The first time I saw you play John Hammer introduced Mike, Konr, James and Korey as Niterail at the Owatonna Eagles Club. I may have to pour a measure of Woodford in a Niterail shot glass.

Blue moon is such a great record (as all his records are). You got a lot of this right man - 100% he’s a bridge pickup guy and the slap back is key. He also likes reverb, has used the hall of fame a lot but I know he’s got some new stuff on that board Dan from TPS made for him (now using a timeline for his slap for example). The one big thing I have noticed is that, actually, Robben typically has very little compression going on, it’s how he keeps his overdrive and lead sounds on that bridge stay so big sounding, so I’d say that’s another thing to watch out for, if it gets too compressed the dynamics go away and Robben is alll about those dynamics, his right hand is magic. He uses the round side of the pick as well a lot for a rounder tone and he angles his pick all sorts of ways. And you’re right Robben has played all kinds of guitars and amps and he’s always able to get his sound, a lot of it is in his hands and he keeps things magic by letting that uncompressed clean tone always shine through, even when the OD is on. His tone is one of the most difficult to play because of the lack of compression, it’s bright and unforgiving, but it’s how his chords also sound so amazingly articulate. I think you did a great job giving people some tips - just wanted to add the piece about keeping things less compressed than one might expect because if you listen to him play (like check out the way you treated me live a rockpalast), you can hear how uncompressed that tone is, the dynamics are wide wide wide!
