And they were the Philadelphia Stars prior and they were in all three championships they lost to the Panthers in the first one and won the next two they were my favorite team.
I live in Alabama and went to a number of Stallion games, they were a great team, well coached and managed, had fans in the stadium and great players the NFL should have tried to absorb a few of the better franchises, cities like Birmingham deserve to have a real pro team. Hopefully this new USFL will last a little longer than the original. After 3 seasons they were doing fine but the crazy meddling of the Generals owner who was obsessed with getting into the NFL is what killed the league. They could easily have gone on for ten years or more and probably managed a kind of merger later down the line, but the hostile attitude of the owner who I shall not name created a backlash from the NFL and instead of a 4th season they folded. Still the legacy of the league is in the mass of great players who wound up on NFL rosters, many who were hall of Fame greats. It was sad to see them go
Back in the mid 80s the United States Football League (USFL) was a great spring league until someone had a stupid decision to compete with the national football league (NFL) cause the league had teams in non NFL cities also future NFL Hall of Fame players were in that league plus the usfl that time with MLB Before their all star game NBA PLAYOFFS NHL PLAYOFFS NFL off-season

Oh i won't. I always thought it was amazing how little money the UFL put in their marketing. As if everyone was just suppose to know they exist. Thanks for the comment!
The team owners back then were super rich, and it was just a pass time, Trump owned the New Jersey Generals and the actor Burt Reynolds was part owner of the Tampa Bay Bandits, but there was almost a team in San Diego called the Sailors, but the rumor at that time was that the owner of the Chargers blocked that from happening
Actually, they were already in trouble when they decided to go to the fall. What they should have done is contracted a few teams and stayed in the spring.
I know the Outlaws and Wranglers merged but why not just keep it the Arizona Wranglers instead of the Arizona Outlaws? When Michigan and Oakland merged it didn't become the Oakland Panthers.
NFL hated the USFL. And if you paid attention, most of the USFL's teams were successful in markets that the NFL failed or wanted to pursue and weren't looking to expansion. Baltimore was the best team. Funny, no current team played there. Arizona moved from Chicago and merged with Oklahoma, but the Cardinals wanted to move there. New Jersey obtained Houston, which had Jim Kelly, and a great group of solid NFL quality receivers, including Ricky Sanders. They didn't want Birmingham or Orlando or Memphis. It was a merger attempt without Lamar Hunt. But to be honest, most USFL owners were broke and probably lied about their finances after dropping their franchise fee to join the league. They would have never survived playing in the Spring, ratings were dropping and players were missing paychecks. Desperate times called for desperate measures and the lawsuit was justified. Unfortunately the jury was full of weirdos the NFL hand-picked.
There’s nothing correct about this video. First, there was no ‘86 USFL Football season (which this video constantly refers to). Also, the Stars were not ‘83, 84 champions. They lost the first USFL Championship game to the Michigan Panthers and then went on to win the next two.

This league was really onto something! Should have stayed in the spring
Nice walk down memory lane!

The Baltimore Stars . 😎
1985 Champions, the USFL Rocked 👍

I loved the USFL.
Me too
They're coming back!!!
They need to keep Trump away
When?
2022

I'm glad they're bringing it back this spring. I hope it stays longer than that XFL McMahon started.
The gamblers all black uniforms are my favorite of any league
Houston's all black jerseys were exactly the same as the Oklahoma Outlaws.
I agree. The best Atlanta uniform = the all black outfit they had during the Glanville era.
On April 16th This will be The USFL's first game since July 14 1985( The Day After Live Aid )
They had some good team names and cool uniforms. Signing too many high-priced players and moving away from Spring football screwed them, IMO.
Yeah, they had some traction with the whole spring-summer schedule. Thanks for commenting!

Anyone notice Steve Young’s autograph on the Los Angeles Express helmet at 1:44?

The stars were a field goal from sweeping all 3 championships.
That was back when Mora liked talking about playoffs... PLAYOFFS?!?
Technically the USFL's operating years are considered 1983-1986 even though they didn't play in 1986.

Yes if they would have stuck to the spring/ summer the would probably still be around.
It was Donald Trump who did that. I hope this time, they don't let him anywhere near it.
The league expanded too fast in the second season, going from 12 to 18 teams!!
I would like to see a pro team in Hawaii.
You had one in the old World Football League called The Hawaiians in 1974
I was a huge Stars fan and am glad to be one again although their new uniforms are awful. I still have a Stars and Federals pennant.
Arizona and Detroit didn’t merge, they swapped teams.
