Huh, while I still prefer 2021 over all and would listen to my favourites from that year over my favourites from this year, my final results were the opposite of yours, 17-21. I think the issue is partly that songs that I don’t particularly care about this year were up against songs I dislike from last year and songs from this year I don’t care about were up against songs I love from last year. So a lot of pretty close matchups ended up in 2022’s favour while 2021 has some very clear victories.

As someone who does very in-depth musical analysis on the aspects of songwriting, vocals, and lyricism, across a great variety of genres, figured it'd be interesting to do something a little more fun and laid back like this. On quality overall: 2021 16 - 18 2022 On preference: 2021 20 - 16 2022 Comment: 2021 had much weaker non-qualifiers, which in the end swung the quality total in 2022's way, whilst a few key high quality entries in each of the Grand Finals (Latvia, Iceland, Cyprus) nullified oneanother. Strictly versus'ing the qualities of each year's final's songs, 2021 is by far the better contest, something that such head-to-head ranking list will never show. Similarly, since this is taking into account only the idealized entries, 2022 got away scot-free from having significantly more worse performances live, the disparity probably in the double digits. As someone who does very in-depth musical analysis on the aspects of songwriting, vocals, and lyricism, across a great variety of genres, figured it'd be interesting to do something a little more fun and laid back like this.

2021 had much weaker non-qualifiers, which in the end swung the quality total in 2022's way, whilst a few key high quality entries in each of the Grand Finals (Latvia, Iceland, Cyprus) nullified oneanother. Strictly versus'ing the qualities of each year's final's songs, 2021 is by far the better contest, something that such head-to-head ranking list will never show. Similarly, since this is taking into account only the idealized entries, 2022 got away scot-free from having significantly more worse performances live, the disparity probably in the double digits.
