Bolero is a 1934 American pre-Code musical drama film starring George Raft and Carole Lombard, and directed by Wesley Ruggles. The Paramount production was a rare chance for Raft to star and to play a dancer, which had been his profession in New York City, rather than portraying a gangster. The film takes its title from the Maurice Ravel composition Boléro (1928). The supporting cast includes William Frawley, Ray Milland, and Sally Rand.
    Initial release: February 23, 1934
    Directors: Wesley Ruggles, Mitchell Leisen
Screenplay: Kubec Glasmon, Horace Jackson, Carey Wilson, Ruth Ridenour
Music composed by: Maurice Ravel, Ralph Rainger
Story by: Kubec Glasmon, Carey Wilson

It wasn't any trouble it was a labor of love. One for George Raft and two for the public who has not seen this movie ever. It seems a lot of his movies have gotten shelved, lost or in terrible condition and they never should have. I will be putting more on slowly what they allow me to do. By the way, I have George Rafts Facebook page and Group and I started that so his legacy wouldn't get lost forever. Thanks for commenting.

@@hollywood-thegoldenage5310 Thanks so much! This was a most interesting film. What a way to go, eh?! The ending was well handled - touching without being overdone. Carole Lombard was simply luminous, as always. And "young" Willliam Frawley - nice job. Looking forward to more of your "legacy" films.

This film was a trip! My mom used to be George Rafts dance partner back in the early 40s before he became famous. Mama was a great dancer and danced with Raft, Cesar Romero and Anthony Quinones(QUIN) ! Ballroom dancing was the thing back then. She was only 17 years old and worked in the factory packing parachutes. The funny thing is she married my dad who didn’t dance at all.....

Lombard was noted for her salty language and love of practical jokes. She commented during her marriage to Clark Gable, " I love the guy but he isn't the greatest in the sack." When asked who was. She replied, "George Raft." He was a legendary lover according to his biographer.

Thanks for uploading these George Raft movies, for some reason his films fell into obscurity more so than the other "tough guy" actors of his time. I hope they stay here. I watched "Bolero" "Rumba" & "Dancers in the Dark" yesterday. I always wanted to see Raft dance he was good at it. His dancing is different from James Cagney.
I stumbled onto a site of very rare obscure Humphrey Bogart movies 12 years ago & I downloaded most of them. I posted many of them here 2 years ago & then they got deleted by You Tube.

These are what we watched in old movie houses. He's 91 now & still watch & talk about old movies. It was a bit of a scandal at the time, but it and some other films sadly ,opened the door to censorship and what was once Erotic and sublime was turned into the postcode films that ended with the god awful Pillow Talk with Rock Hudson and Doris Day which was about as light and frothy as a film could be. But hey it put bums in seats!
But to this film the acting is wanting no matter how much the camera liked Carol Lombard this was early in her career and it shows.Geprge Raft like James Cagney was a hoofer so he knew how to dance and very well I might add.
The Bolero was hacked to pieces and watching the black drummers in the background play out of sync was amusing but hey,its Hollywood .

Now that I've seen this dance to Ravel's Bolero, I'm inclined to believe that Torville & Dean"s 1984 Olympic Bolero performance was inspired by this version & was less original than I thought at the time. Truly modern for 1931; 1984, not so much.

George Raft got his opportunity in films for 2 reasons; [1] He resembled Rudolf Valentino, and [2] he, like Valentino, was a gifted dancer. His 'wise guy' personality though was, in the eyes of the studio chiefs, more suited to the tough guy roles; e g in "Each Dawn I Die" with yet another great 'hoofer' James Cagney.
