Ty for the rly complete & helpful review!! I just got myself a Black Base Camp in XS but was rly indesicive between XS and S. You just reassured me tht XS can rly fit alot 🤩
Just saw the video from 5 years ago before seeing this one. Lots of improvement. Just got the 50L duffel a few weeks ago but decided to get this one too hoping I can sneak it on some flights as a personal item
Great review. for me in addition to all the pros, mentioned biggest thing was being able to take it as a carry-on with the airlines because this comment is now three years later really cracking down on carry-on luggage. This is just small enough like you said to be a personal item. It’s not overpowering so it’s not going to be checked as opposed to other carry-ons that have the wheels and the handles that most airlines will start forcing people now to check. As the airlines are cracking down on carry-ons
I am going to buy this bag as a complement to a 25L backpack for longer trips. I wish there was a bit of a medium between this and the size S, which is 50L. I would love to see a ~36L version for just a little extra space.
Thanks for the review! I'm looking into purchasing this size bag and was wondering if this would work as a personal item on plane. Does it fit nicely under the seats?
I have the same question! I already have a Duffel S that I use as carry on, flying here in Europe without no problem, but I'm wondering if this model or the Duffel XS can be use as personal item to fit under the seat?
Hey Mark Polo! Unfortunately, can’t say it’s waterproof but I feel it safe to say weather resistant 🙂. It is an awesome bag, highly recommend. Take care!
I believe the sides and material is waterproof but the zipper are not so it doesn’t get classified as waterproof. I think weather resistant would be accurate
Great review Chris. I agree with you about the material. You just know your stuff won't be getting out. Got a couple, got one for my partner and she loved it. Well worth the money and it just looks great.
Hey Chris, another great video! I actually bought two of these bags (one for myself and one for my wife) about a month or two ago. While we haven't used them for plane travel yet, they are awesome! We've used them for a couple overnighters and they were amazing - we were able to pack more than enough stuff and some. Like you, my only "con" is the small external pocket. Like the small version I find if you stuff the bag it really impedes the already limited space there is in it.
Do you think that I can use this for an 3-4 days trip? I had the s but it’s too much and I used it for trips with 8-10 or even more days Great video Chris
Can you give a link to the packing cube and the red thing and the mesh bag for the dirty clothes thanks you rock and your compression jacket as well 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Hey T Santos! Great question, it depends : ). If I only wanted 1 bag for travel, gym, etc. I would go with the Base Camp S. If you have any other bag to compliment the Base Camp XS, I would go with the XS. I might go XS anyway, unless you do longer trips without access to washer/dryer. I absolutely love the XS, as you can probably tell : ). I haven’t had the opportunity to use the S as a carry on, but I would personally not hesitate to do so. Take care!
I agree chris i bought then north face xs returned it and went with the osprey transporter 40 after watching your other video i used that for the last 6 months with on and off travel ive now ordered the north face xs again what ive noticed with a 40 liter its not quite small enough for daily use gym weekend trips etc but not quite big enough for the extra extended trips id say for a minimalist like myself you and go on a 2 week trip with the base camp xs as long as you are willing to do laundry
I just bought the Duffel XS second hand. I'll use it as a sports bag to carry gym rings, resistance bands, something to drink maybe shoes… or whatever i need for that days session. Do you think it's sturdy enough to carry a dumbbell or kettlebell with it? Like 10-15kg?
If you want sternum and hip straps, get a backpack. The backpack straps on these NF duffels are for short term moving the bags around camp, etc., thus the name "Base Camp".
The bag should have a sternum strap for travel the main reason I got a osprey transporter 40 is because of the sternum strap and I've seen many people not purchase this bag for the same reason its ALMOST the perfect bag
Awesome video!! Can you remove one of strap, then take the other one and unhook one of the end and hook that unhook to the one you remove to form a cross strap?
Hi Tracey! Thank you!!! Great Question. I feel the length of strap wouldn't be long enough for most, plus the backpack strap padding doesn't move so may be uncomfortable. I actually uploaded a video about the backpack straps a while back if you're interested in checking it out, ua-cam.com/video/8AMbo1nIrzY/v-deo.html. Take care!
No external pockets = no one trying to steal your gear. My bags just go from Car to hotel or airport. Not walking round all day so don’t need external pockets.
Ha, I think it's somewhere in between, but maybe closer to 34(ish). I l also have the Marmot Long Hauler Small(35L) and the bags are very similar in size. The Marmot is a bit larger, but the difference is barely noticeable. Hope this helps : )
Thank you for the review! 3 years later and still the best :)

how was your experience with this bag as a personal item on flights?
Great long term review.
Pulled the trigger after watching. Bought two - one for the wife and I.
Just wondering if you can use if the straps are long enough to use it over the shoulder like a duffle bag? Thank you great review.

Thanks for the review this made me buy TNF Suede Supreme bag

I agree. Something between xs ans s would be perfect!
Great view and super helpful visuals and opinions - Thanks for sharing!

great review chris, really helpful and a well made video 😊
Thanks for the video Chris, I have seen this bag at the airport many times and was curious about it, looks like a great bag.
Hey meracol! Even being a "smaller" bag it's one of my favorites. Thanks for your comment!
Thanks for your video and your time, Chris! Greetings from Switzerland.
Another great video! Thanks Chris. Keep up the good work!
Hey NorseRanger! Thank you so much!!!
Hi sir , i want to ask . All of that you pack in that bag , it can still fit a 1 pair shoes? Thank you
Great review mate! Wasn´t sure but now I am. Ordering one today
WATERPROOF???! Please say yes! Awesome video man thank you looks like perfect size for me!

Hey Chris when you get the chance, can you review the new 'Voyager' duffle from TNF?

Hey Speeding777! Great to hear from you! Awesome to hear you like the bag. This is the one bag I'll keep forever. Hope all is well!

Thanks for the review mate. Just wanted to ask if the bag itself is light? Considering buying one for myself after watching ur reviews. Cheers!
Great videos Chris! Do you prefer the Base Camp XS over the S? Any issues bringing the S on board as a carry on?

Hey! I would like to know which one is fit for an airplane? S or XS?
Hi! Sorry for my delayed response. XS for personal item, under seat, and S for carry on.
What colour did you pic
I have the M size and all i can say is that after an hour of usage your back and shoulder will get hurt
so when you want to use it as an actual duffle you just double strap it , is there a center strap
Love the colour just can’t find it on the wensite
Hi! Sorry for my delayed response. Sadly I think this is a discontinued color.

Thank you Poacher!
Would this work as a basketball back pack to carry sport stuff around?
I think it's good for the gym, not exactly sure how much a ball player packs but I'd say size S would be better.
Damn I love that colour way and it’s killing me that I can’t find it in that anymore. (In the uk). Damn
Which color is this?
Thanks, this was helpful
Awesome, thank you!
Сумка классная , но почему у нее нет рукояток и плечевого ремня !? Неужели нельзя было сделать быстросъемные плечевые лямки , странно.
No external pockets = no one trying to steal your gear. My bags just go from
Car to hotel or airport. Not walking round all day so don’t need external pockets.
One external pocket is fine also you don't have to put anything in there
Is it ok to use it as a small bag on ryanair?
Yes no problem. I've used to travel to Belgium and Germany on Ryanair.
Thanks,
So you think it’s 31L , or 34L??? Haha!Seems like it can fit more...as you and others mentioned, the manufacturer can mislabel the actual capacity...!
Ha, I think it's somewhere in between, but maybe closer to 34(ish). I l also have the Marmot Long Hauler Small(35L) and the bags are very similar in size. The Marmot is a bit larger, but the difference is barely noticeable. Hope this helps : )
This guy from Georgia?🤔
