Too old to do something can actually be good. This is especially good at work when someone younger says you're 50 you're too old to lift those boxes let me do it. Then you go to the gym after work and bench 150lbs for a set of 10.

When I hit 40, I was hit by this wave of relief. I was suddenly "old" and "undesirable". I was magically liberated from the constant pressure of always having to look and be my best when I left the house! I hit menopause at 46, and was further freed. No worrying about starting in traffic or public. No sudden gush and charge to the bathroom as I get up from bed. No expecting it, forgetting it, or having it show up off schedule. I'm loving this!

@scottcrawford7674 Yeah, I agree. I only fight back because it's self-defense. One of the greatest things I learned in brazilian jiu-jitsu is that I only fight back for self-defense and never attack. In order to fight back, I needed to be strong, so 18 ironman taught me well on how to use my strength. So yeah, in order to protect my family, I do fight back the institution. It's a matter of respecting ones faith, which is a constitutional right in the country you defend (thank you for your service, btw).

I have to agree.
Even as a Christian who is taught to turn the other cheek and to share our morals by persuasion rather than by force (something Christians have always struggled with, especially when corrupt politicians and corrupted organized religions get involved), it blows my mind when Christians go too far the other direction. I've seen people get robbed and victimized in many ways because they were "trying to do the Christian thing" and let criminals and scumbags into their lives and homes against any common sense.
Jesus said to love your neighbor. He said to forgive as we desire to be forgiven.
He didn't say to be a doormat.
He never said to stay in an abusive relationship, or to let a thief move into your home, or to allow a child abuser to have access to your kids, or even to stay friends with the person who brings out the worst in you.
It irritates my wife, but I tell her once in a while that God gave us our middle finger and our backbone for a reason.
He also gave us tact and diplomacy, but once in a while we have to be more assertive.

Several years ago I dropped a piece of equipment on the middle finger on my left hand and had to go to the ER to get it stitched up.
I was understandably concerned about retaining full usage of the finger. It is my driving finger, after all.

Years ago, I got an infection in the tip of my middle finger, and it really swelled up as I was driving to Hilton Head. I had to hit urgent care right away once I got there. The doc had to slice it open to clean it out. He bandaged it and told me to keep it elevated. So, there I was, on my vacation, walking down the beach, giving everyone the finger.

I've been told since my 40's that there is a lot I'm not allowed to do because of medical reason. Gave me a huge change in perspective that others my age don't agree with. Like, no go do the fun activity now [ie sky-diving, roller coasters, trip] even if it means you go without telephone service for a month or so. That months loss of phone service isn't going to matter and all you will think about at my age is how much you wish you did that activity. Now I gotta wait until the doctors think I'm so old that it wont matter if the activity kills me.

In my circle we give each other the finger as almost a greeting or a show of joyfully "commenting" on what you think about what another (friend) is going on about. i never see/hear about "friendly bird" flipping out in the world. we laugh at each other - but also understand there's a nuance at play. not all middle finger salutes are hostile. i guess that only works among friends
