The 95 and 01 WRX are two of my favorite Rally cars. I've always wanted to add a Rally car to my collection and I think this is the one! Cheers Jason! Have a great rest of your day!
Hey Jason-a few tips with the WR8-If you go for the Boom Racing wheel upgrade (as I did) you won't be able to run the car on 4s. The tires will pull off the bead or the bead on the tire will tear. You can try a hair spray or kids bubble soap on the bead, but I'm running 3s and I feel there is no reason to move to 4s. I would recommend buying a set of spare tires, regardless-I've gone through a few that have torn beads. I'm running the 3200kv Hobbywing Max 10 G2 sensored system. Stock pinion. You won't need a fan on the motor with that setup (I'm in San Diego and have had no issues with overheating and I drive like you-pinned). Also, if you run the Boom Racing wheels, try not to run on street as the rim of the wheels will get mangled. For the shock upgrade, I'm going to try using shocks from the Tekno ET410.2 1/10 truggy (front shocks on all four corners). Shocks are 80mm for reference. Overall, the WR8 is a solid rig. It's near bullet proof and can take a real beating.
I’m on a rally car kick like you too!!! I’m looking at all the rally’s that you are as well but I’m also hearing great things about the Hoboa GTSE as well as the Maverick RX for the price point!
Awesome, once again! I just got the Traxxas Rally last week. I got the BL-2s because it comes with all the HD parts already and because I knew I was going to rip out all the electronics anyway. I put a Hobbywing MAX10 G2 with the EZRUN 3665 G3 2400 Kv on 3s most of the time. I hit 4s if I'm feeling spicy! I have a Traxxas 2280 servo on 7.4v and a Radiolink R4FGM in it. I also added the aluminum motor mount, bell crank, servo horn, and driveshaft. I don't think I'll upgrade any of the linkages. The last thing I upgraded was to aluminum batter strap mounts. I also put GTR shocks on it It is a blast and the HD parts hold up with no issues. I'm about 15 packs in and two sets of tires now. I have the Rlaarlo XTS-F10 Carbon Fiber as well, love it, too, I like the small scale feature the Rlaarlo has but as for a drive, the Traxxas takes it all day.
After 2 years of thought finally did a tamiya subaru impreza with all the important upgrades under 250 all in very happy i feel you would enjoy just have luv applying stickers for 3 hrs 😅😅😅😊
Great video definitely going to order one for sure. I have a brushed version of the Traxxas rally and it is so much fun. My nephew just picked up the vxl version and it’s awesome. The Traxxas rally handles really good.
Great additions to the collection! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the CEN. Appreciate the shoutout👍💯 I'm going to lean to that Traxxas Rally VXL. I also heard some good things on the Maverick Rally. Not sure how available those are up there. I will say they did some updates to the Savage XL vs the Savage but I will still lean to the Traxxas.
It is surprisingly fun to drift indoors for its size. I do the same! The savox 1290 really gives you better control with the increase in speed. You are able to catch the oversteer without delay. The car excels at hard packed gravel roads
There are three other larger excellent rally cars in their own right , the 8th scale Hoboa Hyper GT Rally car ( using original Hoboa parts longer oil shocks ) , the 7th scale King Motor Citroen C3 Abudabi rally car , and the fifth scale brushless conversion MCD XR5 Rally 🤔 🤣 .
The slightly larger and heavier 8th scale Hoboa Hyper GT RALLY can also be best in class using some Hoboa original parts 17mm width longer oil shocks , whilst highering the body posts and bodyshell for wheel arch clearance , along with some smaller circumference rally wheels with rally tyres 🤔 🤣 .
LOL...we must all run in the basement where we shouldn't...I have a Traxxas Rally car I upgraded to VXL 3S and it is an awesome driver, stock and mudboss tires work so well!!!! I can't wait to see what you do with your new Rally cars!!!! Great video 👍👍
I love RC rally cars they are so much fun to drive. I think a maverick RX or traxxas vxl would be cool to see. I have them both and would say stock vxl is a beast and maverick needs a few upgrades to really be a 8th scale rally car. The maverick was much cheaper which helped offset some of the upgrade parts. On the maverick I installed proper 8th electronics, steering servo, servo horn, buggy shocks I had from a old ofna, tuned the diffs with new fluids, reinforced the body with shoe goo and dry wall tape. My traxxas has a upgraded steering servo, servo horn and motor fan, heat sink and shoe goo the body and drywall tape. They are both awesome to drive and so much fun. I want to get a cen puma or build a tamiya xv02 next. Awesome new cars can't wait to see them out in the wild tearing it up.
If you can try to give it a shot on a smooth ice/hard snow terrain, maybe with some fast but very small jumps, it’s amazing in these conditions, and i feel the wr8 really shines there compared to other rally rc‘s
Love both those cars and am planning on getting one this year. Ive wanted a wr8 ever since they came out ( Ken Block edition ) like 20 years ago and crazy how the car is un changed besides body since then.
Great video, thanks! I'm new to the RC arena but love the rally cars. The HPI WR8 looks awesome and I think your video just helped to decide this is what I'm going to get. You mentioned that while the stock radio is really good, it does not have any stability control and no giro. What kind of radio would you recommend for this car that would have the giro and stability control functions? Thanks again!
one other difference between the blue and white puma is the body height. The blue puma apparently had some body/tire clearance issues with how much it rocked back and forth on the suspension, so CEN raised the body a bit on the 2024 puma in order to aid in that respect.
welcome to the party! I love my wr8 nitro. I feel it's the best rally car to date and handles better due to the lower weight as it doesn't have the weight of the heavy battery/motors. it handles way better than the puma out of the box and has tons of steering - which really needs a center diff and swaybars. I put in an order for a HNR foxhound rally just released over the rlaarlo rally- seems something different you should check it out and cover it on your channel ;).
All my cars are electric but rally cars should always be nitro for me. The nitro version of the wr8 is absolutely epic! Also yes get the Savage XL already! It's a beast!
I've watched all your vids, but never comment,I love both my fluxs, but like you said,if you dont feel like upgrading the xl to make it great....id love to see you with a vorza!.....im looking at getting one as well!👍....exellent vid as always!
The WR8 nitro is awesome, so I guess this is as good as that. Looks the same, but another powerplant, of course 😊 I'm sure you will have a blast with the car 😃
For the Traxxas VXL Rally, I run it on 4s, but just know that you'll need to put duct tape under the wheel wheels to keep the paint on. I ran a Castle SW4 at first but had issues with overheating driving in Southern California summer heat. I swapped out to a Mamba X and have had no issues with overheating. The VXL is uncontrollable on 6s. Center diff is recommended. 🙂
I have the same Traxxas Rally Brushed converted to 4s Brushless the drivetrain is upgraded to Tekno and Slash 4x4 Arms for bit more stability i do have a one way bearing diff for the center and 20K silicone on both diffs its just fun to watch it bashing the streets
Love rally cars , still waiting for Arma to come out with one of those . Most of rally cars ( in real life ) have so many lights and that’s was missing in all of those . Wish they will add lights kit included in the box ( for the price ) . The new puma is much better amd so the ralaarlo ( if only can be bigger ) . Great new toys to play with !!! Cheers
Forgot to say , I have maxed out the available suspension travel stiffness and clearance , by using the maximum number of spacers without wonky deformation of the coil springs . Suspension to my mind is perfect with the variety of spacers I've used . It's completely compliant and stiff enough to completely have maximum travel ground clearance and no way will bottom out the chassis to scratch it . I have 20mm clearance between bodyshell wheel arches and tyres with no battery in the car . It doesn't really need the upgraded parts , it performs well enough as is . Just keep it away from smashing into objects 🤣🤣🤣 .
My WR8's are completely stock at the moment , accept for the precautionary heatsinks . I purchased a whole set of ready built new spare shocks , and purchased a couple of spare packs of shock spacers buying a couple of packs of the plastic shock parts sets . The little pack of plastic shock parts set is expensive for what it is at £15 UK pounds a set excluding postage 🤣🤣🤣 . The new set of 4 spare buillt up shocks came from a UK seller who buys brand new RC cars and sells off the newly bought cars taken apart and sold of as spares parts , and I paid £33 UK pounds for the set of 4 shocks UK pounds including postage 🤪 .
🤣 I have 4 WR8's , and 4 Hoboa Hyper GT rallys . If you want a REALLY top notch buggy , you can't beat The Hoboa Hyper VS2 racing buggy . There are two brushlless versions the 4S 100 amp esc version which you would use in pro racing , then there is the 150 amp esc version like you find in the SST . THE VS2 is a beautiful buggy , I don't have four of them just yet , but I do have 2 of them at the moment . One is still unboxed unused obviously , like my other spare unboxed Hoboa's and WR8's etc . The WR8 is a beautiful rally car , and it's chassis is really light for an alloy rally car chassis in comparison with the hewn from steel feel of heavyweight Hoboa Hyper GT rally 🤣🤣🤣 . I love all my premium on road and rally car models , even the less than half the price 14th scale LC RACING EMB-RA rally car , because it's built with beautiful alloy chassis , alloy shock towers , and shocks . I have four versions of the Hoboa Hyper models , the GT , VT , SST and the VS2 , all brushless versions . But I also love my Kyosho 1969 Chevrolet camero Z28 VE brushless on road car too , of which I also have 4 of as well . Glad I purchased mine when they came out the end of 2022 in the UK , and purchased 4 of them over a period of 9 months. 🤣🤣🤣 . In the UK impossible to get hold of , because kyosho has no stock left . My LC RACING rally cars I have 5 of them 🤣🤣🤣 . My nickname is Ian OCD RC , because usually I have back ups to my backups RC's 🤣🤣🤣 .
Did you ever purchase and reviewnthe upgraded cen Ford puma (white one)? Would like to know what your favorite rally was in the end, cen, hpi, traxxas, hypergo or rlaarlo?
I live in Nfld any suggestions on where to get some reasonable priced lipos .if there is such a thing .don't really want to get any from China had to many bad experiences. Just waited for over a month on 600 bucks worth of batteries and finally they canceled my order without saying anything about it .I had call them to see what happened. So I don't mind paying little more if there closer to the great white north .well little rocky east for me lol
Learn to drive, and setup the car. Gyros are a joke. A crutch for the unpracticed. Go out, and learn. You don't need any electronic stabilisation, it is silly.
Love both those cars and am planning on getting one this year. Ive wanted a wr8 ever since they came out ( Ken Block edition ) like 20 years ago and crazy how the car is un changed besides body since then.
Another good unboxing mate ... now that is another rc i regret selling ! Its a wicked beast , enjoy it man
I watched your video with it.

You need to upload a video of your car. I would like to check it out.
@JasonPerrinRCVlogs yeah, maybe I'll do that. However, I'd need to figure out how to edit and whatnot. I'm not cool like you.
After 2 years of thought finally did a tamiya subaru impreza with all the important upgrades

The kyosho datsun rally is also 👌
I'll only take my RC's out in dry weather conditions only 🤣 .

I’ve had traxxas rally since it came out, I think 2008 it is a great car 🚗. Always good to support HPI though .
Hope your holidays where a happy one 😊 🇬🇧
There is also the maverick quantum RX which is essentially hpi but way different setup . Cheap and a hoot to drive i have 2
700 ???!?!!.....that's sick!
