Sometimes people forget that Gandalf is a Maiar in human form, sent by Manwe to challenge Sauron... because he was afraid... and the only one to succeed in his task. Saruman failed, the Blue Wizards poofed, and Radagast became more concerned about the wilds. But Gandalf not only was resurrected, because he showed true heroism and sacrifice... against the Balrog of Morgoth, but also because he was always true to his task... never faltered. I swear, every song in LOTR is just epic or heartbreaking. Pippin with 'Edge of Night', the dwarves in The Hobbit with 'The Misty Mountain Cold', and aragorn with this. One of the best things about these movies was the music.

Elrond's face is so sad when he has to give up Arwen. He looks like he's about to cry. I mean, he's literally saying good-bye to his daughter, he's probably not going to see her again because he's going across the Sea to Valinor, and Arwen's going to eventually die a mortal's death. So yeah, they might not see each other again...ever.
His expressions is perfect. And the way Legolas moves his eyes to indicate Arwen is perfect. And her laugh is perfect. And his joy is perfect. And the music is perfect. And my tears are perfect damnit! These are some of the best minutes put on film ever.
Oh my goodness, that face starting around 2:43! That reluctance to give up his daughter mingled with the knowledge of his daughter's happiness is captured so well in this scene. Elrond may be one of the most esteemed elf lords, but he's still a father.

He will see her dead and not only that, she will live long before he husband (elves still live very long even if mortal). It's just so impossible to describe how everything in this franchise seems like an ancient epic legend whose mysteries we cannot fully comprehend. So mystical. So beautiful.
Because that is how JRR Tolkien intended it to be. The events of Middle Earth is supposed to be *our* ancient history, and within the canon, Tolkien didn't write the novels, rather he found the Red Book Of Westmarch (it's the book you see Bilbo and later Frodo writing in Bag End) and was somehow able to translate it and then later on released it as "Fantasy" novels

Yeah, I also thought of Beren and Luthien when I saw this scene. I'm sure Elrond realized this when he watched this reunion too, having lived in the First Age. Such a beautiful moment. But having read The Silmarillion numerous times, I realize that it would take a dozen movies, at least, to convey the scale of events that arose in that age... When Aragorn says "my friends, you bow to no one" and the music starts, I still get shivers even after all these years. I was 11 when the first LOTR movie came out in 2001 and to this day I can still re-watch them without getting bored. The actors, the art direction, the OUTSTANDING music... Thank you Mr. Tolkien and Mr. Jackson for your outstanding work.

I take all of their videos with a grain of salt. There are some truly bad films out there and they do dissect them properly, but a moderately faithful adaption of a book written fifty years ago, to excellent effect, isn't worth a video that is, quite literally, just a tongue-in-cheek scalpel test.

Hugo Weaving's nonverbal acting is awesome in this scene. The way he looks overwhelmed with happiness looking between Aragorn and the daughter he's "giving away." It reminds me of my sister's wedding, watching my father do the same thing.
He gives a little whisper to her. I think he's saying "Go to him." He tried for two movies to get Arwen to give up her relationship and now he has to watch her leave with the knowledge that she will die a mortal, but it's worth it to him because his little girl finally gets her wish.
I love Arwen and Aragorn's reunion, it's a lovely little moment, but can you imagine being a commoner who doesn't quite know the full backstory of those two? "Why are they dramatically approach-oh wait they are kissing. Do you think they know each other or did he just pick an elven concubine? Yeah, I think they know each other." Also, to those arguing about Arwen or Aragorn being prettier, let's be honest: it's a godsdamn tie. As a kid I thought Arwen was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, and Aragorn made me feel things. Oh man, these movies.

Every Thanksgiving, my friends and I get together to watch the extended editions of these movies. We watch from 8:00 in the morning to 8:00 at night. We even eat in the same schedule as hobbits do, and have specific food items for the meals. But every time we get to the end of this movie, it never ceases to bring a tear to my eye. I love these movies so much.
I honestly feel like that "You bow to no one" part is the reason why the Hobbit movies, while very good in my opinion, will never reach the level of excellence Lord of the Rings achieved. I love both trilogies dearly, but there's something about the nostalgia of Lord of the Rings that will never be matched.
You're right, LOTR is more epic, extended and deeper. But let's not compare them because after reading the Hobbit I realised it wasn't meant to be an epic story but one for children. Jackson seemed to keep the light feeling of the Hobbit while filming it.

Also, when fighting Lurtz, the actor playing him accidentally threw his knife right at Viggo and he deflected it with his sword perfectly. The knife got stuck deep into a tree nearby. That wasn't supposed to happen but it was so badass they kept it in the movie.

Sometimes people forget that Gandalf is a Maiar in human form, sent by Manwe to challenge Sauron... because he was afraid... and the only one to succeed in his task. Saruman failed, the Blue Wizards poofed, and Radagast became more concerned about the wilds. But Gandalf not only was resurrected, because he showed true heroism and sacrifice... against the Balrog of Morgoth, but also because he was always true to his task... never faltered. And then Aragorn not only has the honor of being his friend, but is crowded by an angel, or minor god... what ever the Maia are. The fact is... he is like blessed by the heavens to be king... basically.

I swear, every song in LOTR is just epic or heartbreaking. Pippin with 'Edge of Night', the dwarves in The Hobbit with 'The Misty Mountain Cold', and aragorn with this. One of the best things about these movies was the music.

Oh my goodness, that face starting around 2:43! That reluctance to give up his daughter mingled with the knowledge of his daughter's happiness is captured so well in this scene. Elrond may be one of the most esteemed elf lords, but he's still a father.

It's just so impossible to describe how everything in this franchise seems like an ancient epic legend whose mysteries we cannot fully comprehend. So mystical.

Because that is how JRR Tolkien intended it to be. The events of Middle Earth is supposed to be *our* ancient history, and within the canon, Tolkien didn't write the novels, rather he found the Red Book Of Westmarch (it's the book you see Bilbo and later Frodo writing in Bag End) and was somehow able to translate it and then later on released it as "Fantasy" novels

No words to explain this trilogy. Actors, director, story adaptation, soundtracks... it's all perfect. I only can say: LORD OF THE RINGS DESERVED THE OSCAR and this trilogy can't be remade in the future , it's an unique master piece.

I also didn't expect to be a hardcore JRR Tolkien fan, I only just started watching these movies for practically the first time now (the actual first time doesn't count because i was really young) and here I am... crying my eyes out... how could no one cry at the moment they bowed? oh my god... I'm about to read the books too, now. This world is just... wow

In one single scene, a perfect example of Jackson's genius: the humility of power and recognition that even the most unlikely ones can make a difference between light and darkness. And when he bows to of them, it's the biggest tearjerker in the whole modern history of Hollywood.

Hugo Weaving's nonverbal acting is awesome in this scene. The way he looks overwhelmed with happiness looking between Aragorn and the daughter he's "giving away." It reminds me of my sister's wedding, watching my father do the same thing.
He gives a little whisper to her. I think he's saying "Go to him." He tried for two movies to get Arwen to give up her relationship and now he has to watch her leave with the knowledge that she will die a mortal, but it's worth it to him because his little girl finally gets her wish.

I love Arwen and Aragorn's reunion, it's a lovely little moment, but can you imagine being a commoner who doesn't quite know the full backstory of those two? "Why are they dramatically approach-oh wait they are kissing. Do you think they know each other or did he just pick an elven concubine? Yeah, I think they know each other."
Also, to those arguing about Arwen or Aragorn being prettier, let's be honest: it's a godsdamn tie. As a kid I thought Arwen was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, and Aragorn made me feel things. Oh man, these movies.

None of you managed to grasp that the standard carried by Arwen is that of the White Tree of Gondolin in the colour of Beryl (that is the mingled light of the Two Trees through Emerald in a lesser gem that is named "Elfstone"), and the standard of Turgon, the forefather of both Elrond and Aragorn through Idril Celebrindal his daughter and Dior Eluchil, the son of Beren Erchamion and Luthien Tinuviel and their descendants. No, but i do now...I need to educate myself more in the Tolkien lore, from a man who never finished it in his life time, because it was too vast even for his mind. But apart from that one thing, the film's are all above par and correlate with the books HaHaHa A* for effort

Every Thanksgiving, my friends and I get together to watch the extended editions of these movies. We watch from 8:00 in the morning to 8:00 at night. We even eat in the same schedule as hobbits do, and have specific food items for the meals. But every time we get to the end of this movie, it never ceases to bring a tear to my eye. I love these movies so much.
I honestly feel like that "You bow to no one" part is the reason why the Hobbit movies, while very good in my opinion, will never reach the level of excellence Lord of the Rings achieved. I love both trilogies dearly, but there's something about the nostalgia of Lord of the Rings that will never be matched.
You're right, LOTR is more epic, extended and deeper. But let's not compare them because after reading the Hobbit I realised it wasn't meant to be an epic story but one for children. Jackson seemed to keep the light feeling of the Hobbit while filming it.

By the time of the events of the Lord of the Rings, Aragorn is around 88. Aragorn spent roughly 20 years in Rivendell where he was raised by Elrond after his father, Arathorn, was killed by orcs when Aragorn was two. Around the time Aragorn turns 20, Elrond reveals to him the truth of his heritage, and Aragorn incidentally meets and falls in love with Arwen when she returns from visiting her mother's homeland of Lorien and staying with her grandmother, Galadriel (yes, for anyone who didn't know, Arwen's grandma is Galadriel, making Galadriel Elrond's mother-in-law).
However, knowing the truth of his heritage, Aragorn leaves Rivendell to take his place as a chieftan among the Dunedain and the Rangers of the North. A few years later, Aragorn meets and befriends Gandalf the Grey, and at the wizard's advice, he and his rangers begin patrolling and guarding the borders of the Shire.
For roughly 20 years, Aragorn then served in the armies of King Thengel of Rohan (alongside who was then Prince Theoden) and the Steward Ecthelion II of Gondor (father of Denethor, grandfather of Boromir and Faramir). Near the end of that campaign, Aragorn visited Lorien, reignited his romance with Arwen, and then later traveled through various lands, including Moria, for about 30 years (most of which Tolkien does not really specify about), and then the events of the Lord of the Rings ensues before long, by which time Aragorn is around 87-88.
However, given all that, it is likely that we will never see these events in a film (at least by Peter Jackson) because only the film rights for Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit (specifically) were sold by Prof. Tolkien. Everything else is still owned by the Tolkien Estate, and Christoper Tolkien (J.R.R. Tolkien's son) does not find his father's work to be justifiably adaptable into film media, and it is very unlikely that he will ever (as long as he lives), sell the rights to any of the other works, which effectively stops any further LOTR related films from being made.
