I remember this song back in 1999. My father was listening to it and watching the music video and he was laughing because he understood the lyrics. Now that I'm older, I understand too. Rest in peace Dad. I miss you.
Was listening to a local radio stations and it was amazing songs that fell of the face of the earth, and this was one of them. I'm 14 and I'm in love with this song now. It's perfect.
Thanks to a friend of mine, I found this song after looking for YEARS! I have never been so happy to find a song that I loved listening to so very much. I will never stop loving it. It is the first song I remember listening to.
How good is this song, so many great lines you've got to love it! Lifted from "You Only Live Twice", sung by Nancy Sinatra in the James Bond movie of same name
*** LYRICS *** You only live twice or so it seems One life for yourself and one for your dreams You drift through the years and life seems tame Till one dream appears and love is its name And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone This dream is for you, so pay the price Make one dream come true, you only live twice And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone This dream is for you, so pay the price Make one dream come true, you only live twice
I was assuming those intro strings were borrowed from a classical song!? I did some research & they give writing credit to Leslie Bricusse & John Barry on the CD. Wikipedia:" it is a re-recording in a slightly different key instead of a direct sample for reasons of cost"
The late 90s. A different universe. 9/11 happens, high speed internet, smart phones, facebook, twitter... Spiritually, the "millennium" is not off to a great start.
@@nvrmnd405 i think they were saying in the context of THEY had no internet, THEY were doing safe drugs, and THEY're dad hadn't walked out (or died) yet😂
I sometimes have Magic radio on during the night and I work up to the sound of this song the Sunday morning just gone. It was a nice gentle nudge to wake me up
One of those songs that went over the heads of ninety percent of the people who heard it. Lucky them. For those of us who got it, it's a knife that went in deep and gives another twist every time we listen to it. Being right doesn't always mean you can do anything about what's wrong.
The background music of this song (the strings) is from Nancy Sinatra's song "You Only Live Twice", from the James Bond movie of the same name. That song is "groovy", as well.
I can't believe how long it's been, since I heard this song at least 15 years, it's good that Robbie Williams had a brief career after Take That broke up.
Jeff King in recent years his biggest hit was Candy which went to number 1 and he's had a few albums that got to number 1 also, he's not as active as he was in the early 2000's, he used to release a new album every year but now it's every 2/3 years, he's busy with his family now
Uh now I remember where he sampled that string part, it’s that Nancy Sinatra Song from “You only live twice”... I thought it sounded familiar. It only took 20 years 🤦♂️
Silly song, but so great. I loved it so much when it came out. I remember wandering around a high-end appliance emporium and zoning out in this, wondering how I'd ever hear this song again.

@justine Mantac How do you know?
If I was born in 1999, on my birthday in 2999, I would be 1,000 years old if I never died
I dont think that we can see that year 😂

Some one may be. But it won’t be me.
Aww man, this makes me nostalgic. I was in 8th grade when this was on the radio.

Back in the day I remember paying $23 for the CD just to get this song. It’s magic!
How good is this song, so many great lines you've got to love it!
Lifted from "You Only Live Twice", sung by Nancy Sinatra in the James Bond movie of same name
I heard "you only live twice" in the TV show Mad Men and it reminded me of this song. Both great tunes.
*** LYRICS ***
You only live twice or so it seems
One life for yourself and one for your dreams
You drift through the years and life seems tame
Till one dream appears and love is its name
And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on
Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone

Make one dream come true, you only live twice
And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on
Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone
This dream is for you, so pay the price
Make one dream come true, you only live twice
Can we stop for a moment and consider the amazing quality of lyrics?
Absolutely!! He was spot on when he made this song. It was like a warning for what is taking place today.. uncanny!!
Excellent! Well spoken 👍

Robert Thomas Of course it was off to a bad start. Limp Bizkit replaced Oasis.
Robert Thomas "The late 90's" WTF 9/11 was September 11 2001 😮😒
wow...
Take me back to 99
No internet
Safe drugs
No 9/11
An my dad was here too
safe drugs like crack?
😎No coronavirus 😭Kobe Bryant was still around
In 99 there was the internet for the people that wanted the internet and not just buy a phone.
If I wasn't supposed to laugh at the last part, my bad, but it was hilarious

So. Good. I have forgotten how much I LOVE this song!
'cause we know we're falling from grace...Millennium. How true.
Was 15 when this treasured gem came out !
Almost 20years ago.. Nice memories of my postgraduate studies in Manchester...
I sometimes have Magic radio on during the night and I work up to the sound of this song the Sunday morning just gone. It was a nice gentle nudge to wake me up
Love this song. The fact Robbie himself said his music video for this song was a homage to James Bond made it even cooler.
this song just played on my radio and i started dancing and its rare for me to dance to a song i just found.
We all enjoy the madness cause we know we're gonna fade away. Never underestimate the power of those words! Happy New Year everyone. 💜🎆🎊🎉🍸
I've been looking for this song for a very long, long, long, long time,.couldn't remember the singer and the song, lol. Thanks.

I can't believe how long it's been, since I heard this song at least 15 years, it's good that Robbie Williams had a brief career after Take That broke up.
+Jeff King he's had a hugely successful career and he continues
+JasonBorn89
I haven't even heard his name mentioned on the radio since the turn on the century. What was his last hit?
Jeff King in recent years his biggest hit was Candy which went to number 1 and he's had a few albums that got to number 1 also, he's not as active as he was in the early 2000's, he used to release a new album every year but now it's every 2/3 years, he's busy with his family now

Are his hits in the US or the UK?
Jeff King he never broke america
I want to go back to 99, the better years. :(

The jack in the box at my home always plays this song, again and again, like they have only 3 or 4 songs to play lol.
pretty apt song for this generation
I always thought it was "Tic-Tacs for your breath" not "Detax for your 'rents" LOL
This would be a good song to sample
