In this BARGAD interview, watch The Lallantop Editor-In-Chief Saurabh Dwivedi talk to veteran actor Vineet Kumar of Vikramarkudu, Kachche Dhaage, Masaan and Shool fame. He's also done films such as Aks (2001), Thakshak (1999), Drohkaal (1994), Sanshodhan (1996) and TV serials like - Shikast (1994), Swabhimaan (1995-97), Sea Hawks, Hum Bambai Nahi Jayenge, Lapataganj (2010), Chidiya Ghar (2012), Maha Kumbh (2014) and much more. Vineet Kumar loves theatre the most but he also works in Bollywood, Telugu and South movie industries regularly. Very rarely have we seen him give interviews and this is clearly the rarest.
Here amazing actor Vineet Kumar talks in detail about his childhood in Patna, Bihar; about his father Saheb Lal Srivastava, mother Prabha and elder brother Sunit Kumar (IPS); discipline and importance of time in his life; inspiring and unique story of Hindu-Muslim love and co-existence featuring him, his Muslim friend and his mother; his memories of 1962 Indo-China War and 1971 Pakistan War; his teenage days and attraction towards girls in college; story behind how he joined theatre in his life; doing first play Tughlaq; how he improved his speech in theatre acting; how he joined JP Movement at the time of India Gandhi's emergency; listening to the epic poem Rashmirathi from the Hindi poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar himself; memories of Baba Nagarjuna and writer Phanishwar Nath Renu; one thought by Karl Marx that he never forgets; how Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) held a GVM to send Vineet to learn acting from National School of Drama (NSD); his friends and experiences at NSD; an anecdote when he said no to director Richard Attenborough's role offer for his film Gandhi (1982); working on the set of Gandhi as casting help; watching and learning from Ben Kingsley's acting in the Champaran scene of the Gandhi Movie; his shyness in doing intimate and romantic scenes in movies; an anecdote from the shoot of Govind Nihalani's Drohkaal where he had to do intimate bed scene with Kitu Gidwani and he couldn't do it until Kitu helped him out; how he signed SS Rajamauli's Telugu blockbuster hit movie Vikramarkudu; when he had a chat with director Ram Gopal Varma on the set of Daud movie about different kinds of directors.
In the interview Vineet Kumar talks about his earlier days in Mumbai as a struggling actor when Manoj Bajpayee was his roommate; how he started working on the set of Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s TV serial Chanakya; how an actress thanked him after a rape scene in Kachche Daage; preparation for his role in Hindi Masaan where he plays Dom Raja who burns funeral pyres on the cremation ghats of Varanasi; the Masaan prep is a good learning for aspirant actors, they must watch this part; working in Bhopal A Prayer for Rain and learning a thing or two from Oscar winning actor Martin Sheen; working in Return to Rajapur with Manoj Bajpayee and Justin Theroux; his unique observation of Mahabharata and Ramayana; why he says he's a leftist, a comrade yet he a lover of Lord Shiva; his experience of doing Inspector Tiwari's role in 1999 film Shool by director Eeshwar Niwas and an anecdote with Manoj Bajpayee and Anurag Kashyap; why comrades got angry with film Shool’s plot; an anecdote from the sets of Kachche Dhaage with Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan. That's not all, he also shares the story about how he met his wife Manoranjan Dhaliwal for the first time and how actor friend Navneet Nishan played a very big role in their marriage.

Although Vineet and Govind Namdev both were in Kachche Dhaage, BUT in that film Vineet's character was much quieter and didn't have many dialogues off of each others.
I want to see both of them in some heavy character driven roles, where they both would try to best each other. It would be so great to see that.
