I am the PM for alert processing rules, and I have to say this is a really great video! Thanks John! Wanted to elaborate on a couple of points: 1. In the video, John defines an alert rule based on activity log that fires when the storage account key is regenerated. For some reason, whenever he does regenerate the keys, he gets two alerts. Why? The alert rule generates one alert for every event in the activity log that matches the condition that you specify. When you regenerate the key, the activity log first has an event about starting to handle the regeneration request, followed by another event once that is done, saying whether it succeeded or failed. If you want to receive only one alert per regeneration, you can filter it inside the activity log alert rule - when you edit the rule condition, you can filter by status (Started / Succeeded / Failed). 2. Near the end of the video, John demos alert processing rules by triggering alerts with action groups, and then polling his inbox to see if his alert processing rule actually added the action group. That is of course legit. Another way to check it is to open the list of alerts in the portal, click on the new alert that was fired, and then click on its history tab. If an alert processing rule modified this alert, you will see the details there - which alert processing rule, did it add or remove action groups, which action groups. Ofir
These videos are just...essential! The company just threw me into a project where I will be handling Monitoring and Alerting practises + ITSM and let me tell you a secret...NOT A SINGLE CLUE I HAVE. But from what I can see it's not that difficult and Kusto does not seem to be the end of the world if you are familiar with SQL or PowerShell. You just won a sub!
another great video from JS! What brought me here this time, i'm looking for a way to simplify my alerts setup, meaning i'd rather have one alert of a particular type scoped to the whole subscription, rather than a separate instance of the alert in every resource group. looks like this should be possible with "create resource-centric alerts by using splitting by dimensions", but i'll have to do more reseach for that.
