I was a pretty avid truck watcher as a kid in the 1970s, and Diamond Reos were not common even then. I believe UPS ran them as cabover day-cabs, (the model where the lower section 'platforms' out) often pulling doubles, on I70 in Ohio. It was tough to tell with UPS, as they debadged all of their trucks, but I can tell you that they were still running Crackerbox and White 5000 day-cabs in the early '80s, in addition to just about every cabover day-cab of the day, except Kenworth and Peterbilt. And I could identify all of them, except for the Crackerbox because it was a day-cab, and the White 5000, a truck which remained a mystery until I discovered Hank's Truck Pictures in the mid-2000s. If they had run sleepers, I would've ID'ed the Crackerbox immediately. I'd just love it if you could get into a UPS terminal and maybe catch some pictures of their old trucks in their day! So are those Astro doors on the Royale???
I’m with ya on UPS, I forgot that I do remember them using those diamond Rios. Never saw cracker boxes, but saw many manyMack F models. Not sure about GMC doors.
Yeah that was my Daddy's last truck a 72 cab over Diamond Rio 318 Detroit Whit a 13 speed I would give anything to have it back I would wait for him to leave and I would take it up the Haller and one day I got busted when I broke one of the cab sports dut he didn't get to mad he said shit happens 😅
Speaking of the diamond reos. There was a company not to awfully far from you that had a whole fleet of diamond reos pulling mostly flatbeds. I think it was called Williams trucking. They were blue and white. But i know back in the 80s and 90s. Youd see them in alot of the steel mills around pittsburg and youngstown
