i read the entire assassin's apprentice series. i enjoyed them quite a bit. the thing about this series is that it starts when he is a child and ends when he is a much older man. it takes patience.
Oh my god Sara shut upppp GUYS!!!!!! SKIP Sara’s summary of Piranesi (literally go into the book without knowing anything about it or hearing it from other people 😎)
I had to DNF Assassin's Apprentice because I was so bored. I got half way through and felt like nothing happened so I gave up lol. I read Piranessi for my book club and we all enjoyed it as well.
I've watched ellias talk about Assasin's apprentice a million times, and I always thought it was the "captive prince" book, and your video just made me realize that those are two different books 💀
I'd recommend starting with the liveship traders to really get invested. Assassin's Apprentice was a slog but seriously worth it. & its all badass women in the Liveship Traders.
Omg I’m so happy for you that you got Taylor Swift tickets! That’s such a flex. Please let me know how it goes and how amazing it is. I want to live vicariously through you
@@sarawithoutanH OMG PLEASE DO! I’m so jealous but at the same time so unbelievably happy for you. What an absolute EXPERIENCE you’re going to have. Everyone says it’s life altering
Would you recommend reading ACOTAR before CC? I have 0 interest in ACOTAR and just want to keep going with CC2. Do you think I can understand the ending of CC2 without knowing anything about ACOTAR? If I like CC2 I probably would try and drag myself through ACOTAR to prepare for CC3, but I don't really want to read the ACOTAR before CC2 because I don't really expect to love it and so I don't really feel like putting effort into it by reading a whole ass series just to understand the ending of CC2?
I found Assassin’s Apprentice kind of boring as well, but the way people talk about the rest of the series makes me want to give it another chance, or at least continue on in the series. I’ve read the Liveship Traders series by her and loved them (has more interesting female characters!), so I know it’s possible for me to love her books. I’m so glad you enjoyed Piranesi! I absolutely love that book, the world was beautiful and the writing was flawless, it was so good. I’m not usually a fan or weird/magical realism books either, but that one was amazing.
Susanna Clarke only has the one other novel and, based on what you said about Assassin’s Apprentice, I’m not sure you’d like it. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is a door-stopper about the return of magic to Regency England - very slow, very character focused, written in a very old fashioned, stilted style with loads of asides that add to the world without pushing the plot forward. Imho one of the best books ever written, but not for everyone.
Caricanread has amazing plot summary videos for the ACOTAR series if you want to know what happens without reading the books (I didn't want to read them either and I was so annoyed by the end of House of Sky and Breath for the same reason)
I've always kind of has a gist of what happened in the first two but I don't really know what happened I ACOWAR.. like who is this war even with? So I probably should watch her video on that 😂
🌊 I read assassins apprentice last year and I agree with everything you’re saying. However, I have thought about that book so much since I finished it, I want to continue the series lol
Concerning your spoilers for CC... 👀 That's a bummer for me as well, but in the opposite way lol. Because I really enjoyed ACOMAF and ACOWAR, but based on the summaries of CC I have no desire to read them. So now, I'm worried that if I don't read CC I will lose context for future ACOTAR books. I wish Maas would've just kept the series separate overall - give people different stories to enjoy.
Actually Sarah J Maas said that she is writing crescent city in a way it can be read alone, it’s definitely more fun knowing the acotar world but I don’t it’ll be too bad if you don’t read acotar 🤷🏻♀️
Uhh thanks for commenting that! I keep hearing that you need to read ACOTAR to get CC, but CC is the only series of hers I'm interested in, so I was thinking super long about whether or not to even attempt to read CC2....nice to know the author herself said CC can be read on its own!
@sarawithoutanH I think so! It's really well done although I wouldn't describe it as fast paced, tbh. It's actually pretty character focused but they are super intriguing and you get so invested in them! And it's gotta a super BA FMC!
ooooh, you’re only the 2nd person I’ve seen not like the farseer books. Cara from wildebookgarden is also really critical of them and I love hearing her rip them to shreds 😂
So I haven't read the ACOTAR or TOG series yet. They just didn't sound interesting to me. I loved Crescent City 1 and wanna keep going with CC2. But I'm nervous: can I understand what's going on in the crossover section without having a damn clue about ACOTAR? Or do I need to read ACOTAR before CC2? Because CC2 has gotten so many mixed reviews I don't have super high hopes of loving it and wanting to continue with the series, so I really don't want to read the whole of ACOTAR just to be able to understand a book which I expect not to like anyways. I'd love to read CC2 first and if I enjoy it enough to want to keep going then go on an read the ACOTAR series to prepare myself for CC3. But if you think I absolutely need to know about ACOTAR to understand CC2 I'll probably just give up on the CC series right now
I'm pretty certain that Susanna Clarke's only other book is Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, which is nothing like Piranesi. So maybe you won't like it. Admittedly it's been a really, really long time since I read Jonathan Strange, so I couldn't really tell you what it's about beyond the very basic premise of it's about magic 🤔🤷♀️
Spoiler warning: I felt the exact same way about Sky & breath 😭 I read ACOTAR forever ago and did really like the first two and hated mist and fury. I was so pleasantly surprised to adore the first cresent city but was enjoying sky & breath until the pacing started dragging and HATEEEED the twist. I just wanted this to be it's own series and to fall back into her old world made me so mad. I will read the next book but I'm not excited about it 🌊 :(
Spoiler for House of Sky and Breath: Having not read other Sarah J Maas, I was not aware the ending of Sky and Breath actually referenced ACOTAR. 😬 I’m not sure how I feel any a crossover experience.
Finally a person in the same boat: I haven't read any other SJM, just CC1 and loved it and so I want to read CC2. Problem is: I have heard about the crossover thing and now I am questioning whether or not to read ACOTAR first. Did you understand the ending of CC2 or was it super confusing without having knowledge about ACOTAR? And do you want to continue with the series and if so, do you plan on reading ACOTAR in order to prepare yourself for CC3 or not? Because CC2 has so many mixed reviews I don't have super high expectations for it and kinda assume I won't love it and might not want to continue the series. So I don't feel like dragging myself through a whole other book series I'm not interested in just to understand the ending of a book I don't expect to love anyways. That's just too much effort. My plan is to read CC2 and it I want to keep going probably try and read ACOTAR to get a better grip on the other world. Unless of course I absolutely need to read ACOTAR before CC2
I clicked the unsubscribe button for the assassins apprentice slander bye
Hahaha I'm sorry!!!!! I was bored!!!!
@@sarawithoutanH you should keep in mind that this story spans the length of the main character's life. there are a bunch of books.
ANYWAYYSSSSS….. HAHA I knew you wouldn’t like the twist in HOSAB
u set me up fr
Also I named Piranesi after the book not the character babes 🤣
Lmaooo fair fair
that house of sky and breath ending sounds like something from a bad fanfic 😭😭😭 🌊
