  • A detailed review and demonstration of my topper hoist. This set up is a must for anyone that removes there topper more than once a year. It takes less than 6 minutes to remove my topper from start to finish with only one person.

    If you really want to make it ultimate you could install rack tracks on top of the shell and hook to those. That would eliminate the 2x4s and having to crawl inside the camper shell to feed them accross. The racks are also great for camper top storage if needed.

  • @hudini2356
    @hudini2356 5 місяців тому +2

    2 years later... ARE recommends you don't lift by the outer edge alone. If you add 2x4 blocks on your cross brace to fit the part that sits on the bed it would eliminate warping or cracking the edge of the topper. Cool setup though.

    I've watched a several videos researching for my next topper lift. You have a very clean and effective design and a design that reduces loads (4 corners) and looks super clean. The spliced rope is very clean look. Looking forward to getting mine built next week. Had to make some adjustments bc that hoist you're using is now $170! so I'll be using an Amazon PA800 instead, which is under $100. My topper might stay in place longer so I think I will add some additional hooks for redundancy and add ratcheting straps to hold it in place when left longer than a weekend. Thanks for sharing your design!

    Looks like a great design, I'm stealing it thank you. My travel on the lines will be 5'6" because my trusses are 12 feet high. The winch will have to be a little further away due to that but all I need now are some 7" U-bolts to mount the winch and a couple more eyebolts.

    Love the setup and need to do the same.
    So how much rope was needed?
    I may be going with cable for cost reasons unless I can’t find less expensive way to do the rope. Also unfortunately that winch is going for more like $129 now but they have other less expensive options.

    • @9NailzGarage
      @9NailzGarage  3 роки тому

      I think in total I used about 50 feet, cable would be a heck of a lot easier and it’ll probably have less resistance too. Keep checking for Harbor Freight’s super coupons. That’s how I got this one for cheap. It’s the cheapest 120v winch I could find anywhere. Good luck with your set up, your back will thank you!

    so, where can one find the design / specs in terms of pulley layout and distance etc? I know I would have to scale it up as I have an 8' bed with cap on it but yours looks so well done, I didn't want to just eye ball it. Thank you

    • @9NailzGarage
      @9NailzGarage  Рік тому

      The only difference should be moving the two front eyes forward a little bit, I’d try to keep the hooks about 6 feet apart from front to back and about a foot total wider than your topper. Hope this helps. Good luck with yours!

    Nice setup. Does that winch connect to a 110V outlet? How did you connect the power since the winch usually connects to car battery?

    • @9NailzGarage
      @9NailzGarage  2 роки тому

      Yes it’s 110v, comes with a regular plug that just plugs right into a regular outlet. I installed an outlet right behind the winch to hide the wires.

    This seems to be the easiest setup it looks great without the wires. I really like the splicing of the rope. I have never seen this before and I am looking forward to trying. How did you determine the length of the rope? Is it based off the center of what you are lifting? Sorry I am not a builder. I am looking to lift my 10ft Jon Boat to the ceiling in my outdoor carport.

    • @dougschneider5568

    • @9NailzGarage
      @9NailzGarage  Рік тому

      Thank you! I like the look of the ropes, it makes it look clean and complete. It can be a little time consuming splicing the ropes, there’s plenty of UA-cam videos to help with out with that. I figured the length out with a little trial and error and some cheaper string. Hope this helps, good luck with yours!

    I am about to build the same setup, but i will not be able to reinforce the joist. I have a room over the garage and can not access the joist. They should be 2×10s at least since it has a second story.

  • @cornfields-crosshairs4182
    @cornfields-crosshairs4182 2 роки тому

    Hello..👋 Thanks for sharing this simple yet, effective design. I'm down with it. Question though....why the cluster of pulleys on the ceiling more towards one side instead of spanning out directly from center of topper? Do the cords ride the side of the topper while raising??🤷🏻‍♂️ Am I on the right track or?? Is there no specific reason why you patterned those pulleys on the ceiling as such?🤔

    • @9NailzGarage
      @9NailzGarage  2 роки тому +7

      Hello! Thats a great question Im surprised no one else has asked! The reason for the pulley cluster in the center is to allow room for the winch cable to move as its so close to the actual hoist, without the cluster the winch would only be able to raise the topper a few inches as the rear pulleys are too close to the winch. The cluster essentially creates more distance between the rear pulleys allowing for a few feet of travel. Hope this helps!

    do your beams really need to be re-enforced? i'm thinking about my overweight parents sitting on their porch swing without any issue, also the pulley system should distribute the weight much better? thanks for the video my wife and I plan on using your video to do this for our garage!

    • @9NailzGarage
      @9NailzGarage  3 роки тому +2

      I think the construction of your rafters determines if it needs to be reinforced or not. I have a hip roof which doesn’t have the strength of trusses. Also the center plate where all the pulleys come together was reinforced otherwise the OSB wouldn’t be able to support it. When in doubt reinforcement will never hurt, all depends on your design, this is just an example. Good luck with your hoist, your back will thank you!
