how is this cultural appopriation ? she's in india filming this. It's showing indian culture. It's appropriation when someone take it from our culture out of context without understanding it and claim that it's their own and pretend that people we haven't been doing this for years. for example wearing it to coachella or Halloween or something like that. That’s not appreciation at all. Also I’m indian born in the west.
This song & music video is the perfect display of cultural appreciation, & for anyone who thinks that this is appropriation, well then you're sorely mistaken.
because, selena isn't white. it's not about what couture is stolen by who. it's about not letting white people have any coulture. if it was about all cultures then beyonce would be attacked for being blonde and Kanye would be attacked for wearing a kilt. i honestly don't care who wears and does what. people should learn the difference in appreciation and appropriation If i as a Mestizo were to wear dia de los muertos makeup or get a tattoo of Xolotl (because my family breeds xoloitzcuintlis and Xolotl is my favorite Aztec god) would be attacked on a daily basis. i also got a full ride scholarship for being Hispanic, i don't tell anyone that EVER because people usually say "you should not take resources from real mexicans" im a real fucking mexican. anyways it's just people hating white people.

One thing I will say about this woman. Her clothes always look incredible. Tailored perfectly. The best material. She never looks cheap. She looks sharp and cares about her appearance.
I am Indian and this is not offensive. Our culture is not so fragile that a music video can offend it (and this video, in no way is). Others need to chill.
There are many Bollywood songs worser than what they show in this video... Actually this video wasn't offensive in any way, this song was literally awesome.
I don't know why people are saying this video is offensive. I, myself, as an Indian don't find this offensive. Yes, the lyrics don't make sense to the video but what do we have to do with it? If you just listened to the song there's no problem right? If you find this video so 'offensive' and 'racist', don't watch it again then. Also, it's not an insult to the Indian culture; if yes, how? Just because they showed the poverty in the start? So what? Indians, if you find this racist; you, yourself know India in at such a beautiful place in some areas right? So If anyone else is showing it or making a comment about it you shouldn't have a problem with it because if you really want to remove poverty and crap from places, don't just sit and comment, do something about it too!
Exactly what an Indian Girl wants at a Wedding.. Joda, Jewelry, Make Up, Baraati, lot of Music, Dancing, Celebration and NO GROOM... 💃🏻💃🏻 She's livin' our Dream
@Not Chris huh I'm an Indian myself. And we do have many traditions and this comment is what a bride dreams of. Atleast in my area. I'm a south Indian, we love north indian style so I'd to see myself in north indian wedding and all
How is this video in any way offensive? She's just embracing indian culture. Being Indian myself, I don't think this is racist at all. I mean isn't this how it should be? People from all over the world discovering new cultures? People seem to be mad about how she just showed poverty in the beginning which is minor instead of showing the beauty which is major in India, well I mean how is it that big of a deal? India is beautiful and people know it. Calm down man, sit back and enjoy the song instead of giving critique and making nugatory observations.
K if the problem is with the costumes and the elephants, lemme tell you one thing, the video would be boring without those. I don't understand how this is racist. It's colorful and entertaining. And it's not even showing anything offensive. According to me, it's a great music video for a song like this.
@@yaelfeder9042 exactly, India has extremely diverse culture and generalizing it all like that gets a little cringy. Like Bruh, normal people exist here, not all sit and smoke weed while riding an elephant, not all live in slums, not all of India is unclean. When people with literally zero knowledge have these stereotypes, it's really demeaning
exactly, they are showing off the culture to the world. It's an appreciation. I swear people confuse appreciation and appropriation so much. This was not appropriation because she was not disrespecting the culture, or stealing from it, making fun of it etc. she actually went to India and just showing the beauty of it.
Felí Tedemí nono i understand! i am much too drained right now to explain it, so you can skim through this article if you want: www.sanskritimagazine.com/culture/sari-symbolism-indian-feminity/ it's obvious she has no idea what she's wearing and why you wear it in the first place since the song is completely uncorrelated to the video andit looks like she just threw it on for the sake of it 'looking good'. and that's the worst you can do with traditional things of ANY culture.
+TOSHi Think about it this way. SHE didn't pick the clothes, i'm pretty sure a producer did and some one picked the Indian style video. Which was a bad decision overall.
she looks pretty and it's all that matters! and btw anyone can wear a saree..We Indians feel happy when foreigners take interest in our culture and try it out! This is just a music video, don't be an armchair critic and be offended by every other thing..don't.be so uptight :)
parash biswal please don't speak for all desis... we all have different opinions on whether or not some white girl can throw on a saree just because she thinks she looks good...
The only racist people here are the ones dismissing true Indian's opinion. If Indian people say it's okay for Azalea to use Indian themes then it is fucking okay for Azalea to use Indian themes.
+Estefanía Izaguirre you're talking about an Indian here who LIVES in India and does NOT experience cultural appropriation, whereas Indians brought up in the West know what cultural appropriation is. It does not make it ok for a white girl to use our religious symbols in the name of a fucking music video.
You're an idiot. One Indian person does not make up the voice for an entire culture. She's completely destroying a culture, and religion be sexualizing it, being vulgar with cursing, talking about drugs and alcohol. One Indian person saying that it's okay makes no difference. Because one Indian person is not a whole culture.
Max Lastra You are an even bigger idiot for speaking for a culture that's not even your own. I wrote that after having contact with *several* Indian people both on and off-line and you can verify what I say just by looking at the comments in this video and paying attention to just how much her *actually Indian* extras are having fun here. It would be "destroying a culture" if this video were some kind of National Geographic documentary claiming accuracy and it only takes the minimal amount of common sense to know that this is _just entertainment_... but of course, after reading your comment I can clearly see you have none of it.
Kavya Sriram Please illuminate me on how exactly is this Cultural Appropriation? Where is she claiming to be Indian and that this is an accurate portrayal of India's traditions? I would understand if she were glamorising some marginalised and oppressed society but what she's doing is literally no different than what Bollywood does so it's not like she's spitting on India either. Don't get me wrong, I think her music is shit but I'd much rather take on the side of a person who's truly living and experiencing the culture in their everyday life than one that has been brought up to believe that everything westerners do they do to offend or make fun of other cultures.

But here is the happy ending--- "Parvati" a Caucasoid lady falls in love with "Shiva"; although Shiva hesitates due to worrying for Parvati, but eventually both get married, and though not accepted first as "son in law" but later get accepted.

Don't get me wrong, I think her music is shit but I'd much rather take on the side of a person who's truly living and experiencing the culture in their everyday life than one that has been brought up to believe that everything westerners do they do to offend or make fun of other cultures.
it's just a music video and is meant to entertain people!
we Indians don't mind it!
btw iggy looks really pretty in indian clothes
