Didn’t know about the large fitting into the medium hardhat to make the hardhat look smaller , great tip
Pedro Zumba thanks for watching!:)
Many more good videos to come
Just don't let your safety guy find out. He'll blow a gasket 😂
Millwright at a sawmill, my grandpa (ex coal miner) just gave me his old hard hats for christmas ( 2 of the skull guard full brims) and i love them already. Never cared for the full brims or the fiberglass look but these hardhats have history. One says 75/76 and another says 95/96, currently wearing the 75 to work every day
Ay man I really like how you guys in the USA have tradition in your industry. I'm here in Australia and I suppose we're developing one. Gonna try get one of these shipped over, no local supply unfortunately. Appreciate the video.
Drabhand heck yeah welcome to the channel
Australia definitely has tradition lol check out mining boom lol
Hell yeah brother I’m in Melbourne and can’t find and hard hat that fits me properly and these guys have a jumbo need to get me one
Local 1 ironworker. Just got my book in April. Love the videos and I just made myself a tool bucket like that in one of your videos. Keep making them and stay safe out there! Incidentally in Chicago we wear them with the bill backwards at all times.
Right on brother! Work safe... in Portland bill forward for hook hands but not always... and how do you like your tool bucket?
@@ChantzFabz For hook hands? And I love it! Everything I need with me at all times! Going to be very useful for those downtown jobs where you have to park a few blocks away!
Aron Niskanen hook hands are Ironworkers that work with the crane... that’s what we call em on the west coast lol like the raisinggang
@@ChantzFabzAh okay lol we call em hook on men
Local 302, Seattle tower hand here. I just stumbled across your channel. Good shit here, and I’m gonna smash the subscribe button! Stay safe brother
Just saw this comment thanks for the kind words

Great Video man!! I’ve bought several Lyft Helmets over the years and I am fed up with my liner clips coming off the studs constantly while I’m working. I can’t tell you how many times I’ll be walking around my job site with over-head hazards and realize that my helmets suspension is not attached completely. Unfortunately I am not the only one with this problem. All the guys I’ve worked with that have Lyft helmets have told me the same thing. A buddy of mine just purchased an MSA Scullguard. He showed me how tight the suspension is clipped in. I was very impressed and decided to buy one myself. Lyft hard hats are very expensive for being so dangerous. They look cool but are definitely over rated and after three separate hard hats with same problem with them all, I will never buy one again. Hopefully my MSA hard hat won’t let me down.
I have a lift with an MSA liner inside… made the hat actually wearable… the lift suspension would always fall off my head… I also Have 2 other hats, both of them skullgards. I use my Lyft with MSA suspension on rebar jobs and my skullgards when erecting structural steel.
Great stuff, love my Skulgard....cheers from an old geezer in Florida, Paul
Thanks for another good one. It always feels wierd when they are new. My first formen told me to let it bake in the window of my truck after work to speed up the darkening... LMAO
Yeah new ones are funky lol
@@ChantzFabz does the sun really work????
Did it work?
The best hard hat ever made in my opinion! I have 2 and love both. Great videos buddy!
Are you a Ironworker???? And have you ever wore a Bullard
Chantz Fabz Never worn a Bullard . I am in local 355 laborers. Joining the Ironworker’s in a week when I move to Houston
Andrew Graham right on yeah bullards are lighter and smaller! I love em
Andrew Graham plus no other trades but Ironworkers wear em... so as a trade you stand out every trade wears these brown hats
Chantz Fabz I am really wanting to go west someday . Oregon or Washington state!
I was told by a sells manager at a welding supply store it is a born on date not an expiration date. The hard hat is only bad once the top center becomes soft. This was how they are able to sell it to Ironworkers with tradition.
Bro I've had my same one you have for 15 years and have had the same "tall" harness look, I never liked it, I'll definitely use your tip on getting a large harness thanks 👍🏽
Wow it actually worked, the hack, looks so much better on my head, thanks man for the tip !!! 👍🏽👍🏽
Ironworker LU321 I still wear my dad's old hard hat, it doesn't have a date stamp , so not a clue of the age of it. I do have the liner that flips , it's okay the stationary liner is better but several papermills wants the brim forward.
Hell yeah brother keep up the good work wish were around when I was going through Punk School, beard looking good too
MDM Welding thanks man the beard is a long struggle but I’m trying
Thanks for the tip about medium hardhat with large liner, tired of looking goofy at the jobsite. I look like a mushroom head with the hardhat sticking out so much lol. Great Video!!!!
Any tips for us apprentices who can’t afford one of these on how to get the fibre metal hard hats to sit lower? Thanks man
Metal framer here, good video dude
Thanks man, welcome to the channel
Tips for walking big iron and videos on working with fall protection tips etc?
Are you allowed to use that old school suspension here in nyc ?
There’s no date stamped on my msa skullgard. Original color is white with an “Inland” steel sticker on the front. Any idea when they began stamping dates on them?
Do the full brim skullguard hard hats have a place in Ironworking?
A lot of guys wear them
Rods/foreman! But that’s about it because you can’t put a face shield or hood
The official rodbuster hat. Once I got into structural my foreman and crane guy (besides myself) we’re the only ppl with the full brim. Everyone else had the cap style.
hey man. thanks for all the valuable information. you from Oregon?
I personally prefer the full brim version, but I like to use this version when I weld, good video and stay safe out there from a glazier
jonathan aldana thanks man! And I have a full brim laying around somewhere hahaha
Local 27 glazier

Never understood why ironworkers wear hard hats... I mean, what are they protecting??
Hard hat saves me all the time I’ve bumped my head on beams that were on the hook over my head... or shoot the hook and rigging that’s hit me in the hard hat... they definitely help haha
@@ChantzFabz it was a joke and a friendly jab, tongue in cheek... suggesting that iron workers aren't very smart. Lol... your response is perfect. Stay safe brother.
@@benhershberger6921 hahahaha I gotta stay politically correct over here
Haha funny stuff but same with trees it’s for small stuff anything serious hat won’t help but little things it’ll really save you from a bad day
1. Why are you wearing the brim forward? 2. You didn't mention US Steel, or American Bridge. When Iron first went up in Chicago these became the issued hardhats (so the cool factor/old school), out of these companies. It is the same today. Every trade in USS wears these. 3. My wife is seeing me watch this, and things you look like me 10 years ago.....lol. 4. Thank you for your posts. This is very helpful to new guys. Stay safe Bro.
Hey i jus had my hard hat signed by Bernie Kosar who is a football GOD in Cleveland ohio. I have a really big head 7 5/8 fitted cap. Im assuming getting the large liner is my go to move. Never ordered a hard hat. Ive had two in my career and both came from the contractor.
Right on that’s bad ass dude
The flipper liner is best
vanwyck niga yeah! A lot of people use em
@@ChantzFabz you guys union?

Compressor millwright here...i love these, been wearing it for the past 7 years, but i just recently switched to the dax carbon fiber and man it is super nice...it took decades but i think the ole skullgard may have finally been outdone
I would like to see a video on how they manufacture the hart hats.
coal gas is what lights. black damp is the poisen gas that chocks you to dead after the fire. my moms family mind hard coal in plymonth pa..
msa is also the only one that build a large size hat for guys like me and a small size for those who need that so they fit right.
great video man
Eddie Girvan good to know man! Thanks for the support also!🤘🏼🇺🇸🏗
Wish you could get them in different colours
How did you get those gold suspension clips on the outside of the hard hat?
Remove the plastic cap to reveal the gold rivets
@ yea i ended up finding it out on my own lol
Been wearing skull guard hard hats everyday for 9 years.
Heck yeah man what trade are you in?
@@ChantzFabz 3rd generation Chemical operator!
What size flag is in the helmet and I there a reason for the flag?
It’s just my bandana I have up in my hard hat for comfort and what not! It’s not a real flag
@@ChantzFabz I might steal that idea from you!!
I rock the full brim IUOE local 12 SoCal baby
Im 18 starting my apprenticeship as a Framer in the Union they asked me to buy a helmet I was wondering is it ok if I buy a brown helmet like one of those ? For framing or would it be weird you mentioned many trades wear em ? Thanks haha
Cesar Davila yeah you could wear one for framing I would go with a fullbrim
Chantz Fabz thanks for the help great video by the way !
Cesar Davila no problem and thanks
How about getting a large size is that better or is the large look to big ?
Well, the hack would be a nice trick except for the fact that I have a small head lol. The large headgear would be too big for me so I guess I'll have to leave it the way that it is. I've seen someone take the clips off of an old headgear put it in the hardhat and then connect the new clips to it somehow.
They sell a small hard hat. The medium liner in a small hardhat would probably work the same as the large liner in a medium
How do you mount your welding hood to your hard hat? I have the quick lok system on my fibremetal roughneck. There clunky and I dont like how it's set up
ACE_512 . I’ll make a video on it in the future but I have a few pictures with a hood on my Instagram @chantz Fabz check it out
What’s up brother, what size is that hard hat is it standard? I just got one and it was a large and I think it’s just too big for me. Usually rock the full brim but getting into these baseball cap ones. I don’t know if I should get a small or a standard size... is there much of a difference between the two?
Dominic Quiroz larges are huge!!! I rock a medium man
Awesome man thanks for the fast reply! They are huge I was thinking something was just a little off... thanks man! See you on the field some day... 41 carpenters, Seattle WA
Dominic Quiroz no problem! &&& oh yeh buddy work safe
I just got mine. Quick question, if I get the large liner/suspension will the ratchet sit way low on my neck or be similair to the standard?
tully fowler it’ll sit a little lower
It was the American Bridge standard for years
Alot good information never hear a large liner fitting a med hardhat
Thanks for sharing the experience
Andrew Smith thanks man!
I’m looking to buy the one with the swinging rachet. I’m a apprentice plumber
Luke Brouillette right on brother do it to it
Will a medium hard hat fit someone who wears a 7-5/8 hat
How about lights that fit the har
There’s a lot sorts of head lamps I’ve used a few different types
My skullgard is super dark on one side and lighter on the other. It’s about 8 years old. Anybody got any idea what causes this?
I’d like to make em match if I knew what darkens it, for some reason it bugs me that it’s all different shades of brown lol
Never mind I missed that part of the video and had to rewatch. I’m a controls electrician by trade and work inside distribution centers so that’s probably why mine darkens in spots
I have a full brim, super old school with the shoe lace around the crown to hold the old leather suspension in. Wish I could find a replacement because the leather is so old and brittle, but love it anyway. #MillwrightMafia
You can find some on eBay brother
You can find some on eBay brother
Thank god the first fuckin review of someone describing the “fit” of the liners. I hate the mf hardhat liners that make the thing sit way too high above the head. Feels and looks goofy asf like you said. Appreciate you being the only person even mentioning that aspect!😂
Hahahahahah I you like the video brotha,
Just bought mine ! Drywaller here
Joseest95 tight on welcome
Man
Joseest95 right *
How do you make your skullgard sit lower?
Change out the liner brotha
@@ChantzFabz swap it for a large? Or swap from the knob style to the staz on style
Where did u get the edge guard for ur hard hat?

Just bought my first one finally. Got tired of thw fibre metal being uncomfy as shit
Does anyone know the song?
It’s very hard to listen to this guy speak but what he is saying is interesting
Why is it hard to listen to me speak???
Am I too quiet?

Jorge Castillo the brown hard hat or my Chantz Fabz hat!? Either way there’s links for both in the description
thanks
Jorge Castillo no problem let me know if you have any other questions
Many electrcians I worl with rock these hardhats some brimmed some non brimmed.
I used a traditional hard hat for years, but I switched over to a kask super plasma helmet. It’s so much better. But all the guys on the job think I’m a gear diva now 💅
Baiku Baiku ive never heard of a mask super plasma I’ll look it up
I’m not a fan how do you put a welding hood on it
Chantz Fabz you can not attach a welding hood to it. It’s a “at height work safety helmet” we use them in the cell tower erection/technician industry, I don’t think any iron worker would ever wear them.
Chantz Fabz I have seen some workers from CEMEX wear them though while doing a big concrete pour.
Baiku Baiku awhhhh gotcha gotcha
Light wait and more cooler than the plastic one they get to hot for me
What size is the medium one
I don’t exactly know but if you ask the store or look at the discription I’m sure it’ll say
Great vids.
Thanks you! Subscribe for more!:)
Does anyone know how long it takes for it to get darker?
Manuel G it’s all about the sun man
Is that a medium hard hat skullgard?
jacedison yes sir
Chantz Fabz it couldn’t upload the link for hard hat you put down on this video. Do I purchased the skullgard cap style hat. But it seem a little to small on my head. So I was thinking of getting a large size hard hat?? I ordered the old school hack(large hack) you provided down below the video. But, I wanted to get the large hard hat. Cause the medium looked way small on my head. Could you please please provide the same style skullgard hard hat but in a large? I’m having a hard time finding out the difference. Anything helps! Thanks and I liked and subscribe.
jacedison let me do some searching I’ll update my description
Chantz Fabz ok, thank you
The new ones look orange to me.
Millwright here, there's a reason there still the gold standard.

That and the high heat Fibre-Metal Roughneck are the hard hats of Local 40... and the rest of the east coast. 👍🏼
Kelvin Williams yep!!! Lots of hands here also!!! I just hate that all the other trades wear em... hahah Don’t get me wrong we need all trades but Ironworkers do the craziest stuff and I think we deserve to stand out
Just got into construction, mostly working with asphalt. Wanted the heat resistance plus my boss used to work mining projects. Coolest hat on site imo, I’ll earn my color..
Good hard hat started my iron work journey with one of these. Upgrade to a Bullard 502 #local433
