I can not wait for this bus build to begin 😁 especially as you guys are doing it together, never doubted the expense plus the labour etc and I suppose the more you build the better you get, plus two great minds on this build. Loved the video as always.
Love the design! I like Jaylenas idea of a fold down platform at the end of the bench by the door for a taller person to sleep. You could rig up a leg that possibly could sit on the step? Crazy question? Could you have a table on the kitchen side that slides in and out for a kitchen table at the bench? Whatever you come up with it will be awesome!

What an awesome team of Bus Home Builders, Isaac & Jaylena. This bus is going to be beautiful, especially with the underbed lighting, the toekick, & dim lighting around the shelving . And don't forget the 2 dimmable lights in back of bus to use for reading & romancing. I still think you should have some kind of a shower if you could possibly fit it in. Take care Jaylena & no falling out of the bus. Much love to all 3 of you. ❤
I Love the full size bed in the back and not one that you have to put together and take apart every morning and night. I would be exhausted doing this all the time😃
Your plan sounds good but I like how Jolene said about adding the little end to the couch. You can also use it as a little end table stand when no one sleeping on it.
It’s always nice for the sink to be close to the front exit so that you can use a long faucet sprayer to rinse off sand or spray off before coming inside as needed. A deep sink in case they need to wash their hair in it. That helps a lot when there’s no place to shower or when no build of shower.
You should do the shower like in your bus you sold. Also a toilet to slide in somewhere. It would be a complete home!! Keep up the great work! You guys are going to have this ready to sell in no time! 😎❤️
Fixed bed that’s higher off the ground so you have lots of storage.you can do an L dinette starting from the bed and a small couch next to it.So on the next side what about one full length cupboard that goes from floor to roof , then sink, storage under sink and counter space .stove fridge .All suggestions for you all lol.
Hey Do a fold dwn table and some stackable chairs !! and maybe a full size or queen bed that folds upward that covers the back door when not in use ! but try & get ideas hopefully from It ....
Hello Isaac and Jaylena...Just my suggestion , I would love my bathroom and shower near to my bed..as I say its my opinion..To each is own..I now you guys will do a good job👍👍❤❤
Great sanity checks. Possibly Tip 5.1, be realistic and don’t spend every penny on the build. Reserve some $ for unknowns/emergency repairs and fun. Otherwise you can be stuck!
I get it. I'm already nearly 7k into my build and just getting started. I placed an big order today and have a few things on the way. I'm possibly facing becoming homeless so getting the bus livable is very high on my priority list. I bought a jointer so I can glue up boards from my own mill. Then a guy calls wanting to buy the lumber I've milled and been drying for over a year. Last person that called about it wanted to pay me .59 cents a board ft. I laughed and said heck no I charge 2.50 a bdft. And that's half what anybody else charges. They said I was insanely expensive. I said well why would I mill up a log stack it and dry it for over a year and sell it to you for .59 cents a bdft. When I can do nothing but haul the log to another mill and they will give me at least 1.00 per bdft. So a good log should pay around 300.00 I'm not trying to cheat nobody. Just trying to make ends meet. They said I was insane. So I figured my price for a 1x6x8ft is 10.00 each for white oak s4s. If you go to lowes nearby you can get that board in 3/4" not 1" and it'll be 5.5" wide not actual 1x6 and you'll pay 5.10 per bdft. Not 2.50 that I charge. I'm almost certain it's buyers from one of the local cabinet shops that are looking for super cheap prices from New sawyers that just bought a mill and know nothing about worth. People balk at prices but sadly I remember paying the same prices per bdft back in high-school in 1996-97 I couldn't afford lumber back then either Which is why I got a mill. You'd think I'd be making money like crazy but I can't sell any lumber because nobody wants to pay anything for it here. Anyways rant over take it easy man. I'm following along for sure.
So does this 4 window only have 10 feet of useable space between the side door and the back of the bus ? That’s tight 😳. Ps I love to watch you two brainstorm ❤️
Just a suggestion, what if you have the dinette side to side in front of the bed with a table that sides out from under the bed. We love your videos can't wait for you to start building again.
Just getting caught up after the holidays.. Happy New Year!!! This is sure getting my wheels turning, there is a little 7.3l 4 window for sale near me..... lol. I know you have bought the lagun mount but I was wondering if you ever considered a slide out table from under the bed? sort of like an oversized slide out bread board, with a leg on the other side. Since you have 5 feet of bed, you would have nearly 5 feet of slide out table.
Have you ever thought of Murphy beds 🙂 lots of options for smaller spaces our twist the layout set it differently by thinking differently. Computer layout are wonderful
Very nice layout design. I'm so interested in your cost list for all your materials. Thanks for sharing that. I'm trying to prove to my husband that it isn't near as expensive as he seems to think. We have the tools and building knowledge but he's on the RV bandwagon and me, well I'm Schoolie all the way
I have a folding down full size day bed at home. What about using something like that for the bed in the back? One person can sleep on it and when it's folded down then 2 people can use it. It's a shame the bed has to take so much room but I guess it is what it is.
I saw a bench with two lifts, one was for a composting toilet, the other side for storage, I would rather have a shower and toilet, but I'm 61 and that is my preference
I saw a video on a bed lift using 4 gas struts which worked simular to a pop top on a van, but also included a locking system. I thought it was brilliant, it was so easy you could lift it with one finger. I've been trying to find it, but haven't beenn able to yet.
Why not have the dining table behind the back of the couch, the extendable hollow metal legs being the arms of the couch, then it swings over the top of the couch making the dining table? The plans for such a table is on video; “6 people 2 dogs and a snake on a bus” I’m definitely building that idea into my bus conversion, and making it a fold out table with a piano hinge for sewing and crafting! Saves a lot of space and is an awesome idea for all tiny homes and bus builds!
Been watching for a long time. Love your work. In the process of selling my van and thinking a bus is next. always curious why you never replace the ceiling in your builds. Why is that? Excited to see you do one on this build.
Most people “re insulate” the busses. I don’t think the time is worth the effort unless you replace the single pane windows. I like the skoolie windows. I also think a cheaper heater will burn you out without touching the existing insulation. I like the the flat sheet metal look. The corrugated bus roof I don’t like much. So gonna do a wood ceiling in this one
Maybe after this build you could spend some time putting your different design ideas down on paper...grid paper would help and then get velum to copy over your basics and make changes. I like the idea of a bed/dinette combination in the very back without a couch along the side and remove the table if you want to entertain without it. Like you said a while back you hardly ever have people spend the night because they all have their own buses. It would be interesting to see that design...you could include a toilet/bathroom because you aren’t wasting it on a separate dinette. The whole thing would feel really open and leave a seat upfront near the door so anyone else riding will be safe because buses do get into accidents sometimes. There are basic measurements for seat height, countertop height and step heights that feel comfortable to most people. You could use the IKEA kitchen build to do your whole design on your computer showing everything in three dimensions. It helps if you have an automatic list of things you need for certain designs or break them down by area or function if you want to change your design up from time to time. Not sure if this is something you’ve thought about or are already doing but once you get it down then you save all that time on design because you already know what each one requires. I was absolutely overwhelmed the first year we had our business but as the years went on I automatically knew what I needed for the basics and then started with improvements as the years went by and I wanted or needed to change things up. @@isaacturnerit Cool. I happened on the IKEA kitchen app when we redid our kitchen and it was easy to use. That will make it a lot faster once you learn it. I was trained as a landscape designer but usually prefer paper and pencil for most drawings because I like the process.
Has anyone ever split the kitchen? Like bed across the back, sink on one side, fridge & cooker on the other. Bench seats in front of that that could connect with board to make another bed. I get why the bed is usually in the back, size, under access etc., but if you split up the kit hen seems you might gain some room. Maybe not, hard to visualize on the video. Just wondering. I love the way you two work together to figure stuff out. peace y'all ♡
Still cheaper than getrin a decent used rv with similar amenities, at least achookie if something happens everything is accessible for self/owner repairability
There are other options. Drop down/ Murphy type bed. In vans they make type of hybrid fixed slide to couch with benches each side in front and a table top for a 2 person dinette and giving you more open living area in day time config compared to night time config.

I thought about it as a shower but not this one. Maybe in minion. To finish this in 30 days needs to be pretty straight forward
This is so interesting and exciting. 💜💜💜 We has snow for Christmas here in CT 6b also. Much love to the Fam.

Much love :)
There are other options. Drop down/ Murphy type bed. In vans they make type of hybrid fixed slide to couch with benches each side in front and a table top for a 2 person dinette and giving you more open living area in day time config compared to night time config.
I don’t want to lose windows :)
You could have the back that's near the door fold down to make it longer?
Yeah I think I’m gonna do that :)
Hi Issac please watch out for jaylenas health and please don't over work yourself jaylena please take care of your self alright so sorry your not feeling good you have my thought and prayers for you and Issac ok♥️👣🙉

Painters tape is cheap. Would it be helpful to tape things out on the floor?
We did use that.
Do you add insulation to any of your builds, Isaac?
I do not re insulate. Unless you change out single pane windows I don’t think it’s worth the effort
Why not put the frig under the bed, then you could put the stove/oven in?
I like to leave the bed open for storage and I like getting under there from inside
