This is pretty true on UA-cam. So often content creators will start a video by apologizing for not uploading lately but did we really notice they were gone?

People only pretend to care about you if you have lots of money or social status.
If you don’t make lots of money or prioritize making money you will be largely invisible to society and I personally don’t see any issue with that, as long as I have a few friends or acquaintances I can go out with and have a good time with on the weekend I’m happy.
I’m the guy living in the middle of nowhere in Kansas playing video games all day.
People need to learn to come to terms with the fact that not everyone can be a big shot in society, there always has to be people like me that are completely invisible to balance things out. 😊

The UA-cam algorithm has definitely gone odd, with videos from channels that I used to follow disappearing from search results unless I know their channel name.
It was prime around 2018-19 just after the adpocalypse. It’s gone down hill from there. People were bigging up YT to completely kill off TV by now. They dropped the ball

This is why I do youtube as a hobby. In that way, I don't have to worry about some of these pressures. And by the way, it's how I get to post genuine content free of trying to please the algorithm and free of pressure to get views.
Same. UA-cam for me is a way to share my personality in a much more effective way than I could on Facebook Insta or Twitter.

Billionaire maybe not, but a ytber with around 120 milions a year in USD, is easily a millionaire after those few years. A young man in my country of poland who does 315 mln views in 2023 earned around 1.5 mln pln which is around 250k usd.

The quitting part was sarcasm. He does this in alot of his videos. Some of it's geniune, some is sarcasm. It's up to the viewer to discern his meaning, which is what keeps his channel interesting.
He's clearly not quitting. He's commenting on all the other UA-camrs who are making quitting videos. Literally said "see you in the next one" at the end. He had that bit about burning his channel to the ground with sponsored products and everything, then at the end gives the product a plug.
I also felt something is wrong with UA-cam!

I believe his main point here is if there is a feel for retirement (as a UA-camr), you have to make sure that you don't bore yourself to death despite all the money you got. It's all about planning for the end that will still carry and maintain the status you had built and solidified. Tough luck to say the least.
Better to divest yourself of "status". Who needs it? Why does one need it? Freedom can be a scary place.

Great vid. I asked another youtuber if they see the same thing happening with UA-cam's competitors, such as Tiktok, Oddysey, Rumble Instagram, etc. Granted, some of them might not have the volume of UA-cam's, but are creators in other platforms quitting as much as they are here? Or is it only a YT phenomenon.

I've been watching TechLead videos for a while now, and I really hope this isn't the final end. Overall, I believe there will be a significant restructuring of the internet medium in the future. Many things that were authentic in the beginning have evolved into mass media today, and UA-cam is no exception.
yeah censorship of comments/videos and algorithm tuning for profit/company agendas is very real.
but this is where a lot of these larger companies wil fail longer term imo. They essentially forget about the desires of the people who make the platform what it is, and the users. Over a long enough period of time, if there are better alternatives which catch on, plus the perception/trust/financial incentives have been destroyed, they will die a slow death as a company. A lot of large tech think they are infallible/invincible at this point which is very far from the truth
If history is any guide, I believe it will be a race to the bottom. YT will squeeze its creators for a bigger slice of the revenues and the talented creators will just give up and go to a new platform, leaving only the untalented creators on the channel who are willing to work hard for low pay.

They programmed UA-cam streams for streamers where if I watch this 3 times a day UA-cam will only count this video for 1 stream for a day not 3 . Before spring 2022 it would count as 3 streams watching this video 3 times a day .

I enjoy your videos, I'd miss you a bit if you stop but you do what you must do. One thing I think is it matters if people watch all the way through the video or not. The more of the video people watch the more you'll be recommended. The length of the vid is not so important to the algorithm, a 4 minute vid and a 10 minute vid matters little, what matters is the viewers watch it all. Just do shorter 3-4-5 minute vids. It's probably less work and viewers might watch all the vid and not fast forward missing most of it. Then you have more time to do other your stuff. 500 is not a lot for all the work that goes into making vids.

It comes with practice and passion but that depends on if you also working full-time or UA-cam is your only job and source of income so you have enough time to make these many videos, but definitely it's not easy like no other work.

UA-cam is such a mess with the algorithm right now and I find it totally unpredictable so I decided on my channel just to do whatever the hell I wanted and whatever I found interesting and the chips will fall where they may. I grew 300% last year.

Did you mean 4 videos a month at $500/video? That is $2k/month. If it’s 4 videos a week then that is $104k a year which is decent.
UA-cam has not been a fair or level playing field ever since google aquired it...its almost impossible for a new channel to succeed on UA-cam.
I better start watching my favourite UA-camrs videos so that they don't lose motivation and quite.
UA-cam *has* changed, only the last few months, I started rage quitting UA-cam because it keeps on serving me ads every few minutes. It basically makes it impossible to watch a video on tv on the background.. I guess it's a channel/video setting, but it's a lot more prominent than it used to be

Love your take on this. I'm glad this yt algorithm problem is not yet affecting my content style, and I can still pump out daily gaming videos and still make a living, but it's very healthy to be cautious.
Great video. Since the first adpocalypse it was clear that yt is not a "career", just a temporary gig. Slaves at the whim of the algorithm.
Part of the problem is that EVERYONE wants to be a UA-camr now for a living. Any field that gets too saturated is going to see wages or profits drop. Being a UA-camr or TikTok star is basically like 20 years ago when everyone wanted to be a movie star or play in the NFL….everyone wants to do it.
It certainly becomes a more competitive space, but bottom line revenues affected by higher fees/lower payouts for example, or algorithm tuning for specific content as mentioned, is purely at youtubes discretion - unrelated to how many people want to be a youtube star. Just a negative structural change for most if not all creators.
Last year, UA-cam decided to go up against TikTok by promoting UA-cam#Shorts, that was basically the end of content creators who upload long video's.
Shorts are so annoying, though. :(

I believe that if youtube only allows non subscribers view a short amount of time of the videos they view, then that will force them to subscribe to see the whole thing. It would then get rid of the people who simply don't care to subscribe or label a handful of videos as samples and if they want to watch the videos in full, then they have to subscribe.

Personally, my goal with FIRE is NOT - "I don't have to do anything" but rather "I can do anything".
So my mind won't be occupied with how to pay bills. One day if I wake up and feel like driving trucks, I'll drive truck, if I want to write code I'll do that etc etc

As long as good content on YT don't even get a fracture of attention like the typical channels for the adhs asberger crowd, YT will no fkn care if you go or you stay. I love your content, it's informative and it calms distress me. So, the content give me a real gain of life quality. Then look around on YT, see channels with 10+ Millions, some idiots doing prank, make up, dressing, just being stupid. This content has no worth, it's worthless. But it has a big audience, good cash in. How must this feel, if you are a quality content producer, seeing this degenerates making 10 time more money and get much more attention range. Now, it is like it is. Depression.
YT is now a hostile environment for both creators and viewers. I think both groups of people are quitting this platform. View counts for many of my favourite creators are well down. I don't think it's just the algorithm, I think its the aggressive approach to tackling ad blocking and making the experience as bad as possible for people who can't afford YT Premium.
It is the 5th time or so that TechLead has left youtube! He'll be back as well.
