I used to live in the US up until I was 11 my parents by that time were filing for divorce the process took a bit to long and we stayed longer that our visas permitted time, I was a child I did not take that decision, my mom, my sister(who is a US citizen but now lives in the US with my dad) and I left to our country my dad stayed in the US, we left because we were not living we were surviving, life was really tough we stayed homeless, family brought us back to our country, the problem is now my dad is a US resident so is his wife, my sister is a citizen, my half sister is a citizen too, I've been trying to go to the US for vacation purposes to see my family and friends and apparently I'm band from traveling to the US why when it wasn't my fault my family now is stable I don't plan on staying, I'm 20 now and I will study abroad in Germany so why can't I see my family? I'm just asking for a visa that's all, just to see my family and friends :'(
You not a us citizen till you take the oath of allegiance and get your certificate. You are doing the process to get to that point congrats on passing your test
I became a US citizen to bring democracy to this country by protecting/practicing the right to vote. The democracy in this country is actually a third world kind; similar to what I experienced during the chaotic times in my native land. In the US, there are so many people who don’t acknowledge the basic principles of democracy while believing that the republic creates the right way of applying it, let alone misunderstanding of capitalism. Remind you, this is why Iraq that was forced to import the US democracy lays in shambles today. We have so much work to do to advance from this quasi-democracy state. Educating these plebeians should be the first step.
Matty Ainz - Sure you can get a US passport because your mother is a US citizen. But its a lengthy process and there are some protocols. Your mother will have to file a petition for your green card. If your age is under twenty-one, this process takes approx six months. But if you are older it can take more then ten years as there is a waiting period for it. Once you get your green card, you will have to live in the US for five years then only can apply for citizenship.
im a filipino from the philippines. if I become a us citizen the only thing that looks like so scary is that I have to pay tax to the us government all my income in the philippines and other parts of the world. so that's terrible nightmare hahaha :)
Hi Punjabi! According to the USCIS, MOST green card holders need to maintain that status for at least 5 years before applying for citizenship. But cases can vary. Here's some more information on the requirements for citizenship. www.fileright.com/blog/requirements-for-citizenship-for-five-year-green-card-holders/
FileRight.com one of my friend moved to us last year and it means he have to maintain his status and other question of mine is that time period of permanemt residence to citizen vary according to ur case?? Plz reply
It’s too easy when I see you take the history test most Americans Don’t know their own history and if you don’t know the process be quiet I had to pay $700 to renew my green card in order to get my citizenship $1000 for the citizenship don’t forget that I got a pay taxes out of my paycheck property taxes for my house and I Health benefits and then I had to take my citizenship test in New York City that trip to New York City cost me $150 gas $40 parking $40 Toll and George Washington Bridge $20 and then I Went with my family $50 for food so next time do your research before you start talking
I agree. People who are born in the US but can't graduate from (even) a US high school are citizens at birth and are allowed to procreate, perpetuating the cycle. AND VOTE (?!). We should tighten the US citizenship standards and test everyone. I know I would pass since I was naturalized as an adult. Would you?!
Thanks! I like the spoke person , good energy, I felt that I knew her.

Since Obama signed FATCA into law, many U.S. citizens living outside the U.S. are renouncing their citizenship.
Citizenship based taxation sucks

It's far too easy to become a US citizen. We must tighten the requirements and raise the processing fees.
