an “adventure” in retrospect. I’m looking forward to more videos in your series!
It was made even more interesting when I discovered a rock had broken the side stand safety switch, making the bike inoperative. We had to hot wire the contacts together. It’s a good idea to look at how those switches are set up on your bikes (some can be turned off under the seat) and whether Alt Rider or anyone else makes protective covers for them, as they do for the BMW GS models. Of course you’re usually not getting pelted by rocks 😉
Hello Léa et Quentin, votre projet à deux est absolument génial ! Au départ, je regardais cela d'abord avec l'œil du motard. D'ailleurs le choix des Himalayans est plutôt smart! Une mécanique simple, pas trop lourde et facile a entretenir et réparer. Un petit conseil. Il faut au moins que vous ayez 2 chambres à air pour l'avant et 2 pour l'arrière chacun.e. et au prochain arrêt, achetez une bombe anti- crevaison à utiliser en cas d'extrême urgence. Autrement, c'est magnifique! Les photos sur insta sont très belles! Je me déclare Fan ! J'attends les autres vidéos avec impatience. Le style reportage et commentaire en retour d'expérience avec images commentées c'est une bonne idée ! Good ride!

Glad you made it up and back - and had good weather! To anyone thinking about this ride, it cannot be overstated enough the difference in dry vs wet. My Dempster ride several years ago was 100% wet up and back, and also involved a flat tire and a crash. It was not fun at all. The days before our window (mid July) were also wet and bad for 2 wheels, as were the days after. Good notes on preparation provided, but again it is a completely different ride dry vs wet. And you'll never get all the mud off your bike and gear... ever. Epic ride for you both - enjoy the journey.
I was in Dust to Dawson on the 21st, so I started the Dempster a couple days after. Our paths probably crossed! And yes, I stayed a night at the motorcycle campsite in Whitehorse and met some nice people there!

AWESOME! One day I will take the same road. I seriously think I should get tubless tires. I wonder why only one bike got trouble, perhaps his bike was carrying more weight than yours? Everyone tells me to be wary of mosquitoes how did you fare? Is there some repellent that works? Congratulations amazing tale!
I don't know for the tubeless tires. I feel like it's harder to damage, yes, but also harder to fix if something happens. And for his tire, I really think it's a question of luck. The stones are sharps, you just need one misplaced to puncture a tire... it happens all the time on the Dempster.
@@leanarre on the contrary tubeless tires are much easier to fix, you use some “bacon strips” and glue and you don’t have to take the rim down, supposedly it’s an emergency fix but i’ve heard of guys running their bikes for hundreds of miles with that fix. Also decompression is not suddenly exploding tires so it’s safer. What brand of tires are you using? I want to try shinkos or heidenaus. I am going to follow your trip with great interest! I had the same feedback from other travelers who did it in the rain. They said that was feeling even more like an adventure!

When were you on the dempster? I was in Tuk on June 21st. Did you stay at the Yukon Motorcycle Park outside of Whitehorse?
