In my travels and expat life in Asia and Southeast Asia, I find the people in SEA to be the most friendly, welcoming and hospitable, and not just to foreigners i.e. countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, etc. I've lived in Hong Kong and NYC and know what rude, aggressive and unfriendly behavior is like with vendors swearing if you touch and look w/o buying, or take too long to buy. lol. I totally respect, applaud and admire the hawker culture for what they do, the grueling hours and working conditions that are long in confined space with heat and humidity 24/7, 365 days a year. They do it, not only b/c it is their livelihood, but for the love, passion and dedication to their food craft and desire to serve loyal customers with good food at low prices for as long as they can.
😂 reminds me of “No Soup for you!” Soup Nazi Episode of Seinfeld. It’s true that SEA tends to be a lot friendlier but they also tend to hold back displeasure and look smiley on the surface. (Good and bad).. 😅 Totally get what you mean with HK and NYC 😅.. I’ve got my fair share of ??!!??? everybody has freedom of speech to convey how they feel.. no harm done.. it’s just business of everyday life. Straight talking culture
Uncle's carrot cake is good, lots of egg... Yes, he "dances" while he cooks 😂 I usually buy the black & white to have both tastes. The duck rice with the long queue is not bad too. Love the char siew bao & coffee bao from the handmade bao stall, their dim sum chicken feet & lor mai gai are good too. 😉 The vegetarian stall is good, also super long queue on every 1st & 15th of lunar month. I love the bee hoon & laksa 😊
Yes.. when it’s peak hour.. time is money. Just gotta concentrate on speed.. however.. the older ones have seen it all.. they just work at a leisurely pace and doesn’t seem to be fazed by anything at all.. almost Zen like. Zero stress 😂
Singapore is really unique in this aspect.. if the government didn’t round up and house all street side hawkers in the 70s.. there wouldn’t be so many hawker centres in this small island 🏝️
I would rather pay more so they can survive with the increasing costs. I used to had a fishball noodle at Geylang Bahru hawker centre they have dry noodles but for a student it’s cheap to have a lot for less only at $2. When you are a part timer working holiday job this is the best food I ever had, couldn’t complain. 😂
You’d be surprised most are keeping it low to accommodate their loyal regulars that are old folks. Most younger hawkers are now going for a min of $4.. $6-10meals seems to be acceptable now
😅 frankly.. I’m guilty of that maybe around 3-4 times.. somehow forgot my wallet.. but lucky for me. I survived everyone of them.. giving me their trust that I’d pay them another day. Phew 😮💨
There are truly some, Kovan market chicken rice stall, rude like hell….the men couldn’t be bothered to serve but no choice so they vent their frustrations to the customer.
Hawkers can appear a little brusque at times, but that's a Singaporean thing. They appreciate an attempt to speak Hokkien or Malay, I don't know any Teochew I'm afraid
Some are... but some are not. Just like all things in life. Not black or white. Actually, I don't need any of them to be super friendly. Just be human and polite can already.
It ranges right? Some may talk loud and a little rough around the edges.. but will end up laughing alongside after a few seconds.. many times I’m trying to calibrate if they’re about to chop me up 😅
Feel sorry for these hawkers, w orking at extreme speed, repetitive movements in such hot humid conditions. Hope they're able to have a good financial retirement pension

If they are not friendly, it’s mostly because they are so busy focusing on cooking or serving

Could be the reason their food left much to be desired.😂
All these old sch dishes makes me super hungry watching from overseas..😀
這家在新加坡Toa Payoh嗎?看起來好好吃喔,那燒鴨還有魚丸湯真的都流口水,而且又便宜❤️🎈🎈🎈👍👍😋😋👍
I never been to Singapore before all of the looks good and looks delicious
Would love to try some of them.
Such incredibly hard workers. We found some of the best foods at Singapore Hawker Centres.

🙏 thanks for the video! But the shopping centre opposite is no longer called Ginza Plaza, but rather West Coast Plaza.
Thanks 😄
Still remembered it as Ginza.. haven’t been there in a long time
Nice tour of the west which I have little knowledge of. I'm territorial of the east and central.😂
Alamak, you guys should have included the popular Hainanese curry rice stall and the super popular chicken rice stall directly opposite this stall.

Do you mean talkative? Better to let them concentrate on preparing your food. Talking to them can be distracting when they are busy.
Many Sg Hawkers need to learn to SMILE even when under Stress … Learn from the Master…PAP 😊
🤣 they don’t have to stand and mend their shop 10hrs a day every day
That's 60 years of smiling since.😂
Im strongly proud of these respectable Hawker Stall Bosses in West Coast .❤
If you say, "Can I pay you tomorrow?" after they prepare the food, usually they become unfriendly
😅 frankly.. I’m guilty of that maybe around 3-4 times.. somehow forgot my wallet.. but lucky for me. I survived everyone of them.. giving me their trust that I’d pay them another day. Phew 😮💨
😂😂😂
It is a rude question to begin with .. 🤣

Sometimes I don’t feel like filming when I’m not up to it.. coz I’m a grumpy old fart myself at times.. 🤣
What is the constant drilling? Are they building another MRT station?
Beats me.. as the population grow.. everywhere is full of constant digging
seems west side hawkers are cheaper. Fishball noodle good value and smart people like you and me , poke our fishfalls :)
I’ve had waayyyy too many of those fellas running from me in my life.. now I just poke them to be dead sure 😁
@@Piggypuggy yea, typo smart ppl like us not small, just amended

@@Piggypuggy Got one really ah beng one sell western food near my place until... bankrupt cause like whole day long face...
I don't believe sweeping statement but I am a firm believer that any hawker will be friendlier if you tell them you are going to broadcast their shop
Thank you
Thank you K 😊
Correction please. It’s now called West Coast Plaza and not Ginza Plaza
Piggy , u got your IG account to share us???
The more brisk their business is,the more stuck-up they are!
Yes. From years of reading humans and experience.

The bigger the filming team, the more friendly they become, I guess
