Ok. They need to bring out a Miad 01 Pro or something like this with better cameras. The cameras are not great. EIS even if you can activate it is basically like not active as it seems.
Too bad. I hoped for at least the main cam being usable for such things.
Great overview. One of the most detailed I ever saw on a phone. Keep it up man. I know a lot of work but man that was great and very helpful especially for people who are interested in buying it.
Btw. did you have the chance to try external mics? Do they work and is the quality better also for video recording, or audio notes.
I mean with those DACs it might be good as a portable audio recorder as well eventually. The internal mics during video recording sounded like a poorer midrange audio recording capability.
As for buttons. 4 is enough if they have a function to configure it like good old blackberry hold volume down to go to previous track, volume up for next and a button for play and pause. The other button would be for power.
In general the mediatek SoC is not bad but for a Pro variant I wish they could add a more powerful variant. Does not need to be Snapdragon can be still Mediatek but a more powerful one.
So if I understand correctly the DAC is only used via the headphone jacks. The speakers are using the internal Mediatek DAC only. Is there a way to turn off the DAC like on older LG phones? I mean if I do not have headphones plugged in I don't need the DACs to eat power.
Thank you for your feedback! I truly appreciate it, especially coming from someone with more experience like yourself. I hope the video wasn't too long.
I agree that an upgraded version of the MIAD01 with a more powerful Mediatek chip and better cameras would be great. Improving EIS for smoother video recording is also important.
Regarding external mics, they work with a 3.5mm cable that splits into a female 3.5mm mic input and another female 3.5mm headphone input. This setup worked well for both audio and video recording. External mics sound much better than the onboard mic.
As for the speakers, I'm not sure if they use the internal DAC or the Mediatek DAC. However, the phone consumes about 10% battery life per hour at maximum brightness and use, with standby time being better.
Tbf, I think it makes sense for them to release this phone to "test the waters" first... it would be too financially risky to commit funding on R&D and manufacturing for a flagship caliber phone, only for it to potentially flop in the end. I could see a company like FiiO, Cayin, HiBy, or iBasso succeed on that gamble, since they already have some expertise on Android-based DAPs under their belt... but for a company like Moondrop, to just go all in might be too much to ask at this stage.
Here's hoping that this sells well enough for it to make sense for them to release higher-end iterations, in the future.
@@statixfear I agree. The phone sold out quickly, indicating a limited initial release to gauge interest, as you mentioned.
If this phone succeeds, I believe Moondrop could potentially release a flagship level phone.
It's a positive step for the audio industry, and here's hoping more manufacturers follow suit with similar products.
What did you expect? It's a midranged Android phone.
Edit: Also, that display looks like it came off of the LG Velvet

Great video. Thanks for the comparisons and taking up my suggestion for comparisons.
No problem 👍
highly appreciated your effort for makin this and really loves the comparison, thanks 🙏🙏🙏btw you got yourself a new subscriber from indonesia (edited)
Awesome, thanks for the sub! 👍👍👍
Thanks man! This phone really has a specific market target.
I tend to think so.
I have a dying walkman and this is really looking like it's right up my alley.
Hopefully it's still in stock once I have the money.
Your impressions of the DAC quality are what really sold me. I don't have any really hard to drive headphones, just an hd599, hexas, aria, and chu, so I don't think I'll suffer the issues you demonstrated with the HD6XX (300ohms wow).
I think this'll be a good replacement for my aging razer phone 2 and dying walkman. Thanks for the video
It sounds like the Moondrop MIAD01 could be a great fit for you, especially considering your current devices. The DAC/Amp quality is indeed a standout feature, and it should pair nicely with your headphones. I showed in the video that it could moderately drive the HD6XX using the single-ended output and I am sure it will be much better when used with the balanced 4.4mm output. Hopefully, it'll still be available when you're ready to make the purchase. I'm glad my impressions were helpful, and thank you for watching the video!
Fantastic video - much appreciated!!
In relation to the hi-res DAC, if you install USB AUDIO PLAYER PRO does it detect the DAC and confirm the capability of hi-res audio, or does it throw up an error message? Thx.
Yes it does
Super review - well done and thanks
Glad it was helpful! 🙂
I’ve been considering getting a secondary phone for music and other things, this looks tempting
The display, battery, and audio capabilities of the Moondrop MIAD01 make it a compelling choice.
Thank you very much for this! You are articulate and heart felt, it's more of a friend advising me than a reviewer. I am in the market for a DAP and I had been eying the Hiby R4. This is very tempting though. I plan to use whichever device I purchase for UA-cam(I have the premium hence I can use it with screen off) and listening to music. 2 questions for you:
1. In terms of battery life(I know I am asking a lot) could you roughly estimate how long these two would each take to deplete for these two use cases?
2. Are there different levels of gain in the Moondrop Phone for both 3.5 and 4.4?
I am planning to root this with Shizuku and install the James DSP or V4A app and that would do wonders with the tweaking of the bass impact.
Thank you once again. You are a blessing to the community. Awesome review!
Thank you for your kind words and insightful questions! I'm thrilled that you found the review helpful.
1. Regarding battery life, the Moondrop MIAD01 is designed to be efficient, consuming about 10% of the battery with the display on max brightness and various features like location, WiFi, 5G, and NFC turned on. The Hiby R4 "appears" to consume more battery than the MIAD01 because its battery is smaller. 8% per hour when playing music with the display on. The level of gain used also affects the battery life, with three levels of gain to choose from. The exact battery life for both devices depends on usage and settings, but you can expect at least 8 hours of playback, if not more.
2. Unfortunately, the Moondrop MIAD01 does not have different levels of gain for the 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs. In contrast, the Hiby R4 allows you to adjust the output level to match the sensitivity of your headphones or IEMs, providing more precise volume control.
It's exciting to hear about your plans for customization with Shizuku and James DSP! Don't forget about Wavelet. This should allow you to tailor the sound to your liking. Since the MIAD01 is neutral, you'll have the flexibility to shape its sound profile. Before diving into customization, I recommend exploring the customization options already available in the Hiby Music app to see if they meet your needs. Best of luck!
@@Atechreviews Thank you for your concise answers. This device is an all in one and "portable" more than a DAP that excites me. When you mentioned about how clean and precise it is I knew it's the one. I have dongles that are warm and engaging and this will add to the assortment of different sound profiles. I own an R3 sabre 2022 and I love it to bits so I have some experience with the Hiby app and the MSEB settings. Will definitely play around with those. Wavelet is a very good shout!
They need to add some accessories with this though, a phone case a charger or both! Smartphones shipping with less than bare bones should be a crime and unacceptable 😢.
Thank you once again for taking your time and effort to get back to me. I appreciate it very much. Cheers!
@@wana.me003 You're welcome! It's even more impressive than just clean sound-it's super detailed and layered, with excellent separation between vocals and instruments. I completely agree that smartphones should come with at least basic accessories like a case. Thank you for your kind words, and I'm glad I could help. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Cheers!
thanks for the comprehensive review
My pleasure!
is there any way to get a system wide eq on this phone? thats the only thing holding me back from it since i like a bigger bass bump and i want to stream music from many sources and dont want everything downloaded on it.
I don't think so. Maybe there will be an update in the future that adds that feature.
Thank you for the review man,do helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the amazing review. regarding the (re)sampling indicator. I know USBAPP has one in the app. so that might help
Thanks for the tip!
Great detailed review of the audio smartphone, maybe I'm wrong, but isn't it possible to check the sound output through the PowerAmp or Neuro Player Music audio apps? Of course, this won't affect the sound of the whole system, but we're focusing on listening to audio files ^^. I remember when I used them, there were much more sound settings than in Hiby or Fiio apps (audio apps from these brands seemed to me to be too small in terms of functionality)
I've successfully installed both of these apps and they functioned as expected. If there's anything specific you'd like me to check, I'd be more than happy to do so.
The sushi part make me add this to cart
Hahaha 🤣👍
So I just got my maid, and I can indeed hear my screen interactions through the 3.5mm jack (with a normal 3 pole TRS)..... Is there a way to fix this? It's *incredibly* annoying and disturbing at night when it's quiet
What headphones can you recommend for this phone? better synergy? i like a metal music, jazz, rock, vocals....
I tested it with several planar magnetic headphones, and the performance was exceptional, delivering outstanding sound quality and bass. Headphones like the Sundara, Edition XS, Ananda, and Arya sounded fantastic. The Sennheiser HD560 S and SHP9500 also performed admirably. However, I don't believe Audeze headphones are a good match, to be honest. Focal headphones, on the other hand, are another excellent pairing for this phone.
I didn't really understand the problem with the google functions. Can I use the google play store or youtube on the smartphone or do I have to do everything in the browser?
Hi there! As mentioned in the video, the phone comes with preinstalled Google Play and basic Google Play services. This means that some Google Play services, like location, may not work. However, you can still use Google Play, UA-cam and Google Maps without any issues. If you need location and other services, you can install something like microG, which is free.
Nice , thanks for the effort ❤
My pleasure 😊
Do you think it would be a competent bluetooth DAP ? Or would I be better off just getting one of those small Sony walkmen?
Of course. It supports SBC/AAC/LDAC and sounds great with LDAC.
just watched part one and the unboxing video, can i know where did you get this phone? its only released in china afaik
I'm glad you enjoyed the videos! The phone is available from many online stores that offer shipping to the US and internationally. I purchased it online as well. You can use Google to search for the phone, and you'll find various stores that sell it.
Did i miss battery life comparison with DACs? Can you please tell me here again.
Battery consumption is approximately 10% per hour under full use, such as watching videos or listening to music at maximum brightness, with WiFi, 5G, Location, and NFC all enabled. If you reduce the brightness or listen to music with the display off, the battery life nearly doubles. When using a phone with a dongle DAC, the power consumption can vary depending on the DAC chip. Some DACs are more power-hungry, potentially doubling the power consumption compared to using just this phone.
Does it have any gaming features like blocking the navigation or status bar so they are not brought up accidentally which especially happens when playing rhythm games?
from his review part 1, yes, this phone does have gaming booster app
Yes. It has a pre-installed app called gaming booster.
Thanks! That's good to know
Thank you for such detailed review i really enjoyed it and appreciate your willingness to delve so deeply including the Hiby R4. Really enjoyed your reviews and top quality one i must say and immediately sets you apart from everyone else
I also have a question regarding your comparison to G5. I might have misunderstood it wrongly, but i got the impression that G5 is better and has better amping capabilities. Would you mind sharing the differences from sound quality standpoint from using IEM and not headphones?
Do you mind breaking down the bass section. Although its not as dynamic with impact and power, in terms of extension how deep it goes, how would you compare with the BRT7 and G5? I have initial interest with MIAD01 but its audio output being placed on the top is a big deterent to me. But at the same time i am attracted to your description on clarity separation etc
Thank you for your kind words and for appreciating the depth of my review. I'm glad you found the review enjoyable and of high quality.
Absolutely, when it comes to sound quality alone, the TOPPING G5 stands out as one of the best portable DAC/Amps I've experienced. Its performance with IEMs is particularly noteworthy, offering exceptional detail and instrument separation even in complex musical passages. With the most sensitive IEMs, the G5 maintains a pitch-black background, demonstrating its excellent compatibility, even with IEMs that have extremely low impedance (I tested it with 4-ohm IEMs).
Moreover, the G5 enhances the soundstage and imaging of most of my IEMs, providing a clean, detailed, yet natural sound. Its dynamic range is impressive, offering three levels of gain and an analog potentiometer for optimal volume control without digital attenuation or digital volume control. The G5 excels in clarity, with exceptional separation, staging, and punchy dynamic bass.
On the other hand, the MIAD01 is also a detail retrieval phone with super clean and fast bass. Its bass goes deep, is fast, and so clean that when I compared the bass of the MIAD01 to the BTR7, I felt the BTR7 had more weight in the low end because of how clean the MIAD01's bass is. However, the MIAD01 is one of the cleanest and most separated portables I've heard under $1k, emphasizing clarity, detail retrieval, and instrument separation. If you're looking to hear every subtle nuance in your music with great clarity, the MIAD01 is an excellent choice.
Regarding bass, the MIAD01 has been upgraded with DSP features and there is upcoming PEQ. The Hiby Music app allows you to adjust not only the amount but also the character of the bass.
@@Atechreviews Thank you so very much for your detail reply. I sincerely appreciate it 🙏🙇
Between MIAD01 and G5, what is your opinion for synergy with Dunu DaVinci and Elysian Pilgrim?
@@yds1133 The DaVinci and Elysian Pilgrim pair exceptionally well with both the MIAD01 and the G5. The MIAD01 is excellent for showcasing the resolution and detail of the Pilgrim, although it still sounds slightly more resolving on the G5, with better sub-bass rumble.
On the other hand, the DaVinci sounds fantastic on the MIAD01, offering a clean and detailed sound. However, the G5 adds that final touch of bass slam and impact that makes me nod my head along with the music when using the DaVinci. The G5 provides the DaVinci with that last bit of note weight and heft in the low end.
@@Atechreviews Thank you very much for that wonderful insight. You are the best! It helps me very much. Thank you again 🙏🙇
I had an extensive listen at a headphone expo in China, and was blown away how much powerful the amp in the Moondrop is compared to my Sony Xperia 5 V which also has a built-in 3.5mm jack. The Sony is pretty good on it's own, but the soundstage on Moondrop is incredible. I also listen many unreleased and prototype DAPs at the expo including a full titanium version of the Colorfly CDA-M2, that dac is so much better sounding than the regular CDA-M2 and all they changed was adding a titanium chassis and titanium screws.
Thanks for sharing. I'm glad someone else was as impressed by the sound quality of the MIAD01 as I was. The titanium Colorfly CDA-M2 sounds interesting. In my experience, metal chassis or shells can indeed alter the sound, even for IEMs. It's definitely intriguing.
@@Atechreviews The titanium CDA-M2 paints a much darker background and music is just so much more cohesive. Pretty much it's like adding a noise filter. Listening to the regular version again, and music sounds messy. They said it's extremely difficult to make the titanium shell. Before, I would say the FiiO KA17 beats the regular version but not the titanium. Wanted to buy the Ti version, but they say they might release it this month.
@@cthis4786 Thanks for sharing the news.
Hello, great review. Could you compare this one with one Lg V phone audio wise ?
Hello, the Moondrop MIAD01 offers significantly superior sound quality and power output. It has better detail retrieval, clarity, layering, vocals, instrument separation, imaging, and soundstage. The sound is exceptionally clean and clear, with the added benefit of the balanced 4.4mm output.
Which music player app did you recommend in the review? Thank
Hiby music player. Super fast, has exclusive and performance modes, supports native DSD, lyrics, EQ, plugins, and 10 band PEQ.
@@Atechreviews thank you very much, im going to try that one out :-)
Great review. Its ashame that it just has too many problems for most people and even audiophiles to buy (camera, for me atleast the battery could have been a bit better) but its still an ok phone. Wish they would fix these problems and have a pro version or miad02 or smt.
Thank you! It's understandable that certain aspects like the camera might be limiting factors for some users, even for audiophiles. I believe the sound quality is excellent, and for many people, that might be sufficient. It's a fantastic beginning, especially considering that this is their first phone.
does the miad 1 come with the android playstore? can i install the apps i want? thanks
Yes, it comes with the Google Play Store, so you can install any app you like.
Would Apple Music still sound good (or better) on this device? I have a huge library and would be using it as my primary DSP
Of course.
What you think about 4.4 and hd6xx? I it will be better than 3.5? Maybe in 4.4 bass impact is better? And it drives as well
I don't have a 4.4mm cable for the 6XX. Most likely, it will sound better and have a better bass impact than the 3.5mm because of the doubled power output. The 3.5mm single-ended already sounded great; it just needed that extra power, which I'm sure the 4.4mm will provide.
I use the 2.5mm balanced port on the Qudelix 5k with my HD 650, which is also 4 VRMS of power like the 4.4mm port on the MIAD and it’s enough power/Volume for even a -9db eq!
It’s definitely enough.
@@HereForTheYTpremiumTrial That's great news, and I appreciate you sharing it. 👍
My 6XX's do sound better (especially in the bass department where they lack) with 4.4 cables on my desktop DAC/amp, SMSL M300SE. I still have other preferences to the 6XX's, but at least there was a noticeable difference.
Thank you very much for your parts 1&2 reviews on this moondrop miad01 phone... there are lots of details, which also means you've put in lots of good work on these reviews... based from your reviews, it seems like the phone is missing 3 key features... (1) amp with EQ/DSP, for both 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs ; (2) hi-res music player with bit-rate indicator ; (3) usb-DAC feature when phone is connected to a PC... my guess is that features #2 & #3 might be able to be patched with software, but really not sure about feature #1... if you happen to know a communication channel or forum back to moondrop, hope they can roll out software patch(es) for features #2 & #3...
Thank you for your positive feedback on the reviews! I'm glad you found them detailed and informative.
Regarding the missing features, some could potentially be addressed through software updates, such as changing filters and gain levels. However, implementing an amp with EQ/DSP for both 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs might require additional hardware and might not be achievable through software alone. Adding system-wide EQ through a software update could be a possibility.
Unfortunately, I don't have a direct communication channel with Moondrop. If you're interested in providing feedback to them, I recommend reaching out through their official website or social media channels. They may appreciate hearing your suggestions for future updates or products.

Thanks! Moondrop always has interesting products in the pipeline, so definitely keep an eye out for their future releases!
Just curious... How'd you rate it against the LG V60?
In my opinion, the MIAD01 offers superior sound quality with its dedicated DAC, balanced 4.4mm output, and increased power output. It provides a more detailed and clear sound, allowing you to appreciate all the nuances of the music. The imaging and sound stage capabilities are excellent for a portable device.
On the other hand, the LG V60 offers a slightly more comprehensive smartphone experience. It features a flat edge screen, preinstalled full Google Services, DRM.
Ultimately, your choice depends on your priorities and whether you prioritize audio quality over other smartphone features. If audio quality is your main concern, the MIAD01 is the better option.

Honestly it doesnt look too bad, compared to my current / old One plug 6T it actually looks way better than what my piece of trash is doing w/ pictures. I'm strongly considering it for the price right now. Seems to work w/ T-Mobile GSM bands in the US. Im glad that we finally have high powered audiophile phone back in the market. I hate not having a headphone jack tbh. Honestly I wouldnt mind if they just omited the 4.4 balanced, im totally fine w/ just 3.5 everywhere. Just wished they put the jacks on the bottom instead of the top, You never put a phone back in ur pocket correctly if the jacks are top side.
I've mostly used the phone while holding it, but after thinking about it, I see your point! Having the output jacks at the bottom would've been more convenient.
I just want a knob for volume control and media buttons and i'm sold

@@Opeth1483 I tried it with Sundara, Edition XS, and Ananda. Yes the 4.4 is much better with headphones. Balanced gives you double the voltage swing so much better for headphones. I noticed it in the bass, the dynamics, and overall detail level. I didn't try it with the 6XX because I only use XLR with them, but I ordered an adapter cable online.
I am looking to replace my lg v60 before it just up and dies on me one day. Just kinda sad that outside of audio this thing isn't as fast as my 4 year old phone. The cameras are worse etc. And heck I spent 600$ on the lg and it came with a dual screen phone case. I would really like to see a more premium version come out. And have the decency to come with a case. And I hope they go with a notchless uncurved display. Those curved ones break super easy. And I agree with you some more buttons would be nice for skipping songs etc. it is a music player foremost after all.
Absolutely! Adding a case and implementing the software update with DSP features would be great additions. Here's hoping that future iterations will address these aspects and offer an even better user experience!

I ordered the phone 4 days ago, do you need where to buy glass protector and a case?
Hey where you bought this? I'm searching in Aliexpress and Amazon and nothing...
The phone comes with a factory-installed screen protector that's not made of glass, but it fits so seamlessly that you barely notice it's there. It's super smooth and responsive, and as you can see in part I of my video, the fingerprint function works really well and is quite snappy. Just a question to be clear:
The DSP does not work yet, correct?
Moondrop will bring this by a future software update, right?

Is there any information if the DSP will work system wide?
Hello, The DSP features are not yet available in the phone; they will be included in a future update. Moondrop plans to add them in a future update, but there's no information on when this will occur. That's why there's no setting available yet. Would you please compare its sound ( including the mics , the speakers and the quality of the 3.5mm wired headphone)to LG V60 or V40 and to Sony Xepria 1 V or 1 iii.
In terms of sound quality through the 3.5mm port, the MIAD01 really stands out against both the V40 and V60. It offers much better clarity, definition, separation, and detail retrieval, giving you a neutral sound profile with lots of intricate details. The MIAD01 also does a great job with imaging and soundstage, providing a more immersive experience compared to the LG V60. It also has significantly better power output through the 3.5mm jack and a more precise volume control with 100 steps.
However, I find that the V60 has better speakers, and its microphones are similar or slightly better than those of the MIAD01. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the Sony Xperia as I don't have one. I hope this helps 🙂

I tried it, and as you said, it works and shows the sample rate. However, UAPP has a separate audio driver. I was thinking about Spotify and other apps.

What you can say about this smart phone after a time with it...?
My opinion remains unchanged. I still use the MIAD01 as a secondary phone/DAP for its great sound. However, it can't and will not replace my main phone for several reasons. I use it primarily for listening to Spotify and Tidal while browsing the web or watching videos, and for these purposes, it excels. It loads 5000 songs in a second and is very responsive. Webpages and apps load quickly. Although it hasn't replaced my main phone, I use it extensively for music and video playback and streaming. Great display and battery life. I use it more like a DAP with streaming capabilities that I can take anywhere. Its light weight makes it easy to carry everywhere.

The Hiby R4 is a fantastic device. Carrying two phones can be a bit inconvenient, but the MIAD01 is a DAP in a way 🙂
For a flagship with a Hi Res DAC, take a look at the Vivo X90 Pro. There is a global version and has a built in CS43131 - no headphone jack but using a cheap analog Moto Z dongle, it sounds great and supports Hifi mode for most major apps. Great camera as well. Device specs dont show the DAC on the X100 Pro so it might not be Hi Res Cirrus Logic anymore. Moondrop needs to consider a Pro version with flagship specs and Google Play cheers
I believe the standout feature of this phone is its high-quality 3.5mm and 4.4mm audio output jacks.
@@Atechreviews agreed it's a massive inconvenience to lug around any dongle - another standout is the Vivo Nex S - also global but latest was Android 10 however camera might be superior to this and that has the CS43198 with independent amps and sounds to my ears better than my LG G8X for example :)

@@mr.kentam OK, will do later.
@@Atechreviewsis this beyond the app used for revanced?
@@AnomieDomine No, that app should be enough for most uses.
Nice video overall. I would suggest if you were to compare phone features like camera and speakers again, compare to products at a similar price (e.g. Samsung A35/A55). It makes no sense to compare to a flagship 800$ S23 ultra, though as I understand, the MIAD is still lacking in the phone department even compared to those mid-range options
Also without proper recording equipment, viewers cannot judge any sound quality/volume demo. I understand you want to show it, but it's objectively meaningless without proper setup
Finally, you should easily be able to find out if the outputs are bypassing Android resampling by using any streamer which shows sampling rate and bit depth. Even apple music gives you a hint as on normal phones with android versions lower than 14, certain 'Hi-Res Lossless' songs will just not play if you set the audio quality to that. I believe this is not an issue on the MIAD as I've seen others demonstrate it does bypass android resampling, but do check to confirm
Thanks! Thank you for your feedback and suggestions! I don't have other phones except for a similar Pixel 8 Pro, so I thought providing any picture of comparison would be beneficial. However, I understand your point about comparing to devices at a similar price point. Regarding the audio demo, I agree that it may not have been the best idea, and I won't include similar demos in the future. As for the Android resampling bypass, you're right that it depends on the app you're using. Many apps don't show that. Despite this, I find the sound quality of the MIAD01 impressive.
Just as always , one size do not fit all , its just how it is and FYI , Moondrop did confirm that bit perfect is being implemented at the system level , and they will probide their own music player app in future update
Could you share where this information is confirmed? Regardless, it sounds fantastic. Having their own music player is great news, and I've heard they plan to add new DSP features as well.

I find the main camera decent, even in low-light conditions. It performs adequately, as shown in the pictures. I believe the camera on the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro will be superior. However, if music is a priority for you, I suggest going for it. 👍

Uhmm.. Don't know,. I think I stick with my LG v40 for the moment. Didn't ever feel the need for a 4.4 connection, since it automatically switches gain when required. I would be interested in a comparison between this phone and an LG because of the different DACs resp. their implementation.
A comparison between the two phones would indeed be interesting.
I wish they made it a 5 inches phone so we can use as second device becos the camera suck 😅..carrying two big device can be inconvenient.. i do know that the second gen will be a nice upgrade ..first gen product doesnt always feel complete ..but this is looks promising but the price should be $250-$300 tops

Moondrop literally says on their page for the Miad 01 that the camera is not good but works, should probably take their word for it
Correct.
Is this phone have gyroscope??
Yes.
Genuinely interesting for a normie like me who just wants to have a decently priced phone with audio capabilities. On a One plus 6, and the camera and storage on this thing are really crummy, so what I see here isn't bad to me. Not really concerned with Google services, if anything sounds like a plus...But alas, this phone still works...just tempting.
No systen wide EQ is jarring though.
System-wide EQ is a feature that can really enhance the audio experience. I believe it could be included when they introduce the global DSP features in the upcoming update.
kinda feel a bit sad because of it's camera capability but I guess it is what it is..
I think that was expected. But it is what it is.
As an audiophile phone, the camera specs will probably be ignored by the majority who purchase.
I am pretty sure the moondrop phone bypasses the src at system level. All the chinese reviewers with review samples claimed that.
While reviewers are free to "claim" anything, it's important to remember that their statements are not always reflective of official features or capabilities of a product. As of now, there's no official confirmation that the phone can bypass the SRC, and this feature isn't advertised. Regardless of this capability, the phone still sounds great and has exceeded my expectations.
@@Atechreviewsthe phones page on the MOONDROP website actually says it does bypass in one of the pictures detailing the phone
It looks like the lens has finger prints (hazy) on them.
That's because I've been using it all day, both indoors and outdoors. So when I picked it up, my fingers were often near the camera.
It is very unfortunate to see a dedicated phone for music to have poor stereo speakers and poor mics for recording.
They just used their DAC only and the MT cheap chipsets and cheap equibments forgetting that the audiophiles love to listen to a good music from every outlet there is and if they record something they like it to have a decent sound .
I see where you're coming from. It looks like they prioritized the DAC chip and sound quality. Since it's their first phone, they probably had to make certain choices to keep it at a specific price point.
Subscribe to you, the reviews are not very good, but heartfelt
Thank you. I'm open to any suggestions for improvement you may have.
Really ? MIAD 01 sound peformance is above hiby R6 III which is more expensive?
You're absolutely right! The MIAD01 performs exceptionally well, even compared to the more expensive Hiby R6 III. It excels in clarity, detail retrieval, imaging, and soundstage, offering a significant improvement. The MIAD01's sound signature is distinct, being cleaner, clearer, and more neutral than the warmer sound of the Hiby R6 III. It's quite impressive, especially considering its price point.
So, in term of sound peformance the order is G5>Miad 01>R6 iii ?
@@bayuyusuf1333
For me, I'd rank them like this:
1. G5
2. MIAD01
3. R6III/R4
The choice between the R6III and R4 really comes down to personal preference. I lean towards the R4, but I can see why someone might prefer the R6III. While the R4 is much cheaper than the R6III, it's all about what kind of sound you like.
Personally, I find the R4 offers better detail retrieval and strikes a nice balance between a Class A sound and detailed without being harsh. The R6III, on the other hand, sounds a bit too warm for me. I prefer to hear lots of details in my music.
I have a video coming up about the R4, but in my opinion, the MIAD01 is in a league of its own compared to the R4 and R6III. Hope this helps!
Camera is not horrible?
No, not horrible. You have the phone now, you could check it out yourself 🙂
For $400...if it had more power/gain it would be an easy sell as a backup phone and DAP, but if it's dongle quality it's a waste
The sound quality is better than most dongles. However, in terms of power, it's similar to the top powerful dongles out there.
I expected that from moondrop quality, I bought their iem & the paint is Peel off easily in short time
Apart from the paint chipping issue, Moondrop's quality is quite solid. I believe this phone will maintain that quality and avoid paint issues due to the materials used in its design.
So basically just view this as a dap with extra features instead of a main phone
As you can see, this phone serves as a main phone. Its standout feature, however, is its audio capabilities.
@Atechreviews I just mean the specs don't compare to other mid range phones, but as a dap, it's not a terrible price when factoring in the phone features. I have a samsung s23 ultra so everything else is going to be a downgradeanyways, just getting it as a dedicated audio player so I don't run down my battery overnight or on the go.
@@Th3Shrike You're correct about the specs. I think the price reflects the audio features and output jacks. I'm using it as a DAP too, with the added benefit of streaming, to save my main phone's battery, just as you mentioned.

I’ll add that special players have a display of the sampling frequency for the track being played, such as hiby, but the product is designed for a non-specific mass buyer, and Android smartphone applications for mass listeners prefer Spotify, why do they need these frequency designations?
ua-cam.com/video/2KTtn2PRg9s/v-deo.html this is what I wrote about above, on a regular Android smartphone the sound is processed by a DAC built into a qualcom or mediatek processor, the point of this moondrop is to have high resolution sound with any sound and from any source processed by a special DAC amplifier, without the need to connect external amplifiers which are undoubtedly inconvenient and have serious restrictions, it makes you freer
I think the speaker uses a MediaTek chip, but when you're using apps like Spotify or UA-cam with the 3.5mm and 4.4mm connections, they switch to Cirrus Logic DAC chips.
Just as they claimed, usable, not great, enough for scanning QR codes... they even included a watermark claiming this phone as a QR code scanning camera, lol
They deserve credit for their honesty. 👍
Chipset is dual cs43131, Not the best, i guess they don't want to show that and get laughed at.
My guess is that they used seperated power design so that the dac board gets decent clean power, instead of having to rely on the inconsistent USB power like USB dacs. At least that's what the Boss(and he is the core engineer too) of Moondrop hinted in one of his interviews.
Wow, thanks for sharing this valuable information. Do you have a source for that? The CS43131 is a nice chip, and if implemented correctly, it could sound fantastic. Thanks for keeping us informed! 👍👍👍
That's a great point! The separate power supply design, along with the shielding they've mentioned, could indeed be crucial factors in achieving the sound quality they aimed for. Thanks for sharing this valuable information! 👍

Where is a proof? I think is bang for the buck in terms of sound quality.
I think it's a decent phone with outstanding sound quality, surpassing all the DAPs I've shown in my video and any I've tried under $500. Running on Android 13, it's faster with a better display than any DAP I've encountered, regardless of price. There's zero lag, making it great for watching videos. Apps install in just 2 seconds, and it's lighter than any DAP, making it pocket-friendly. Despite the competitive smartphone market, its value shines through, especially considering it's their first entry into the smartphone market at a competitive price, with more features to come.

Secondly, I must admit that my singing skills are not up to par. I wish I could sing better!
Thirdly, I'm sorry to hear that the video didn't meet your expectations. Everyone has unique preferences when it comes to audio gear, and what appeals to one person may not appeal to another. In my review, I aimed to present the MIAD01 objectively, showcasing both its strengths and weaknesses without bias. Drawing from my modest 25 years of experience as an audiophile, I can confidently say that, in my opinion, the MIAD01 surpasses the R6III in sound quality and offers more detail than the BTR7. I conducted thorough side-by-side tests with various IEMs and headphones, and the differences were significant.
Technology is advancing rapidly, and smaller, more affordable devices now offer audio quality that was unimaginable just 10 years ago. I encourage you to listen for yourself and draw your own conclusions. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised
As I'm seeing the MIAD10 is just a glorified Xaomi or a Poco but is worst on almost everything apart from screen... overpriced and basic that can't be really good at nothing...! Just another snake-oil product from Moondrop...!

@@jaybrodnax Why shouldn't it be close enough? I really struggle to pick up what
small signal accuracy at -301db does for the soundstage. IRL, I can't distinguish between Mojo 2 and the Topping DX9 when volume matched on any audio gear I own. If there are differences in Chord DACs, they are totally inaudible(atleast to me). The only thing that matters is a pitch black background and no colouration to the sound, and there are many well designed DACs that can do it. EQ and DSP(tweaking the filter) is where it can start to have subtle differences but they are so small that I'm sure 99.9% of people don't even have the gear, let alone the hearing to tell the differences.
