Quite Possibly THE Most CONTROVERSIAL Cabin at Sea... Right Now !

  • The Infinite Veranda Cabin is getting terrible reviews. Why? We explore exactly what all the complaints are about, and test it out ourselves on a 7 night cruise.
    The only problem is... so many cruise lines are now introducing it.
    First introduced 4 years ago by Celebrity, on the new Edge Class of ships. At the time it was considered an experiment, with absolutely no guarantee of being a success. 3 ships later and Celebrity is showing no signs of going back, and it was introduced to the sister ships Beyond, Apex and the latest the Ascent.
    Whats more, Royal Caribbean is now getting in on the act, and the Infinite Veranda Cabin is now on their latest, the Icon of the Seas, and will also be featured on their next, the Odyssey.
    Not to be left behind, MSC and Norwegian are also going to be putting in exactly the same thing. Followed by Viking!
    Are we effectively witnessing the eventual phasing out of the traditional balcony.
    We were recently aboard the Celebrity Ascent, to have a thorough test of the last version of the Infinite Veranda, and report back.

    If someone from a cruise company film free said I was on their shot, I'd have said they were in the way of the vacation I paid for.... Especially knowing they were filming a campaign that prominently features an actor portraying a passenger eating french fries.

      I was told that I needed to move from one of the pool bars while I was having a drink and lunch so that they could film a promo on Princess a few years back. I declined their kind offer. The head guy from the film crew came up and apologized for the brusque treatment. I finished my drink and lunch, and then I moved. No apologies from the guy who told me to move. I did inquire about the film crew’s schedule, so as to not be a bother to them in their subsequent shoots. They actually did give me their schedule.

    IV was perfect for our Alaska cruise 2 weeks ago. The large window with the bed right up close to it really maximizes the mountain, whales and glacier views from the bed. We were in temperatures from 2C-15C on the trip and could keep the window open all night for the best sleep ever. I would get a normal balcony in warmer places, or just an ocean view room. another great video!

    • @ritzytravelguide
      @ritzytravelguide  21 день тому +1

      Hi yes, the Infinite Veranda is ideal for those mild weather cruises. Agreed about getting the configuration with the bed by the window. Ours was too. But some IV layouts have the sofa by the window instead, and the bed way back in the centre of the cabin. So important to book the IV configuration you'd prefer.

    It is a great cabin. We cruised on a sister ship and had an infinite veranda. Unfortunately, the window was locked more often than it was unlocked. We usually could not open it when we wanted it open. We hate the infinite verandah and will avoid such cabins in the future. Those few extra square feet of room space are not worth it! Give us a traditional verandah any day.

    Well we loved the infinite Veranda and after being on 30 plus cruises , we think it’s a great design so much so that after sailing on the Apex we booked the Beyond and the Ascent . I might add that the Celebrity Edge ships that have the Infinite Veranda are booking up six months out , so clearly some people like them .

    I believe the door opens outwards because that cabin is sat back in a recess, slightly further back than the main corridor, so if the door opens outwards, it doesn't restrict access to people walking down the corridor which would breach a fire regulation. So if sat back in a recess, they probably decided to make it open outwards into the corridor as it makes the room feel less impeded.

    • @ritzytravelguide
      @ritzytravelguide  Місяць тому

    Just seen your video, and I agree with one of the other viewers, you are on holiday and you paid for it, so you have the right to access all areas within your package, if anything they should have filmed this when less passengers around like a port day or still the cruise company make reasonable allowances for passengers who cant access that area. The cheek of these film companies thinking they own the area. Sorry Bill but why should yours or anyone else's holiday be interrupted for people who are paid to be there. 😊 Ps once again great content and loving every video you put out👌

    We just went on the Celebrity Ascent for the 2024 transatlantic cruise to Barcelona. We had a starboard side infinite veranda room and absolutely loved it. It was the perfect room for us. Now keep in mind this was a mid April sailing where humidity wasn’t bad and we were moving at a good speed. If it was the Caribbean during the summer and you are sailing along at a slow speed, I can only imagine how “hot” it would get. Overall, we had zero complaints. Well, maybe one. It is quite easy to see through the windows. So be careful how you are dressed.

    Respectfully disagree with your conclusion. We would never book an oversized ocean view cabin just to "stick your head out the window like a dog." Infinite Veranda, a grotesque misnomer, was the brain child of French ship builders attempting to 1) simplify construction to lower costs, and 2) improve aerodynamics to reduce fuel consumption for the line -- THE single largest expense of operations. We are booked on Ascent December 2024 in a Sunset Veranda intentionally avoiding the Infinite mutation. Keep up the good work, Bill!

    Too bad they didn't allow the AC to work when those bifold doors were closed. Otherwise I think the cabin is great, and really like the extra room you have when the window is closed. One other improvement might be to have the blind go up and down from the floor rather than the ceiling. Then you could still have some privacy plus light and view at the same time.

    Sorry but the "infinite veranda" is the single biggest design mistake I've seen in the cruise industry EVER! Nobody wants these cabins! A lot of ships sale Caribbean itineraries in the summer the temp is easily in the tripped (f) digits. Open the windows and you're room will probably start sprouting thunder storms over the bed from the rapid change in temperature. No, these are absolutely horrible.

    I was on the same sailing as you. I remember them doing those photo shoots! Aside from that, I completely agree. The IV is really only good when you’re in cooler climates. Not a good idea to make a ship with staterooms that are only fully usable in certain weather conditions. It’s an amazing ocean view cabin otherwise! I do love the ascent nonetheless.
