      Since 1979?? Wow. That's an early adopter for sure. I've had mine since 2007 and couldn't be without it either. So much so I joined the company in 2017 soon after they launched it in the US. My boys grew up with it back in Portugal where we are from and are both fully independent in the kitchen. Taking the load of mommy here to be the only cook. They actually don't conceive not having one. It's like not having a dishwasher.

I must say I haven’t tried coconut milk in it yet. Have you tried making the butter? It’s amazing . As for flours, in December I’ll be publishing the classic British mince pie in time for Christmas. Great review Richie! Full disclaimer before my comment, I am a Thermomix employee in the US.
    Regarding cookidoo cost, mind you it's not just downloading a few bytes of information. Thermomix has dedicated teams of professional chefs in many countries developing those recipes for Thermomix. At the time you did this review there were 45k recipes. There are now, 10 months after, over 74k. Adding new ones every month at no additional cost, for a yearly subscription around the price of 1 good cookbook. In addition, you can use your thermomix without cookidoo in manual mode much like it used to be before cookidoo existed a few years back. Hope you are enjoying your thermomix more everyday. Keep up the great work with your UA-cam channel.

      @Marta Serano thanks so much for the nice comment. I do admit, at the time of filming this review, I would have been slightly naive regarding Cookidoo. After almost 1 year of owning the machine, I can clearly see the work that goes into Cookidoo. As you say, it is always updated with new recipes and not left to go stale. Either way, I absolutely love this machine, and feel this review has helped Vorwerk sell a unit or two :)
      Again, thanks for supporting my channel and taking the time to comment, it is very much appreciated. Do keep in touch with all things Thermomix! RTF

    Yes. I've had mine for over 20 years! I can cook (and my son's a chef) and I've lived in Italy for over 40 years, where it's always been very popular. It saves so much time. For example, things like polenta, risotto, bechamel/roux which normally need constant stirring...you just set it up, set the time and temperature and it calls you when it's finished. In the meantime you've done other things. And a friend f mine who can't cook to save her like was so happy to be given one when she had a baby, as she could make all the baby food she needed quickly and properly despite having no idea how to make it!

      I don’t want to over sell this, but like you’ve said, this thing is a kitchen life changer. The risotto is so easy and I think is restaurant standard. I haven’t tried polenta in mine yet, but you’ve certainly got me thinking. And it makes baby food? Who knew? Certainly didn’t! Thanks again for stopping by 🙋🏻‍♂️😀RTF

    You see all these positive reviews, and I do think it's a great kitchen device, (even though many people - not here maybe - got their unit for free in order to do the review.) My bottom line opinion is that its cost/benefit ratio is highly variable depending on each individual's personal situation. This includes aspects such as cooking skills/enjoyment, available time, financial, and depth/breadth of cuisine interest. For me, the 1-2 hours I spend every night cooking dinner after doing complex tasks in front of two computer monitors all day is my mental Yoga because I love to cook, from scratch, and most of the time, without a recipe. I love the feel of the knife in my hand. I love the challenge of having 2-3 things cooking on the stovetop at once. Now if I were someone that had other interests I wanted to free up time for and didn't enjoy cooking as a hobby, and a $1,500 USD counter-top high-tech kitchen device is within my budget, this could be a Godsend. Overall though I tend to think in our modern world we all have a bias towards liking new technology and exaggerating, at least a little, its actual life benefit.

    • @RichieTheFoodie
      @RichieTheFoodie  3 роки тому +14

      @Jeff C wow, what an in-depth review/comment. Thanks for taking the time to write it.
      Firstly, as much as I’d like one of these babies for free, I had to pay for mine. It came highly recommended from a friend of mine.
      I also love to cook from scratch, as you can see on my cooking channel. There’s nothing better than opening a bottle of wine and getting stuck into cooking a good winter warmer. I bought mine for ease of use on the week. My wife isn’t a confident cook, but she is with the TM6. She’ll happily cook dinner when I’m running late at work.
      It’s also great for a lot of forms of prep, which saves time too. I agree, it’s a hefty amount to pay out, but I think on the whole, it’s more than worth it.
      Thanks again mate, and thanks for interacting with my channel. I hope you might like some of my other cooking content😀

      @@RichieTheFoodie since you have every other appliance, we in the U.S. have access to a multi cooker by Cuckoo that you'd LOVE. I bought them for my cousins, two of whom already own Instant Pots, and they prefer the Cuckoo (although its orientation uses more counter real estate). It's the CMC-ASB601F, A60 Premium Series and you can see demos here on UA-cam of its smaller model (they recently made a larger, six-quart model available, which is what we in the family all have). They're made in Korea and are of much nicer quality than similar units made in China. It's RIGHT up your alley!

    Great review and I learnt a lot from this and the following Beef Madras review. Our TM6 is on order as our 40th Wedding Anniversary present to ourselves so we will call her Ruby. I'm an experienced cook who has lost interest in spending hours peeling, slicing, dicing, chopping, blending and grinding. We've also ordered the new potato peeler which replaces the plastic cover. This way my retired husband is now keen to cook too! I've subscribed.

    I’m considering … so is there much difference between the TM5 and the TM6, ? I might go for a second hand TM5 if it makes sense .
    Another question , is there less particulate in the air this way than traditional cooking?

    • @RichieTheFoodie
      @RichieTheFoodie  8 місяців тому +2

      I haven’t owned a TM5 if I’m being honest. I do know that the main difference is the built in WiFi, the Cookidoo connection and guided/cook along recipes. The other main difference is the increase in temperature meaning you can work with sugar and also stir fry meat and vegetables etc.
      As for particulate, I’d say it’s about the same as traditional cooking

    @RichieTheFoodie Cheers! What an exceptional video. Thanks for the Thermomix demo. I am definitely thinking of getting one. Is the machine with the jar heavy? I did not understand when you said that to get recipes an annuity needs to be paid. This mean that we can't grab Thermomix recipes from the internet to add them in our Thermomix? Now I understand, what in fact Thermomix wants is for customers to spend money on the cookido. So, that's why they don't allow us to grab recipes from the internet, correct? By the way do u know the TOKIT? Well the machine is made and assembly in China the recipes (cookido) are completely free. So what are the difference now? Thermomix is triple the price than the TOKIT, cookido must be payed anual y or monthly and most important thing they say it “MADE IN GERMANY” but in fact I bet u that is not made in Germany, it was designed by a German person yes and it is also assembled in Germany. But now, tell me where does every little peace to assembled the machine are coming from, China, am I correct? Or they built every piece in Germany?

    Hi I just found your channel! Thank you for this review, it was very helpful, I'm debating about one of these particularly when I return to work from maternity leave. I enjoy cooking (by no stretch of the imagination would I say I'm a great cook though) so this would definitely be helpful. My rational though is because I'm quite time poor. Curious as its so high tech is there a timer function you can set for it to switch on? I ask because while I have a slow cooker it only gives you a 3-7 window, and often I'm much later coming home from work... Often to an overcooked or ruined dinner!

    • @RichieTheFoodie
      @RichieTheFoodie  3 роки тому +2

      @Andrea. Hello! I’m certainly glad that you stumbled across my channel 😀 You’re very welcome, I really enjoyed filming it, and pleased it’s helped you and lots of others make a decision to make one of the best purchases you’ll ever make (no exaggeration)
      Unfortunately, there is currently no timer to turn the machine on. There are regular software updates though, so I wouldn’t rule it out in future. I tend to use the TM6 to batch cook and freeze, ready for a busy week. For example, I’m publishing my TM6 chilli tomorrow. It serves 6 and freezes really well. The beef madras on my channel is another dish that freezes well.
      The TM6 will save you time either way. You can knock up a quality dish in 30 minutes and you don’t have to constantly watch over it, stirring, adjusting heat etc. It does it all for you. Plus there’s hardly no washing up to do. If you’re time poor, I really can’t recommend this machine enough, and I’m not a Thermomix advisor, I’m completely neutral.
      Get one on order 😀 May I thank you for commenting and supporting my channel, I really appreciate it. If there’s anything more I can do to help, please ask away, it’s no trouble. If you decide to buy one, definitely let me know how it goes.
      Thanks 😀👍🏻 RTF

      @@HotVoodooWitch @RichieTheFoodie while I understand your comments and points around it being expensive (especially given the machine itself costs you a pretty penny) and I'm not trying to say that both of you are wrong with my following points, I do feel like I need to make two counterpoints/follow-ups:
      1. We happily pay $15 AUD (~10 GBP) a month for something like Netflix, so my first point I guess would be what's 30 GBP a year? I realise it's not really comparing apples to apples, but at the end of the day like Richie pointed out above, it's all content creation and I think that's mainly what you're paying for. From what I understood, Cookidoo is constantly adding new recipes are they not?
      2. Like you say in your video, Richie, you're not streaming hundreds of gigs for the recipes, but again correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding was that the biggest benefit you get for the Cookidoo recipes is the built-in "wizard" functionality of the TM6, is it not? In other words the on-screen prompts and interactive instructions. Sure I can use any recipe I can find anywhere, but then I'd have to figure out how to do it with the TM myself. My point is: this is where I think the TM starts to absolutely shines is when you combine it with the Cookidoo recipes to get all of that convenience. Click on recipe, do what it says on the screen, and presto, out comes your meal. I'd happily pay 30 GBP a year for that!
      Anyway, thanks for the amazingly detailed and honest review, Richie. The wife and I are seriously considering getting hold of one of these and you've cleared up a lot of questions I had.

      @@RichieTheFoodie the TM5 has chips that contain the contents of recipe books; you attach them on the side and you're guided through recipes on its (smaller-than-the-TM6's) screen. There's a larger Cuckidoo chip that allows online access to the Cuckidoo site (IOW Bluetooth isn't built into the unit, unlike the TM6), plus you were able to load the contents of your other chips to your Cuckidoo account FOR A RIDICULOUSLY BRIEF WINDOW OF TIME. 😡 I couldn't find the chip that was bundled with the machine (although I still have its hard cover recipe book), so I Iost the ability to load it to Cuckidoo. That and the high annual Cookidoo dues REALLY pissed me off. I'm going to upgrade to the TM6 (I'm passing the TM5 along to a friend) but there's a side of me that still loves my trusty Canadian TM31 best of all. @Jondrew55 - yes it is indeed expensive, and yes, you need a subscription to access cookidoo. You get 12-18 months free in most countries though. The subscription mainly pays for recipe updates. There are 1000’s of recipes and more added each week. If the subscription service folds? I doubt that would happen but you never know. I'm taking a serious look at this in the United States. I don't think it will ever replace a Hobart mixer, but I'm betting that it will make it a lot easier for more difficult recipes that require precise temperatures and mixing times, such as hollandaise sauce, tempered chocolate, cream brulee and other recipes that require expensive ingredients and are highly sensitive. I am banking on the possibility that the cost of ingredients will greatly exceed the cost of this machine over time, and it will pay for its self in the reduced potential for food waste. And then there's the added possibility of more experimentation for recipes. One can certainly hope for the best!

    • @RichieTheFoodie
      @RichieTheFoodie  3 роки тому +2

      You’ve made some very good points there, and you’re exactly right. Creme patisserie for example, comes out perfect. Hollanadaise, as you mentioned is a breeze. Perfect every time, and because it’s taking care of the heat, you can focus on other parts of the dish, knowing the tm6 has your back.
      You’d probably use it for a lot more than you think you would, I use mine every day and couldn’t imagine my kitchen life without it now.
      I used it to cook a creme brulee on my channel. It Might make an interesting watch for you.

      @@RichieTheFoodie I'll plan on using it for combination dishes, like a salmon/soup/potato recipe. With salmon at $9.00 per pound, the food is not cheap so I am not going to want to take a chance of it not turning out right. For items that will cause premature wear to the blades of this machine, such as nut butters, I'll continue to use my Robot Coupe for those (they're simple and quick anyway) to extend the Thermomix's life. I am also betting that cold recipes like a cheese ball would be better done in a heavy mixer. For slicing and dicing, the food processor can team with the Thermomix, allowing me to let the Thermomix do a few tasks while I focus on preparing other ingredients with my other tools. There is nothing cheap about good equipment. This is an investment, like buying stocks and precious metals. The payoff is over time.

    • @RichieTheFoodie
      @RichieTheFoodie  3 роки тому +1

      It certainly sounds like you have an extensive collection of kitchen gadgets, and I think the TM6 would be a worthy new member. I believe the blade is very durable and relatively inexpensive to replace. The TM6 is built well, so it will make a great workhorse.
      I sometimes feel like I big this machine up a bit too much in my comments, but it’s that good, it’s difficult not to. I hope you invest in one, and I’d be very interested to know your thoughts, both positive and negative once you become accustomed to it.

      @Debbie Milner Yes, sure, you absolutely can. I believe there was a function you could only use in Cookidoo. Recent software updates have changed that. If there are functions you can’t manually use, I’m unaware. It would help to use Cookidoo recipes to familiarise yourself with the TM6 functions before attempting your own recipes, like the varoma function for example.
      There’s also a glossary in the book explaining each function and settings to help you use it for your own recipes. Please check out my chicken in mushroom sauce, which is my own recipe in the tm6.

    My friend just bought it yesterday in Germany. She talked about it for years, always wanted to buy one and now, since we can't do holidays, she decided to go for that little gadget out of her holiday funds. She paid a whooping promotional €1399, instead of €1496 😳 so much more than here in the UK. I am thinking of it. But I'm worried about the size. It's only 2.2L, so not massive. Obviously you have the steaming basket as well and it has 3L. And also I have a question, since I'm Polish, can you change languages on it? Not that I'm struggling with English but it would be great to read the recipes in my mother tongue. And I was wondering, if they have any Polish recipes 🤔 I own an Instanpot, and I love it but it's not as versatile as this one. Nice review by the way! Keep it up 👍

      @Taxi Maxi thanks for you nice comment. I fully appreciate each and every one I receive.
      Wow! That is expensive, and in honesty, if it was that price in the U.K and I had to replace mine, I’d pay it.
      Yes, the bowl isn’t massive, but a lot of the recipes serve up to 6 people, generously, I’d say 4-5 though, so it depends on how large your family is
      I’m sure you can’t change the machine’s language, but I just checked Cookidoo here on my iPad, and you have options to filter countries when you search recipes. For example I searched ‘chicken’ and filtered Poland and I got two matches in Polish, so they are there, but there aren’t many. Anyway, your English is fine!
      I’d definitely buy one if you can! Thanks for your support, and I hope you subscribed to the foodie family. Tell your friends too 😁

      You can absolutely change the language to Polish in your settings. In addition cookidoo has recipes from many countries including Poland so you will have native, traditional recipes from Poland, developed by polish chefs for Thermomix. Tons of pirogui recipes ;)

      To be clear; the recipes within Cookidoo (what a terrible name), will appear in their native language. I'm unsure of the number of languages available. Suffice to say, it will not translate a Polish recipe to English, for example.

    What's the difference between the TM5 and TM6?

    • @RichieTheFoodie
      @RichieTheFoodie  3 роки тому +2

      There are many differences, Drew. The TM6 screen is bigger. The onboard processor and RAM is quicker. There are far more features on the TM6 including the ability to sous vide cook. The biggest difference is the Cookidoo app, which I describe in the video. I hope this helps, any more questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for commenting
