I'm the older "son" in this parable. My brother suddenly quit our family business, leaving me and my father to scramble and pick up the pieces. He now wants to come back. He gave us a teeny tiny apology. But It's hard for me to forgive and welcome him back without any accountability. I'm ready to move on and separate myself 😔

You completely missed the point. We do know what happened after that. The father told the older son, "All that I have is thine." The father threw a party for the younger son and gave him a ring, but the son had already been given his half. The older son now gets all that remains while the younger son only gets one ring. The son is forgiven, but the older son now has huge advantages going forward. He has been rewarded. The message is that while sins can be forgiven, staying true will always get you ahead.

No, the parable is all about repentance, humility and acceptance of God’s love and mercy. The older son, was like the Pharisee who has pride in his good works and as we know Jesus was rejected by the Pharisees.

The parable is about the fact that to sin you must repent, the sons reflect two halves of the father, one son has to leave and experience the world whilst the other was not exposed. To be complete the father must reconcile the two.

No. If that were true, the father had no right to give away the ring or the party or the calf. The father was being poetic when he said that. Older son doesn't get his till the father died. I'm betting the father split the inheritance again, so loser son didn't go hungry yet again. Someone always bails him out.

I'm the younger son. I just lost my dad 9 days ago. It wasn't so much like this story but the general jest is the same. I'm 28 now, but when I was 21 I moved out to Colorado, ended up getting hooked on drugs, didnt spend all his money on drugs, but all the money him and my mom's gave me. I Ended saying when I was home, finally back in his love, before I admitted my addiction to him, that i wanted to stay home and missed my flight back to Colorado. From there he was so happy I decided to stay, cause his little baby boy was home to stay not just vist, he held that happy feeling even though he knew something was under my skin in a sense.
I ended up telling him and put my old father through hell as him and my older brother battled with all my mental issues that lead me to the thing that should not be. I was beginning to have cold feet on the drug, said one more time and that's it (like always) then in the middle of my drug induced stupor, I got the call that my great aunt had died. She was battling bone cancer for a long time. I was high for the whole ride from California to Utah to pay my respects. I was just coming down the mountain drug wise right before withdraw set in and saw her laying there in the coffin. Knowing that I could very well, be there in a casket if I wasn't careful on my wild nights. I unraveled entirely.
Death is a hard thing for me. And when I finally got back to my father's house I told him I listened to everything he said and vowed to never touch the substance again. I haven't in 7 years, still going strong. I couldnt live in my father's neck of the woods any more. Call it a mortal fear. I stayed in his home for another 3 years. It killed him and me to go again and he had so much worry that 'youd start looking for answers again at the bottom of a pipe, son". It was also he did want me to be so far away from him again. But I had to leave and think deep down he knew that and was proud of me for cutting my own path, the right way this time.
Moral of my story, for a man who dosent believe in a pie-in-the-sky god.. 'Cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known'... Call your parents right now, you got this far in my story, might as well at this point. Tell your parents you love them. Thank them for everything the laughs, the hugs, the good times, the hard times, the Times that seem to never end, the talks, the caring, the bad and ugly times. Because in the end folks the only thing the living really has left.... Is the love that remains

But he made it easy at least a couple notches easier for his boys. I owe so much to him. Even though he can't tell me he's proud, all I can do is try to give my children better if not as good as he made it for us. He'd tell me 'it's not a competition and just be happy' but hopefully I'm the end, I can say I tried my best. Thank for your kind words. They are greatly appreciated. • @TheTadziofan

I understand this differently. NIV states that there was a famine in the country the son was in and after he spent everything, "he began to be in need". Then he made a plan "when he came to his senses" and he was set out to his father and prepared what he was going to say. The parable never says that he felt any remorse. He just made a statement that, to me, looks like a ploy just to get out of bad situation, knowing full well that he seriously messed up. Before he even said anything, his father embraced him because he was glad that his son was not really dead. There's nowhere mention of the mother, because I have a feeling that he was going to have some serious explaining to do in front of his Mom. Like where have you been all this time? If that happens today it would be 'what, not even a phone call?".

    • @danielbu2611
      @danielbu2611 Рік тому

The mother isn't mentioned because she is not important to the meaning. This is one of the "The Kingdom of God is like" stories. This parable outlines the way into the Kingdom: repentance from sin, humble service (water immersion's commitment to maintain a clear conscience) and God the Father's lavish grace and blessings (namely the Holy Spirit and an inheritance in heaven).

In Jesus kingdom a servant is exactly who we are to aspire to be
No status could be higher that that of one of The Fathers servants
It is in fact the form Jesus himself took when he came to this world
And as you point him not realizing this quite yet has to be telling us something

    • @Proactive94
      @Proactive94 2 місяці тому

@@robertwomack1411 Not quite, we are adopted children! We are children unfortunately who act like servants, because we don't quite know who we are and what was bought and paid for us in the BLOOD OF CHRIST. We operate in our own wills, and not in God;s will yet.The children of the King possess the possessions of the King. They live in the house of the king in the main palace not in the servants quarters. When they act, they act in the name of the King because they have the King's name. They are in the service of the King and care only about what the King cares about. They eat at his table. There is a big difference of being a servant as opposed to a son and daughter who are heirs to the kingdom. There are rights that the heirs have that the sevants don't. Adam fully possessed God. "He walked and talked with him in the cool of the day." He had His IMAGE and LIKENESS. He knew all the sciences of every plant, animal, the cosmos and was clothed in the Garment of God's love which is blazing light! When Adam used his will against God, he lost the Garment and saw his nakedness. His will was separated from God. In baptism the image is restored, but the likeness is still to come. "We will be like him...we will see Him as He is." This is where we came from, and where we are going. Jesus redeemed us, and in Baptism we have God's Image restored, but we still sin. When the Sanctifier comes, we will be sanctified and sin will no longer reign in us. We will have not just the IMAGE, but the IMAGE AND LIKENESS. Jesus prayed one prayer, the OUR FATHER, and in that prayer he prayed for "thy kingdom come, THEY WILL BE DONE on earth as it is in heaven..." The chaos we are living in is wills gone wild. In heaven, there is ONE WILL. Adam live IN THE WILL OF GOD. That's the difference of living in God's will, and what we have been doing in the Church which is doing God's will like servants. We are going back to OUR ORIGIN! When the Eucharistic Reign comes, the triumphant of Mary's Immaculate Heart comes, the Era of Peace comes, we will walk on earth as it is in heaven and once again possess God as He possess us, all of us united in ONE WILL and walk and talk with Him in Us in the Cool of the day. The Mass right now is a shadow of what it will be. Soon we won't have Jesus in us for 15 minutes, but He will reign in us perennially like Adam had him, but even greater. Adam did not have Mother Mary full of grace, nor did he have Jesus, Christ the King. We might be mere servants right now, but in the Eternal Now, and in what's coming, we are already children, "the here and the already, but not yet." Come Jesus, and reign in us on earth as it is in heaven! In order to know who we are, we have to know where we came from, what we fell from, and what has been paid for, and where we are going! Just had to say it all! Thank you!

What happened after the party ended? Is this son old enough to go work for himself? Did the father allow the son to sleep until noon? Or, did the son start work early in the morning as a hired servant? Did the father give him a second inheritance to replace the squandered inheritance? Or, did the father patiently teach he son about consequences of decisions and about how wealth is actually created.
The answers to these questions are important, because they show not merely whether the father has compassion for the younger son, but show how that compassion is expressed. How would Jesus answer the above questions?

The older son appears to be a good son, but on the inside he also wanted "what is mine".
The older son is also lost in a different sense.
Luke 15:31 'My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me and everything I have is yours....'
Always having the Father's loving presence and everything He has, yet the older son is still contending for "what is mine" to define his self worth and find satisfaction.
The heart of the parable is about lost and found, not about fair or wise distribution of property.
It is not only about the Father finding His beloved lost Son, but also about the sons finding in their Father and His compassion all that they will ever need or want.
    Psalm 23
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.[a]
    3 He restores my soul....

The younger son is the lost tribes of Israel who sinned then became scattered among the nations then hungry for the word of God. They accepted Jesus that is why it says "the Father ran to meet his son on the way". The young son was a liar. He could have been a servant for any rich man. But no, he ran back to daddy. And the older son, he knew what a manipulator his brother was, because he had seen this before. The sad fact is wild sons are often loved by their fathers more than the obedient son. And you can be sure that when the father died, he split the older sons inheritance in two, to give to the younger son yet again.

Out of the many possible explanations and teachings from this parable, another is Astrotheology, the study of the Gospel in the Stars.
This story would take place when the Sun (Jesus) is in Taurus (the Bull). Taurus rules the neck like Aries rules the head, so that explains the Father falling on the Son's neck. Also, he told the servants to "prepare the fatted calf" - symbology of Taurus the Bull. Putting a ring on his hand - symbology of a ring through the Bull's snout.

So it's a moral equivalent to stay home, be responsible and make good decisions etc compared to squandering your family's money on wild living? If true, it sounds like there is no point to living responsibly if there is a party at the end and complete restoration of what he squandered. I hardly think this is the point of the story. The rest of the bible is clear that you reap what you sow. I am sure the consequences were heavy for the younger son, but we are not told that part of the story for some reason.

In the parable the Father represents YAH (GOD) and the two sons represent the two kingdoms of Israel, the northern and the southern kingdoms. The prodigal son represents the southern kingdom that went astray. The Prodigal Son is a representation of the the 10 sons of Jacob/Isreal (the northern tribes), who went astray as a whole after the whore of Babylon. The parable is about the 12 tribes of Israel, after they split into two nations in war against each other. They became the northern kingdom and the southern kingdom. The northern kingdom (10 tribes) went in the ways of the heathens/Babylonian nations, while the southern kingdom (2 tribes) stayed true to YAH/GOD. The two southern tribes was Benjamin and Judah, and YAHUSHA (Jesus) was from the tribe of Judah, the southern kingdom.

Forgiveness, to a certain extent, only leads to the world walking all over your emotions. Truthfully and coldly put, no one cares. Jesus might, but no one else does. Nobody cares about anything unless if they are going through the problem they face themselves. I can't feel compassion for those who lack reasoning and understanding. It's these same individuals who call themselves the "better people", but they are far from better. In fact, they are about as equal to us, if not worse. Such weaklings don't deserve to be called God's people if they don't have the heart to show UNCONDITIONAL LOVE instead of UNREQUITED LOVE. Read that again.

Two sons, one conscientious and loyal, the other manipulative and selfish. So, the selfish one manipulates the father into giving him his share of a future inheritance (part of which inheritance will be earned by the older brother). The older son now has more work to do because the younger has buggered off, so, when the younger son returns what does the father do? Give the younger son the older son's wedding gift, of course. The parable is really about manipulative people and how the easily hoodwinked naive never learn. The whole stuff about it being some great story of righteousness in finding forgiveness is BS. The prodigal son does not return because he has learned the error of his ways, he returns because he has spent everything, and the reason he goes back is for more - which he promptly receives.

well said. maybe younger son should be accepted back but he should work for his acceptance. if that was a true story i would bet the younger son did the same again soon after feast was gone.

Sorry, but the Lost sheep is ONLY Israel..HIS PEOPLE that were slaves in Egypt, Greece(Joel 3:6), Babylon, Rome, Persia, USA and the Caribbean, due to disobedience to His Commandments that He gave to them and promised that if they didnt keep them, He would send them into slavery.
Deuteronomy 28:37 "37 "And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among ALL nations whither the Lord shall lead thee."
Deuteronomy 28:48 "48 Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the Lord shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a YOKE OF IRON UPON THY NECK(SLAVERY)*, until he have destroyed thee."
Deuteronomy 28:64" And the Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the Lord shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
66 And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:"( DO ANY OF THIS SOUNDS FAMILIAR TO YOU...? OR GIVE YOU EVEN THE SLIGHTEST IDEA WHICH NATION OF PEOPLE IS BEING TALKED ABOUT HERE IN THESE SCRIPTURES??
Matthew 15:24 24 "But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the LOST SHEEP OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL."
CLEARLY, HE tells us WHO the "Lost Sheep" is.
Acts 5:31 (KJV)31" Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for TO GIVE REPENTANCE TO ISRAEL, and forgiveness of sins."
Matthew 10:5-6 King James Version (KJV)
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the LOST SHEEP OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL."
SO, Christ came ONLY to restore the lost tribes of Israel(the 9 tribes) with the 3 tribes that went not astray:
Isaiah 11:11-12 King James Version (KJV)
11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the ISLANDS OF THE SEA.
12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the OUTCASTS OF ISRAEL, and gather together the DISPERSED OF JUDAH from the four corners of the earth."
ANOTHER Scriptures that proves this is Ezekiel 37..which speaks about the Valley of the dry bones..and in verse 11, He tells us WHO these dry bones are:
Ezekiel 37:11 "11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole HOUSE OF ISRAEL: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts."
AND IF YOU CONTINUE READING THAT CHAPTER, YOULL SEE WHERE HE TOLD EZEKIEL THIS:
15 The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,
16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For JUDAH, and for the children of Israel his companions(BENJAMIN AND LEVI)*: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and for all the house of Israel his companions:(THE OTHER 9 TRIBES)
17 And join them one to another into ONE STICK; and they shall become ONE in thine hand.
18 And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?
19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the TRIBES OF ISRAEL his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of JUDAH, and make them one stick, and they shall be ONE in mine hand."
SO, contrary to popular belief, Christ came ONLY to RESTORE the 9 tribes(The Northern Kingdom) with the 3 tribes(The Southern Kingdom) so they can be ONE AGAIN!!
So this is the qhole understanding of the parable about the prodigal son who went off into wickedness(9 tribes) who will return again to their Father's house, and UNITE with the Son(Judah, Levi amd Benjamin(Jews) who went not away!!

This is not the true biblical or historical understanding of Luke 15:11-32. Religion is a vague inaccurate interpretation of the Old Testament and uses people’s ignorance to give them a false sense of who the parable applied to. It’s a parable explaining the house of Israel being separated from the old covenant which left the house of Judah (the Jews) as the soul heirs of the old covenant-these two houses represent the two sons in the parable. But through the mercy of God, the house of Israel will be welcomed back to that from which they strayed from and welcomed by God through the new covenant. Throughout the New Testament the Jews make it clear that they are in disagreement with Christ’s teachings telling them they are not the soul heirs of the kingdom and that their fellow brethren tribes that left and mixed with the world are equally [if not more deserving] of the Father’s joy and celebration if they repent and humble themselves. This is not a parable about God welcoming random people into a covenant 2,000+ years in the future or about wasting money. Religion is only a theoretical concept and interpretation explained by an institution built off of the theft and unauthorized possession of the Hebrew Bible.

Consider this radical but rational reading of this well known parable:
    1. Who is the father? God the Father.
    2. Who is the younger son? People usually take this to mean people who have strayed from God. But consider, who is it that the Bible calls the Son of God? Could it be that the younger son is Jesus? Let's consider this and if it makes sense.
All through the Bible there are 2 brothers. In every case, the younger brother is favored and the older brother is shunned. Why? Could it be because this reflects the greater reality of the relationship between God the father and his 2 sons?
    3. If Father = God
    And younger son = Jesus
Who is the older brother representing? Consider Lucifer.
You will start to say in your heart, "that is blasphemy "
    But is it?
What if that is the truth?
Ask yourself, why does God put up with Lucifer?
Why does Lucifer have dominion over the earth?
From the parable, the older brother still owns his share of the property. The younger son had sold his away. If earth is the property, wouldn't this make sense in the scheme of the parable and fit into the whole drama of the Bible?
Look beyond your traditions and see what the Bible says.
It is the story of a loving father and the battle between his 2 sons. That is the only thing that explains why God puts up with the rebellion of Lucifer. And lets him have dominion over the earth for so long. But God loves the creation also and makes a way for his younger son to redeem the earth and humanity.
Pray about this and ask God about of it is true. Peace.

Why didn't the father ever through a party for the elder brother? A simple thank you would have made the elder brother's day !
The problem in this stroy is that this is about rewarding a loser that came back coz he had 'no where to go'. If the younger brother had somewhere else to go he wouldn't have come back. Sadly he had no option.
Having said that, the father is being unjust to the elder brother. The elder brother gives the reaction he gave coz of the excitement he saw in the father when the younger brother came back.
I deduce that the father never showed the same level of excitement / love / gratitude to the older brother.
The elder brother is right to get angry.
I read this story when I was like 7-8 years old ( in a Church Sunday School).
The villain in this story is the father. The character is dum. He is so engrossed in the younger son (who is a failure) that he forgets the elder brother. The reaction from the elder brother is just and perhaps that is the reason why the father gave a week excuse that your brother was dead and has now come back. If he was dead, the father should have thanked the elder brother to stay with him (take care of the family business - farming I guess)
This story is not about how god's love it's about how God selects complete idiots (younger brother) who have no place to go but God. And forgets the treasure he already has (older brother).

Everyone's comment on here i have read are deceived and the man that made this video is in error not knowing Scripture. The parable is about the 12 tribes of Israel, after they split into two nations in war against each other. They became the northern and the southern tribes. The ten northern tribes went in the ways of the heathens/Babylonian nations, while the two southern tribes stayed true to YAH/GOD. The southern tribes was Benjamin and Judah, and YAHUSHA (Jesus) was from the tribe of Judah. The Prodigal Son is a representation of the ten sons/tribes, the sons of Jacob/Isreal, who went astray as a whole after the whore of Babylon.

This is one interpretation of the parable sure. But here is another.
The older son is not jealous or prideful, but realistic.
He suspects, that the only reason the younger son returned is because he has no more money left and because his father loves him, he knows he can abuse this situation to his advantage.
The younger son may have changed and pay back the trust and compassion of his father, in which case everything is allright. Happy Ending.
But all too often in real life the story goes as follows.: The Older, more responsible son, who was reliable and dilligent his whole life, will see the inevitible outcome of his fathers naive choice and take his productive work elsewere.
Jesus should have spent his time learning Economics , Psychology and Game Theory. Or at least you should.

I do not like the way this parable was presented. It gives the impression that the younger Son somehow deserved his father”s forgiveness because he repented. It is a bit misleading to interpret the parable as if the son truly repented while in a foreign country and then decided to go back to the father. I do not believe there is anything the prodigal son did that is meritorious, but in this video the turning back of the prodigal to go back to his father is somehow presented as something good that he did that deserves forgiveness. Forgiveness is God”s free gift and cannot possibly be earned by our repentance as this video seems to imply.
