I really appreciate you taking the time to do this and also the forward thinking to do two reviews. First as a phone and second as a dap
Thanks!
I like how they advertised the camera “its not good but it works” 😂. Kudos to Moondrop for being honest. And a great review. Looking forward to second part
Thank you! They deserve credit indeed. 👍 I doubt any other company could be as honest.
Should of been
It's at least better than iPods camera so is the sound.
But I have heard a few problems about it destroying SD cards is this true

Appreciate your in depth review. Ive always wanted a phone that focuses on audio and this fits what i want perfectly.
I am glad you found the video helpful.
He already has it!😮
Thank you for this!
You're welcome!
Totally appreciate this video! Especially when you began with the phone part. I plan to use this as a media hub hence I'll root it and all that juicy stuff! Thank you very much!
You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Starting with the phone part was important since many people plan to use it as a phone. Have fun and thank you for watching! 👍
Superb review, all the points regarding the general usage were all excellently explained! Can't wait for the next part 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
chapters on this video are fantastic thank you
You're very welcome!
Bro, Thank you so much for covering this and being so through. Best review ever!
Glad it was helpful! 😊
Great review. Thank you. Looking forward to the next video.
Awesome, thank you!
Hey man. Fantastic review. I appreciate the effort and time you took to make this.
Keep it up
Thanks, will do!
didnt finsihed the review yet but you mention so many things we want to k now. So good
I'm glad you find it helpful.
VERY impressive review! You answered so many things I wanted to know quickly.
Glad it was helpful!
Could you upload the pictures somewhere in full resolution, please? I'd like to see them directly without UA-cam compression. Thank you
I'm unable to post links at the moment (need more subscribers), but you can check out the new video (part II) for sample pictures and a sample video.
Thank you for this ,i would definitely buy this.Hopefully, in the next video, you will discus the all important sound qualities .
No problem! I actually go into depth about all the sound quality aspects in Part II of the video, which you can already find on the channel.
does the screen have flickering like most oled screens? I'm sensitive to PWM (pulse width modulation), so that is very important to me
I didn't notice any flickering.
Great review. so many questions answered
Glad it was helpful!
Great detailed review! Could you talk more about its DSP functionality in the next video?
Sure thing!
how is stereo speaker ? yes please upload picture sample and also how to about selfie camera ?
Check out the new video (Part II).
Possible to have a confirmation of login Google account for yt and yt music on this phone please ?
Google account for UA-cam login confirmed 👍
How did you install WhatsApp? The Play Store says the app is not supported on the MIAD 01. I also could not sync my contacts to the phone from my google account. Any tips would be appreciated.
I installed it from the APKpure app. I didn't try to sync my contacts.
@@Atechreviews Thanks. I was finally able to get all my apps from the play store and sync my contacts. It takes time for google play services to work.
Can you show me how to active google play? I can't do it when it send messenger: can not connect to server
Go to settings and turn on the toggle for Google Play Services basic functionality. After that the Google downloads and activates by itself.
Wow I surprised that this review exist. Nice review.
Thanks!
Thanks for the detailed review. My interest is for a "good enough" phone and a great companion for my IEM. I needed to know whether it worked well with T-Mobile in the US, how it sounded, and how it performed. I think you covered those well. I do have some follow up, though...
1. What part of the US are you in, since T-Mobile 5g coverage is better in some places than others?
2. I think you said it aggressively kills apps in the background. Is that correct? For example, if I open several apps and return to the first will it need to restart the first app or will it open in a frozen state from where I left off?
3. Any clarification on how many Android and security updates it'll get?
4. Does it feel solid like it's not going to fall apart with daily use as a phone?
Thx!
Hey there, I'm glad the video was helpful for you!
1. The phone supports 5G, but not mmWave. If there's coverage, it will work with standard 5G.
2. I didn't mention that the phone kills apps in the background. With its large 12 GB of RAM, it doesn't need to. Instead, it has a power-saving feature that closes power intensive apps after a while. For apps like Whatsapp, I suggested adding them to the list of apps that will never sleep for instant notifications. I never did that and I never found any app closed in the background or in stand by. Not even once.
3. Regarding software updates, someone in the comments mentioned emailing Moondrop, and they replied that they would continue providing updates without specifying what or when.
4. The phone is lightweight yet feels solid, not flimsy at all. It feels like a single, well-built piece. It's just lighter than most DAPs with a metal chassis due to the material on the back. I do wish it came with a case to protect the corners, but overall, it's a great phone for its purpose.
Love your english :) thanks a lot for this review.
From russia with love❤
Welcome!!
Thx! Nice and long rewiev
Glad you liked it!
Great video! Really enjoyed all the detail. I wonder when you do the second video, could you say a little more about how to install the Google Play store?
Great! The second video is now available for you to watch. It includes the Google Play Store already installed, so there's no need for you to install it separately.
What about the quality of the vibration motor? Never thought that I would care about this until I got a really bad one.
The quality is decent, not bad at all.
thanks man ❤
Welcome 😊
Can you check if the phone has GPS? and if it works with google maps? There's another review that shows that the app works, but not the actual location or gps. And don't know if it even asks for general or accurate location. Would be nice if you can enlighten us with this important detail. Thanks in advance!
Yes, it has GPS. As demonstrated in the video, Google Maps can load the maps you want, but to determine your location, you need to install Google Mobile Services (GMS) such as MicroG.
Im really interested in this phone, but im curious about the update support. I've looked everywhere for info, but cant seem to find how long it will be supported for. Also great review btw! Thanks for taking the time to do this video, very well done!
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you found the review helpful. As for update support, a user in the comment section here asked Moondrop in an Email and they replied that they will provide software update and support in the future.
If I were to speculate, I'd say it might be similar to how DAPs receive updates, where they add audio features for a few years. However, I don't think they would be able to compete with Samsung or Google in terms of update support. To get accurate information, you could try reaching out to them via their official website or asking a seller if they have any insights.
great review
Thanks!
Love the design
Same here!
First u have to do the dap part...it's an audiophile phone....also it's mega pixels not mega bytes for the camera...other than that thank you
I chose randomly. Part II is up if you want to check it out. Thanks for the heads up about the megapixels. I really needed to sleep at that point. Lol.😅
So does it have gps function ? I really need gps in a phone...
It has GPS. However, for Google Maps to function, I think it requires Google Location Services and libraries, which necessitate a straightforward manual installation of GMS.
could you get Google Wallet and Google Maps to work? I would really like to get the phone, but if those don't work - that's a deal breaker for me..
I couldn't get the Google Wallet to work. Google Maps is unable to show your location, but the maps work.
I hope they make more iterations of this in the future! My LG V60 is my main DAP right now and still going strong, but I will need a replacement when it does break, and this looks promising!
I hope so too! It would be exciting to see what improvements and innovations they could bring in future iterations.
You say it works with T-Mobile, what about Mint Mobile? Does that work? Also, how do you buy it in the US?
I didn't test it with Mint Mobile. You buy from online retailers.
Oddly you can download and STP file for a case from their website. Not sure why? Do they expect the customers to 3D print it or is it there for other companies to quickly produce a case for it ....?
I'm not entirely sure if that file is intended for other manufacturers or consumers. I found out about it from the comment section here, and I'm still hoping a case becomes available eventually.
@@Atechreviews I will probably wait for a second versio.n with better camera hardware. I only want to carry a single device. I would just get a Topping G5 I'd I wanted to carry a second one. Great review.
@@oliverbalogh8234 Thanks!
Can you hide the navigation bar ?
Yes.
Bit of a random question but what is that background on the phone
Are you referring to the wallpaper? The phone came with that wallpaper; I think it's an anime girl listening to headphones using the MIAD01 phone. If you're talking about the lights reflected on the phone, those are LED lights above my desk.
@@Atechreviews ah thanks. I was talking about the wallpaper
@@Atechreviews can you please upload a background image? she's just very beautiful
could you test Google Play Device Integrity and see what pasees?
OK, will try.
No DRM and curved edges will kill this phone for most ppl , besides that is an unike and amazing phone ,its a DAC/PHONE Congrats to moondrop!!! 4.4 port an 2tb sd card is just insane!!!
Congratulations to Moondrop on their debut in the competitive phone market! I look forward to seeing them continue to release products that are both demanded and needed by many in the audio community.
By any chance you know if this works with at@t
I am not sure if cellular connectivity will function properly, as the device does not support AT&T's 5G bands.
I really want it, nice idea from moondrop 🙂
It's a fantastic idea. I hope other companies are inspired to create their own versions.
Let me just get my tea 🍵
Haha 😅👍
Bro, this phone is coollll fr
Yes👍
Better to just buy an older Flagship from two years ago. Thank You for the in-depth review man. I'm pretty sure this is a $200.00 phone in China.
It's a 344.88 phone in China (2499RMB) which is a price range of low-mid range phones over here.
It's better than the Samsung M33 to me, except for the camera, Bluetooth and CPU/GPU.
Sometimes I just want to do some wired headphones daily on the go, this is a great phone for this. Keep in mind a playlist of 100 96kps/192kps 32bit FLAC songs needs more RAM than you think. My 2013 MacBook air struggle, that I need to use my windows workstation to play.
ikr literally just get a used V from LG
LG V60 is the only phone that can rival this one but still has no 4.4mm balanced jack. Still depends on what you need.
Apparently it's a Lava Blaze curve the specs are really close, almost bar for bar. $200 phone.
@@coldtail05also mine bricked after a week
You actually skipped the call recorder function. Did you install that or did it come with the phone? After all the features explained a call recorder function is important for me.
Apologies for the oversight. I forgot to include the call recorder function in Part II of the video. The phone actually comes with a native call recording feature, but I installed the app you see in the apps menu to test if there was any difference in quality. Turns out, the native functionality is more than sufficient, so no need for the app.
Hola! Por casualidad probaste tus app de los bancos? funcionan?
Hola, no probé ninguna aplicación bancaria, pero no creo que tengas problemas si no rooteas el teléfono o desbloqueas el cargador de arranque.
This phone is pretty much exactly what I want in a phone. $350 is thus far the most I have spent on a phone and wouldn't want to spend much more than that. However, due to the 4.4 and internal DAC I am willing to go higher. I don't game at all. I really like to have an SD card slot to increase storage. Camera is a medium-low priority for me. Pictures/videos of my family for my own use is the extent of my camera use. I have used macro feature in the past and might miss that. Battery life is very important, never had wireless charging but seems like more of a headache than it is worth. . Android is a must and all the standard stuff with that goes without saying. I am excited about a front fingerprint again (last few phones have been on the back). It looks plenty quick and responsive for my uses. Looking forward to finishing this video and getting into the other one.
This phone seems to fit your needs perfectly, especially with its 4.4 and internal DAC. Also battery life, SD card slot, and a front fingerprint sensor, making it a great choice for you! Enjoy the videos.
I have a serious question : Android auto and waze compatible please ?
What do you mean by "compatible"? The phone comes with the Google Play Store and basic Google Play services, but not all functionalities. You can easily install additional Google functions through GMS to enable features like location services for Google Maps, etc.
What providers does it work with?
It works for me with T-Mobile. You can check the supported network bands on the Moondrop website to see if they match those of your carrier.
can the icons be changed to normal looking icons?
Yes, as demonstrated in the video, you can achieve this by installing a launcher from the Play Store, such as Nova Launcher, and then installing icon packs from the Play Store. Afterward, you can change the icons from the launcher settings.
33:12 S is shutter speed, "lens shape" is metering (basically which portions of the picture are considered for auto exposure)
Thank you for the clarification! 👍👍👍
Have you tried Apple Music? I guess it will work like in any other Android phone, right?
I haven't tried Apple Music yet, but I think it should work fine since most apps work without any issues.
Great audio phone device, thank you……. I think the cost focused on the right spot and not into latency department in terms of gaming , because I do not game with phones. AAC and LDAC seems to be my all in one solution on the go for me. No more dongles,😂
Yeah, no more dongles 🙂
Fun fact on the case, they include step files for a case on their site
Thanks for the info. I'm curious, what exactly is that for? Is it for 3D printing?
@@Atechreviews seems to be so. It can be opened and edited in CAD software. I planned to try this phone out but I need cases for my stuff so I asked them about it and they seemed to have added it
Can you give a link on photo
Check out the new video (part II).
Given the length of this review, it should have been on Netflix. I have never seen such a long time in my life. I am going to comment without seeing 😂
Haha, that's the best comment ever! 🤣 I completely understand that it's a lengthy review, and I'll keep it much shorter in the future. I was just so excited about this phone that I wanted to cover every detail.
have heard a few problems about it destroying SD cards
That's not true in my experience. It actually requires you to format new SD cards before use. Also don't remove the SD card during the formatting process. That's all.
Overall sound quality in this phone a great? Or average?
Great.
the front reminds me of the nokia fabula design, like the nokia n9
I loved that design!
It also feels similar as well.
Great phone.
Agreed.
is can install kernelsu or magisk?
You can install them, but be aware that if you do, Google Wallet may stop working sooner or later.
Sad the camera isnt better. But they are so honest (camera not good but it works) that is soo nice. It has everything i wan texcept the camera. Would it be a bit better it would be mine. Also the displays looks soo nice. Also curved for this pricepoint. NIce!
👍
hope samsung also brings hi resolution audio support with 3.5 mm jack
Oh, how I wish that were true.
What about pwm? Are you experiencing eye fatigue?....
The PWM is excellent, with a high rate of 1920 Hz, so you don't notice any flicker. I've been using the phone for a few days now, all day, and I haven't experienced any eye fatigue.
Hello, is it great for games?
I didn't test CPU-intensive games, but basic games ran smoothly. The 12 GB of RAM was beneficial in this regard.
@@Atechreviews OK thanks

That is one way of looking at it.

hello is have google play certified? i needed for google wallet
To get Google Wallet working, you'll need to install something like MicroG.
I know this week be a weird request. But could you try Chinese censored stuff like the tank man and other banned image in China? I've heard Chinese domestic models can sometimes scan your picture library and delete photos that they don't like.

if you can flash lineage on it i'd buy it.
I'm not sure.
They could have included the Chu 2
That would have been awesome, but sadly, the days of bundling earphones with phones are over.

You're right. Thanks!
Magkano po Yan sir at san pwd mka bili salamat.
$399.
This phone doesn't seem to offer much in terms of smartphone features (Quite bad though) its sole selling point appears to be that it functions as a DAP and can make calls.
For me it has three standout features:
1- Exceptional sound quality with both 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs.
2- Impressive display.
3- Large 5000mAh battery.
It is from Moondrop: they are making it specifically because their business is high end wired headphones & absolutely no one is making phones with headphone jacks + a dedicated DAC.
it would be perfect if screen was noncurved and if it supported 2 sims and sd card at the same time
That might sound like the perfect phone, but many people might not prioritize those features and wouldn't want to pay for something they wouldn't use. However, I do agree that a non-curved screen would have been a great addition.
MOONDROP Vs LG quad dac PHONE?
MOONDROP everytime. It sounds much better, has more power output, and has a balanced 4.4mm output.
@@AtechreviewsTengo LG V50 exclusivamente para escuchar música y LG V60, Solo para uso multimedia, si obtengo moondrop Miad01 seria un buen avanze en relación al audio.
has the playstore??
Yes.
@@Atechreviews oh nice to know.. i saw other yotuber saying you have to install everything manually. thanks
@@endrizo In the settings menu, there's an option labeled "Google Play basic services functionality." When activated while connected to the internet, the Play Store will automatically appear on the home screen without requiring manual installation.
I found this phone recently and doing some research. This phone is bit better than Samsung A35 and a bit worse than Samsung A55 based on chipset it used (Dimensity 7050). With price range in between A35 and A55 too.
Other info like 12GB Ram, 256GB internal storage etc are generally better than Samsung A35 (except a few, like camera)
Nice review tho, will this release globally in English?.
You're right! The A55 has its strengths, but the MIAD01 really shines in a few areas. It's got more RAM, faster and bigger storage, supports microSD cards, and has USB 3.0 OTG for quick file transfers. Plus, its Android interface is way snappier than One UI. Menu navigation feels even smoother than my S23 Ultra. As for its global release, you can only get it online from retailers that ship worldwide. When you first boot up the phone, you'll be greeted with a language selection screen, and English is the default option.
@@Atechreviews oh nice..
not being able to use it as a dac for pc... is probably what kills this for me since it also doesnt have gplay/youtube music
Even my little Shanling m0 pro can be used as a dac. Even as a bt transmitter and receiver.
If this is true. Damn, having all in one DAC with 5G support would be lit. Thanks for upload OP. Btw my fiio m11 plus uses an app to enable usb DAC for PC. It's not fully integrated with Android OS
It comes with Google Play preinstalled. You can install UA-cam Music from the Play Store. I wish it could be used as a DAC with a PC.
This is one reason I find DAPs useful.
You're welcome. I don't know that about the FiiO M11 Plus. Thanks for the info. 👍
If i buy this phone it would be for audio files or movies
And it accomplishes that perfectly. That's why I'm happy with the excellent and large display.
Can you remove the preinstalled apps?
Yes.
Those bezzel looks like 2018 phone damn
Some phones today still have that bezel style!
For me to use this as an everyday phone it really needs faster charging than 33W. It's like going back to 2015 again 😩 They could have made the specs a lot better and charged a lot more. I was expecting it to cost like £600-£700. They've rolled together a basic DAC and basic phone. It is 1.0 so I'll give them a break but I'm waiting for maybe 3.0
There's definitely room for improvement in future iterations, assuming any are planned.
Moondropshipped
🙂
?
Camera is megapixel not megabyte.
You're correct. I definitely needed more sleep at that point, lol.
Thank you for your deep go through it really helps, Android Auto you didn't talk about I assume it doesn't work right?
The other thing is this is obviously a Chinese version my question is does moondrop release a global version or not?
Because the most annoying issue is the Android Auto as this is an audio phone and lacking the android auto is a big deal
Again thank you for your review
You're welcome. Android Auto works partially. Maps load and function, but to determine your location, you'll need Google Mobile Services (GMS) like MicroG. As far as I'm aware, only one version has been released, and I believe it's an international version because there's an option to enable Google services in the settings.
@@Atechreviews thank you for your reply 🙏 as long as it works and the car read it and enabled Android Auto this is a great news 👍 thank you so much

@@Atechreviews hiby not best player. Mango, jet , imusic, QQ - top for my.
Can you make a game play review, like call of duty warzone
I will try when I have time 👍
This is just my opinion. Most apps that you go out and buy don't have a mobile connection they have Wi-Fi with that I'll have mobile so taking them on the run with you and downloading or streaming music is impossible. Yes you can download the music but I'm just saying for the streaming portion. While I'm not sold on this the ability to have 5G to to stream music from let's say title Amazon music Spotify whatever you want is utterly fantastic. That's almost worth the price of the phone/dat in itself. Imho
Dude, you totally get where I'm coming from. Being able to step outside and use Spotify without draining my phone's battery with a hotspot is a game-changer and totally justifies the cost. Plus, the 12 GB of RAM for multitasking, 256 GB of fast UFS3.1 internal storage, fast USB 3.0, and Android 13 all add up to make this phone a fantastic deal for what it offers.
stilll waiting....
Part II is Up 👍
