Being pre-medical student in the middle of organic chemistry classes right now, I can't tell you how jealous I am of his instant-proton spectrum abilities.
My friend lives in a university where all the students pretty much have their own town. It’s in a city but this region is known as student town. It’s rare I’d meet a nice girl where I live but when I went up there and stayed for a few days, my god. He was getting laid all the time and had girls round every night. Also if you went to one of the bars in that area, you’d get chatting to people and they’d invite you to a house party and give you the address. That’s like every night. I don’t how they survive on that level of temptation, you can see people who were too deep into the whole partying every night though. Like they needed just a night off and get some solid sleep in but couldn’t say no.
"I've got to learn this" I always admire these kinds of people in uni that can manage workload and still think like this. Because I for one cannot brain the 'need to learn' part, years of barely passing has made me see assignments as just... tasks. Work for me to pass.
He was hot but not only is Will smart he is less arrogant and superficial he also would have kicked that other guys ass in a fight. So if you like beta males I see what you found attractive about him.
because your reality as everyone else's is bleak and shadowy, you remember a simpler time when you saw this movie for the first time and now in your adulthood which didn't turn out as you hoped you come to therms with your illusions and idolize this persona of Will an accidental genius sort of like a super hero and you relish the opportunity to feel like him a savant with the perfect background , sort of like experiencing some form of contrition and taking comfort that true justice is actually taking place unlike the real world.
I remember organic chemistry back in 96. It was evil then as it is now. I also remember all these wannabe doctors flunking out and crying when midterms and finals were given. During my 2nd semester organic chemistry exam it was 20 pages long and all equations. Guys and girls were crying. Many of the students told the instructor to F-off to his face. He just laughed it off. Some people just walked out 5 minutes into the exam. It was hard as hell. It was like something I hadn't even studied for. I stayed till the very end and did every problem. Somehow I passed. This was at the University of Michigan. The next year only 20% remained. We went from like 800 students down to less than 200 in my field. By my senior year, there were only like 50 of us still in the game. Years later I ran into that same instructor at a movie theater and I thanked him for making it hard. You don't want wannabes cutting you open. Some things in life just have to be hard.
My debate/speech Prof. (juris doctor, but never was called to the Bar) said the same thing in 1969. By making it easy the ENTIRE education system is raising the LEVEL OF EXPECTATIONS for students while not requiring them to upgrade or even struggle. Basketweaving degree from a JC may get you INTO UCLA, or U. Mich,, but it won't KEEP you there. My son got into an elite "Combined Sciences" dept. in Canada and I reminded him that, private HS or not, don't allow yourself to get "baby sat" by well meaning teachers. It's a rough life out there, and the comp. is fierce. A LOT MORE FIERCE than when I was in school.
I am trying to think of how organic chemistry could make you a better medical doctor. I didn't find organic chemistry to be difficult at all. Physical Chemistry was much more complicated with quantum mechanics twisting my brain in knots. While you are explaining the benefits of organic chemistry, go ahead and throw in the benefits of quantum mechanics.
I think that being freakishly smart would be mostly a curse, and this movie makes a similar argument, but I'm sure there would be moments where it would really come in handy, as in this sequence
Actually, being freakishly smart would be such an advantageous blessing that would allow one to potentially have life in the palm of their hands and this movie actually makes *several* strong points about the perks and benefits of possessing a freakish intellect/intelligence as well.
