- Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to announce the company's plans to decelerate the expansion of its Supercharger network. According to reports, this strategic shift has prompted Tesla to implement layoffs within the division responsible for the Supercharger infrastructure.
Yahoo Finance's Pras Subramanian breaks down the details and provides insights into the company's move to reportedly cut "gigacasting" manufacturing as well.

They can self drive to their next job.
the company that actually made the gigapress was acquired by GM last year.
You almost sound, as silly as this may sound... adversarial with Musk.
No intelligent person, especially people that call themselves climate advocates would turn on Musk just because govt wanted to get credit for EV adoption.
Since I clarified the fact that there will be no Model 2, and instead Elon insists on his sick obsession with the so-called "Robotaxi", I no longer want to hear about Tesla. By the way, I have owned, for 3 years, a Dacia Spring electric car, which cost the fabulous amount of ... 8,000 euros (after subsidies), half of the cheapest petrol smoker on the market, and I have the battery guaranteed for 8 years. The car has an average consumption of 10.5 kWh/100km, equivalent to 1.5 l/100 km of petrol, compared to the 10 l/100km my old car used on petrol. In 3 years, I saved approximately 4,000 euros just from the difference in fuel price, not to mention that I have practically no maintenance on the electric car (I no longer change engine oil, transmission oil, filters, distribution, spark plugs, etc.). In 6 years, the price paid for the electric car will be fully amortized, it will be as if I had received the car for free.
It's funny that you think that that company will be around in 8 years. It's much funnier than you question musk's judgment and you think you know better.
The spring car wouldn't even be in business if it wasn't for the government subsidies.
Most automakers are pivoting away from EVs and towards more new gas engines. Easier said than done for Tesla, producing a competitive modern engine, isn't like wiring up some batteries to a motor, it's a little more complex. This is why EV-only makers went bust over 100 years ago.
No surprise. Tesla sold a lot of cars last year due to the chip shortage and huge markups for other automakers. That's all changed with the mass market rejecting EVs and huge demand for hybrids and PHEVs (good luck buying one from Toyota). Today, the market for EVs has completely collapsed. Thus, Tesla must downsize dramatically to survive the year. They will have to fire a whole lot more people to avoid bankruptcy.
First of all, like you know Jack sht about the future of this brand new market Musk created and second of all you almost sound positive about these bad things happening. You're not another sheep of the media are you? I mean...youre of course rooting for Tesla...aren't you?
A great opportunity for other charging networks to pick up some excellent talent.
Yeah, good luck finding a company in this space that starts hiring after Elon Musk laid people off.
@@metaldreams3595 - all the charging companies will snatch up that talent. The result will likely be that the other networks will become more reliable and easier to deploy.
As a long-time Tesla owner, I'm stoked honestly...
I don't want to compete w/ other brands at Tesla chargers, as I have to maneuver around long queues as it is.
Right, the whole reason to buy a Tesla was to have the best charging. The gov. was also kicking in money. So that really means EV adoption is going to be way slower than previously thought.
Well, let's pool together the geniuses in this comment section and see if we could figure out how to run a laundromat.
Listen...believe this...if Musk didn't lay these people off...like if he was you or any of the wildly intelligent commenters here and didn't lay them off....there wouldn't be a Tesla in a couple years.
So weird the guys telling us what other analysts are saying. And hes an analyst.
Then you have the chick that actually questikns Musks decision. Baffles the mind.
First🎉
Do you need 500 engineers designing gas pumps? No. Its a solved problem. Same for EV charging.
This isn't your thing Baby...go to hiking and camping videos and make a real statement
If Tesla survives im sure elon will have a long line of the best talent lined up excited to work for him after watching twitter ruining and ruthless firing then repeated at tesla. Pathetic
