I’ve had a lot of bad experiences with travel guitars, mostly involving intonation problems and sloppy workmanship. This time around, I bought a Little Martin LX1RE and I had a PROPER setup done. I can’t overstate the importance of a setup. I had the shop install new high-quality tuners as well as a new nut, saddle, and bridge pins and a new set of strings. They also adjusted the action/neck relief and dressed the frets. Now it plays and feels great. It will never replace a $2,000 guitar but that’s okay. I actually enjoy playing it! It’s a great little guitar. One final suggestion. There is an actual Martin hardshell case that is made for the LX1 series. If you plan on traveling with yours, invest in a hardshell case. Don’t get on a plane or train with a gig bag. Okay, that’s it. Make music and have fun!
Oh man.. just another reason why I am amazed by your talent Jonathan. I am just blown away by your style... Thank you for sharing your talent!! God Bless
Well that was a shock ! You get so used to clicking on review videos to hear the player just showing off, so it was a nice surprise to hear this lovely tune. That sounded really nice (the composition) thank you Friend. 👍🙂
Happy New Year Jonathan. Thanks for all the reviews this year my friend. Every one of them is class from start to finish. I just love seeing your love for life and music. There's lots of us looking forward to seeing what you bring us in 2022. Stay healthy mate!
Excellent instrument for us players with small hands/fingers. Fairly comfortable (1-11/16") fingerboard and neck, 14 frets to the body. Decent intonation. No beauty, but construction is bulletproof.
Just took up the guitar at the tender age of 58 and have just taken delivery of the Ed Sheeran Divide ... it is beautiful ... if only I could play it a teeny weeny bit like you ... right ... off to practice!! 😊
Great playing to showcase to beautiful tones of the Little Martin. The first song you played is very similar to “Forevermore” by the Filipino band, Side A.
That first song I would have guessed Chet had I not know differently....something of Sails I would have guessed......your playing is probably the best I have ever heard, at least among the Ytubers......could listen all day.....thanks, man!
Beautiful sound; great size. I mucked around with a dreadnought in my twenties & am thinking of playing again now, but the dreadnought was way too difficult to play easily for me. This guitar might be the answer.
Over many years, I had many guitars and never really stuck with it, until I abandoned giant instruments and started playing handy small-body guitars like the LX1.
I had an Lx1 little martin back in 2007....great little guitar that one was all laminate, amazing player I usualoy play 000 martins b6t i was very impressed so recently bought a spurce top one Lx1AE...with fishman....ok. .. but not really happy with it and put it into my local martin dealer last week to try and get it playing right. ED sheeran plays same size martin so yes you can gig with it...even if you definitely wont get paid as much as he gets...😁
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Jonathan. I listened to you and just bought a LX1RE. I'm a 60 year old beginner though. I'll have to continue practice in my grave to ever get even half as good as you are of course. I hope you think I am not too silly and that it's never too late to start. You're an inspiration. Thank you
Great production values here! You made that little guitar sound very big indeed, Jon. Very enjoyable compositions, as well - have you ever considered going into the music business? LOL 😉😊👍👍👍
I should have said that when I bought my LMX1 I tried several others after all initially this was going to be my travel guitar ..(.even one night in a hotel room is too long without a guitarwithin reach )...at that time there was limited options but the most notable was a taylor, and nice as it was your word expressed my first imoression because compared to tge full rich sound of the Martin I felt it sounded thin....interestingly my latest LX1AE doesnt have the richness of the first despite a spruce top over the previous laminate....I'm so hoping the luthier can remedy that because although I still have the original one the top warped and lifted the bridge and whilst after some glue it plays but structually it has suffered soundwise...as the action is higher I now use it mainly with slide
I'm thinking to purchase a 3/4 guitar and was deciding between Baby Taylor and Little Martin LX1RE (even after trying it at the shop). But this kind of solidified my opinion on the Martin. The sound feels richer and better resonated than the Taylor IMO. Not to mention these tunes are so pretty ;w; thank you!
I’m looking into travel size or 3/4 guitar. I have played GS mini and Taylor Big baby. But I am curious how Martin’s travel guitars are compare to Taylor’s. I know there are many videos out there comparing the two. But your style of playing similar to my playing the most. I’m wondering if you can share your opinions about comparing Martin’s small guitars that you have with Taylor’s ones and/or other small guitars?
Great video! But be careful when putting the price on it, because here in Europe costs about 599€ or more!(In fact it's the double, so it makes me doubt if it's worth a that price...)
How many different cords can you use for thumb with? Your looking like Jimmy Hendricks and Keith Richards when you do that. I just ordered one of these three other day. If I can only play a fraction as good as you I'll be happy. Thanks for the demo.
Hi Jonathan, thanks for the review. I am from Europe/Slovakia. Could you please let me know where I could order this model for 338€ + shipping? Many thanks, with kind regards,Peter.
is this a new version of lx series from Martin. Could you compare it to the LX1? I found this more bass and better sound. But what do you think between the two? which one do you prefer and why? thks
Would you say this is worth it for someone who’s really a beginner, but wants a nice guitar I can plug into my new katana 100, I already have a Yamaha fg800m, sound wise how does this compare?
Hey Jonathan, Just moved to Singapore and thinking of buying a Guitar over here. Wanted to get the LX1E Because of Ed Sheeran, but City Music also recommended the Dreadnought Junior. Which would you recommend? My budget is around 650 SGD, So it's right on the sale price right now. Or at this price range would you recommend a full size guitar? I'm not looking for only a Travel guitar, Just thought of the LX1E Because of Ed (huge fan) and working from there. Although Since I'm an expat here keeping it travel sized might be better, but not a big deal if I'm getting a better deal with a bigger sized guitar
@@JonIsJustTooLoud I did Actually, But I don't think I'm a good enough to figure out what is "better" sound. Including whether to go for those or buy a bigger guitar haha!
It doesn't seem like these little guitars have a truss rod like a normal Martin, but they actually do. For some reason it is deeply recessed in the cavity so the standard 5mm allen keys that work for pretty much every other acoustic will not reach it. Search ebay or Amazon for a long 5mm hex as you can get them for a couple bucks. If a proper truss adjustment doesn't fix the buzz I'd use a straight edge to see if any of the upper frets are either not seated properly or need polished/filed. Definitely make sure the neck is straight and not upwardly warped at the heel on up. Meaning if you bought the guitar recently and a truss adjustment &/or saddle height being too low is not the culprit, I'd just return it especially if the neck/fretboard are warped. You'd end up paying more for a proper neck resetting than you paid for the guitar
Being an armchair player with small hands: If I could find a higher-end instrument of this size/type, I'd buy it. Meanwhile, the inexpensive LX1 is the guitar I pick up day in and day out.
Great playing what is the action on this version like as I know the Ed sheeran version has a rather high action was just wondering if this is lower around 12th fret then the Ed sheeran and previous lx1 keep up the good work Jonathan
I've played on the ed sheeran model..the action is not really high. The guitar was probably not well setup. The action on this guitar , if I recalled correctly, was quite ok✌🤓
Warm and peaceful video with beautiful liquid sound! Thank you for the review Jonathan, I enjoyed!

So you buy a guitar 500$ and still you have to change everything out of the box ? Doesn't seems like a good deal ...
As a newbie, what do you mean by proper setup? I heard to bring your new guitar in so they can adjust something inside?
What happened to your 2000 dollar guitar? sorry to hear you had to replace it.
@@abraxas511 i think that he just wanted to say that in comparison to a $2k guitar, it will not be better

Is there any difference between the tones of lx1e and lx1re?
