i got this in the winter last yeaR black and brand new. lets just say it got me through the snow and still going strong. driven very lightly and carefull but runs smooth on premium oil. im pretty surer it was the sv . not a luxury sedan like lexus and all that but honestly being from virginia where it's rare to have a car compared to not having one it holds up pretty well in comparison with those same cars. Brands like acura are charging you strictly for the hype. My mom owns a acura tl 2017 but we both get to the same places with the same ease so who cares.

+Ramon Carter I agree, I think Nissan has some great cars. I can't wait to see what they do next, because with a little refresh (updating some of the features) I think they could have some of the best vehicles on the market. Anyway, thanks for the comment! Cheers.

I have two children as well and I agree saftey is a big concern. This is why I don't believe a vehicle needs more illuminated technology around the driver as most drivers are so distracted nowadays. Moreover brighter lights at night give to reflective glares from the glass which highly reduces your ability to see when driving. It is an old trucker practice to turn your dad lights to dim at night especially on dark roads to extend your sight outwards. I understand today many like flashy, eye catching gizmos everywhere but at the end of the day a good clean car as this is allows you the driver to be more of an operator and not a entertained passenger.

+Channing Burnette I'm slowly starting to agree with you. I admit, I do have "shiny objext syndrome". I just love new tech on cars...bur you're right, more flashing lights and fancy options doesn't automatically create safer cars and/or drivers. I do, however, still like things like: (1) adaptive cruise control; (2) rearview camera; and (3) automatic breaking to prevent collisions. Hopefully, all of these new technologies will continue to improve and will be used as a backup to safe driving practices.

Fun Fact: Deep Blue Pearl is the SAME EXACT COLOR as on the Maxima!!! And I rented a brand new 2016 GMC Terrain SLT AWD V6 a year and a half ago and it had 7 miles on it as well when I picked it up, and I had it a week and drove nearly 300 mils. I, too, got to peel all the plastic, and kept some of it as a memento. So satisfying!!! :)

Thomas Clapp - how's the road noise in your 2014 Nissan Sentra? I am looking at the base 'S' Nissan Sentra model now, the 2016-2018 years. I would buy one with the manual transmission in it, however. I love to "row my own gears," plus, that saves me from having to endure all of these CVT transmission troubles that several manufacturers continue to have. I have only owned one car that had the CVT transmission, and that was a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS. Man, Mitsubishi did a great job with that CVT. You could place the tranny in to paddle shifter mode and clutchlessly shift through your own gears 1 through 6 if you like. Worked like a champ.
So you pretty much love your 2014 Nissan Sentra, Thomas? You must if you're fixin' ta buy a new one.

+sushi777300 First off, thanks! I feel like I'm slowly improving too. And secondly....that's a really good point. I guess I haven't experienced it enough to notice the good reasons for putting the fuel door on the "wrong" side.

I'm incredibly late to this but you make a very valid point. My fuel tank opening is on the driver's side and it was storming outside but someone left the tank VERY low so I went to pump gas and underestimated the strength of the wind and it ripped the door from my grasp and... well -- there's a dent in the door now so, I can see the benefits of having it on the passenger side.

Really liking my 2017 Super Black SV which I got last month here in Newport News, Virginia, traded in a 2007 SL with 128,000 miles, like all the bells and whistles that came with this car that my SL didn't have like back up camera and Sat radio, also came with sunroof which my SL had also, alittle disappointed no lane assist and auto stop but that probably comes with the upper models which were out of my price range, semi retired and working part time this will probably be my last purchase from a dealer with payments, use ECO mode for around town and found out SPORT mode works best for me on the highway, interior very spacious and trunk also, read alot of negative reviews but so far I am liking the car alot and time will tell if any major problems come up which I am hoping it doesn't..

Nice review; I also rented this car. The car is peppy and rides great; especially good for urban environments in view of compact size. I would have given at least four stars; feels a little bit more comfortable than a civic which I think is lower to the ground. I think Mazda 3 is a bit more money and I like the instrument gauge cluster much better on the Nissan. I think the front fascia has a nice look to it on the Sentra and rear has sort of a sporty appearance which I like. The reviewer cited the lack of high tech which didn't bother me, however point is well taken. This is a comfortable small sedan that is nicely priced and rides well in my opinion.

I did not put a car seat into the Sentra. I'm sure it'll fit, but depending on how big your carseat is (ours our enormous) you might have to push the drivers seat forward a bit more than you'd like. This really isn't a very big car. If you have the means, you might consider getting a Maxima instead. I'm not sure if you're renting or buying, but the Maxima has a lot more room (although admittedly it is more expensive). Good luck! Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

You brushed over the fact that the trunk is really large for a compact car( 18.4 cubic feet, I THINK), almost as large as the Altima and some other full size vehicles. THAT'S AN IMPORTANT ASPECT. Also, you played up the car, then gave it a disappointing 3 stars. I just bought a 2017 CPO Sentra SR, ( sporty option) which is my 1st small car after 8-10 purchases of full size sedans. Mostly Toyota brand. This car looks great and gets great gas mileage. For me, that's a win. Also, because it's a CPO, the warranty is fantastic.

I just test drove it yesterday and Nissan does call it a compact. Nissan classifies Sentra as a compact and Versa is subcompact.

It is not a midsize. It is a compact but the rental companies call it a midsize for some reason

I found that it's a nice car, but it's gutless. When I was searching for a new car, I test drove a 2015 SR. I liked the looks, the comfort etc but it had no feel. The transmission was horrible and the engine was noisy. I feel with the refresh they didn't really improve anything, no more led accents or led brake lights. I think nissam would benefit greatly if they put daytime running lights on all of their cars instead of just a select few. I'm sure it's a great highway cruiser though. I bought a Honda Accord instead which I then traded for a new 16 Civic in may 2016. Very rare to see Honda's in rental fleets.

+6 16CivicMT That's true, I don't think I've ever had a Honda rental. At least not from Enterprise. That's surprising, considering Honda's reputation for reliability. And I also agree about the Nissan feeling a bit cold and soulless. I'm not sure why that is. I guess maybe Nissan's cars need a bit more personality? What do you think?

100 Rental Cars Absolutely. I remember when I test drive the Sentra the salesman was encouraging me to have some fun with it, he was bragging about Nissans improvements to the transmission and I really wasn't impressed with it. It's to linear for me. I wish they'd put more thought into the transmission, hopefully they do for the next gen. And on a side note, Honda actually doesn't sell direct to rental fleets like most brands. So if you ever come across a rental Honda it was bought directly from a dealer and not Honda itself. I read that they wanted to keep their integrity up by doing that.

+6 16CivicMT Keep their integrity? I kinda like that. I know ZipCar has a lot of Hondas. Based on what you're telling me, it sounds like the company bought them the old fashion way. Kinda interesting.

100 Rental Cars Another thing is I don't think Honda offers them any fleet discounts, I've seen 2 civics at my local avis/hertz/national/enterprise over the course of about 5 years. It really is interesting. I left out the maxima, I think Nissan hit it out of the park with the new Maxima

+6 16CivicMT I agree about the Maxima. That's one of my recent favorites.

I hope I never get this as a rental again. I much prefer the Chevy Cruze over this but then again any new rental car is great.

+Disney Fan I totally agree. I'd take the Cruz, or even the Malibu, over the Sentra. But...the Sentra is not a "bad car". I like how it drives...it's just not very interesting. Spice it up Nissan!

My Cruze spoiled me when I got this car for the rental. I’m not crazy over it but it’s good for what it is.

Cruze and Malibu? They aren’t any better than the Sentra! I own a 2017 Nissan Sentra SL and it is way better than any Cruze or Malibu.... plus the Sentra sells a lot better
