Nice Razor I have been watching your videos for a while I lived in Idaho from middle school through High School then went into the Army so it's nice seeing a fellow Idahoian find success not only with a business but a youtube channel as well!
I don't even shave anymore and I would be proud to own that Straight Razor. Can't say "They don't make 'em like they used to" with you. Awesome work man.
Nicely done. An unplanned side effect of watching this for me was the decision to buy more wheels for my 2 x 72, so this was an expensive few minutes for me!
Love the aesthetic of this razor. The smooth wood finish in the handle meets the roughness of the forged finish, meets the precision of the blade. Beautiful.
Straight razor grips are not normally made of wood as it will warp with repeated exposure to hot water as you shave, ebonite, horn, bone, or ivory are preferred as they are not affected by the hot water even after decades of use!
It’s been great watching your skills. I live in the UK AND ITS HARD TO FIND GOOD KNIVES HERE. I recently bought a Perkin bush knife, im no knife maker but the price of what the web site was showing for their knives made in the UK was really affordable for such nice looking knives. I waited over 8 weeks and when it arrived dissolution started Damascus blade, nothing like the picture dimensions and thickness of cutting edge differed from one end to the other. Handle buffalos horn either side of tang visually different in thickness, and cracks and dents on horn, Damascus finish really ruff. And to top it all the knives on the web site all made in Pakistan not UK. So when i look at my knife and look at the ones you are making no competition.
I’ve been following the channel for a while now and am always curious about new and different projects. You’re the main trigger that I took up knifemaking and even did a bladesmithing course a week ago. So thanks for the awesome work and inspiration. Keep it up :)
And when I first subscribed to your channel I think you were at about 15k and still a long way from moving to Texas. Well now, THAT didn't take long! It's been great watching your content and seeing the channel grow! Be safe, stay healthy and God bless you and your family. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I really appreciate that you explain science behind the design elements. I’ve always wondered how they maintained the edge on the strop. Brings back found memories of the old time barbershop I grew up with.
Thank you kind sir I appreciate the chance to win one of your creations. Not that I trust myself to use it on myself or anyone else but it is still a beautiful piece of work. Thank you ever so much GOD bless stay safe. ✌️🇨🇦
@bashiruzainab I don’t know whether I did something wrong or not but I sent my email address to you. Good day sir thank you for your response. I push the little checkmark and this is what came up so I hope I did something right. Talk at you later, sir thank you.
I had a hell of a time trying to forge 01 steel with my rudimentary forging setup. Any little bit off on temperature and it would crack apart and it was HARD AS HELL to forge by hand especially compared to something like 1084 or W1.
Got a beard for the first time in 30 years, watching you shave was hard to watch. If I win, and my wife says lose the beard, it would only be your knife to do it!! 😊 love the channel!
The spacer should only contact the handle of the razor, if the blade edge is contacting anything in the handle it will dull much quicker and if you do not have a proper stone it could begin to cause cuts and razor burn, simply stropping will not overcome this problem and I have never seen any modern company selling a stone capable of safely sharpening a straight razor, I use a straight razor and had to track down an antique stone as they are far finer than anything produced for sharpening knives.
Been following for little while now but I love the work you’ve been doing and appreciating the info as to why you do things in a way that would be abnormal for some to optimise costs and efficiency. Especially the wood lathe video, would like to know how the cane sword finished up… hint hint (photo would nice) Love shaving with a straight razor so was very naturally drawn to this video. The handle are called Scales and would normally have brass bushing between the scales and tang as to aid a baring style, this is due to tool being used in a humid environment and as such the scale material will alter in its dimensions, especially wood hence you see a lot of old straight razors using horn or bone for the scales. Tolerances tend to be key, as after time the blade will stick and be harder to unsheathe safely, hence another reason for the bushing. Hope that helps. Love the video and that you mentioned hollow grinds. It’s definitely a very particular knowledge of blade smith that makes straight razors, Germany and France are the only two countries I know of that still pump them out to a demand. (Dovo and Thiers-Issad) Which is not to say other countries make brilliant a SR. Loving the fact that your educating yourself to keep a trade going, shaving with a straight razor if done carefully and skilfully can not be beaten… hands down. Keep up the good work. Happy Christmas to yourself and your family.
That is a beautiful blade. And if I’m lucky, it will be fate. I recently decided to try my hand at using a straight razor but I don’t want to buy a cheap one and haven’t yet justified buying a good quality (expensive) one. Either way, we’ll done and (when it happens) congrats on 100k
Hope you forge more of these in the future. I'd love to get my hands on one. You should try a three pin scale setup. That way, the edge is not resting against phenolic. Awesome job!
This was an awesome tutorial! Great skill and beautiful end product! I have major tool and anvil envy. I’m so impressed by the finished product! Great work and craftsmanship!
This was such a cool build. Seeing the way you "etched" the makers mark was fascinating. One day I'll have my own shop so I can stop living vicariously though my favorite craftsmen. Looking forward to the next video's.
Beautiful 😍 A true master forger at his highlight. I Would love to own one. Hopefully, you will have time to make others for sale in the future. Many thanks for your videos showing your skillset.
My father taught me how to shave with a straight razor, wish I had his, and would like to show my son how to use one. this razor would be a nice gift for him along with some bonding time for us. Stay safe!
you make it look so easy and I love your videos. haven't dared to go ahead and make a straight razor myself but want to try 😁 keep going and make them cool videos best regards Johnny from Denmark
Looks amazing! I do a little blacksmithing myself and have had a lot of interest in forging a straight razor. I learned a few things from this video. Thanks!
For forging material I have gone more the way of rectangular stuff, and have completely quit recycled materials after having a piece of spring and two bearing knives crack. I ended up adding up the cost of my propane and electricity that goes into making steel the right dimensions to make stuff, plus my time and how much that is worth. I only have weekends to forge, and only some of those weekends are actually available so I make the most of my time as I don't have much, and I figure I'd make more use of half an hour at work than half an hour straightening a piece of a mediocre steel alloy. Whatever you find works best and actually saves you the most money when you consider the time and consumables that go into things. particularly if you run a business like yourself. Good that you're considering that, but may be checking again if you didn't take everything into account just in case.
It was really fascinating seeing the razor take shape. It is often taken for granted that straight razors are easy to manufacture, but you have shown that good razor takes a lot more effort and skill. Great work! It was a joy to watch.
Not a knife maker, however love knives. Always enjoy your insight on the steel and the forging. I hope 100K comes soon, would be more than happy to win this straight razor. Thanks for your commitment to your channel.
I came across your channel a few weeks ago and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Really enjoy the format. Thank you for creating very informative and interesting videos.
That's gorgeous. I would love that. My dad always used a straight razor to shave with, but I was always too scared. However I have done it a few times and it is really nice and you don't get the burn like I get from regular razors. Never cut my hair with one though. That'd be new.
Awesome job you did on that, thank you so much for showing all these processes, very interesting. Congrats on breaking ninety thousand, 100K is on the way! Have fun, be safe, enjoy the holiday season.
Nice Razor I have been watching your videos for a while I lived in Idaho from middle school through High School then went into the Army so it's nice seeing a fellow Idahoian find success not only with a business but a youtube channel as well!
Thank you!
Hope you reach 100k soon. Enjoy your builds.
Thanks!
I've been contemplating getting a straight razor. What better way than try and get one from my favorite UA-cam Bladesmith.
Nice little build, really enjoyed watching it 🙂
Awesome razor! I remember watching my uncle use 1 when I was a kid.
I don't even shave anymore and I would be proud to own that Straight Razor. Can't say "They don't make 'em like they used to" with you. Awesome work man.
Fantastic work Elijah. Anyone would be thrilled to own such a gorgeous razor.
Nicely done. An unplanned side effect of watching this for me was the decision to buy more wheels for my 2 x 72, so this was an expensive few minutes for me!
Your channel has been a pleasure to watch and relax too amazing work and can wait to see more projects from you
I enjoy watching an artist at work creating something out of raw material. Keep forging.
Austin from MMS posted this on his page. Good work, looks like an awesome straight razor!
Awesome, thanks Austin!!
I’ve had my beard over 2 decades and I can’t imagine shaving it, but I would still be honored to win that razor brother! Great vid 👍
Love the aesthetic of this razor. The smooth wood finish in the handle meets the roughness of the forged finish, meets the precision of the blade. Beautiful.
Never made a straight razor, they're pretty complicated things and you're very brave putting it near your face!
Yes sir they are more difficult to build than meets the eye
enjoyed watching this video, learned a little and laughed a little at myself for somethings I had been wrong about , cool razor great channel
Just love you explaining so much … never gets boring and always picking some new stuff up 👍🏻👍🏻
fantastic content, details and commentary, regards dapper shaves
Straight razor grips are not normally made of wood as it will warp with repeated exposure to hot water as you shave, ebonite, horn, bone, or ivory are preferred as they are not affected by the hot water even after decades of use!
That looked almost perfect.

Nice, excited to see you make more.
Nicely done! Love straight razors.
Thank you kind sir I appreciate the chance to win one of your creations. Not that I trust myself to use it on myself or anyone else but it is still a beautiful piece of work. Thank you ever so much GOD bless stay safe. ✌️🇨🇦
My email is all small letters, and it should be doug
@bashiruzainab I don’t know whether I did something wrong or not but I sent my email address to you. Good day sir thank you for your response. I push the little checkmark and this is what came up so I hope I did something right. Talk at you later, sir thank you.
I was thinking "NO way is he going to shave the LOT?", But lovely craftmanship as per usual.
Being a barber and a forging fan, this was fun to watch! Came out looking great!
agreed, wonderful to watch, regards dapper shaves
make a yt channel where you forge your own equipment
I had a hell of a time trying to forge 01 steel with my rudimentary forging setup. Any little bit off on temperature and it would crack apart and it was HARD AS HELL to forge by hand especially compared to something like 1084 or W1.
Yep O1 is a steel that has a less forgiving temperature range than many
Can't wait to try and make one!
Very nice razors I enjoy your videos and look forward to new projects
Looks Beautiful! Always fun seeing someone try something new and learning.
it’s been a joy to watch this channel grow so much over the past year or so
Thanks, I appreciate the support!
I would like to shave with a custom straight razor! I enjoy your work. Keep it up!
Looks awesome. Look forward to you hitting 100k Merry Christmas
Why do I feel like this is scam
I really enjoy watching your bladesmithing videos. And nice work on the straight razor!
fantastic content, details and commentary, regards dapper shaves
I'm glad that I found this channel. I always enjoy your work, thank you for sharing with us.
Nice work. Glad to see someone make one while playing attention to that spine thickness to width ratio for sharpening.
Cool build. Not sure could shave my face with one either!
nice razor...always good watching your content...thanks
Thanks for watching!
Very cool piece, you'll be at your goal in no time.
Getting into delicate work, I like it. So many transferable skills that can be applied to all different builds

I see, thanks for the info
Love your videos. The way you narrate really brings the process to life, and you do great work.
What an awesome project/piece! I really live the fact that you are working outside the normal! Thanks for sharing Elijah!

This build kept me so interested I had to watch it twice. Learned so many things in such a short bang-bell time!
This is easily my favorite forging channel if not my favorite all around channel, beautiful work as always! Can’t wait for the next vid
Great job on the razor, I love your videos and craftsmanship!!
According to a google image search on 'straight razor anatomy' the handle is commonly called a 'scale'
Cool, thanks!
Nice razor, I can't wait to see your next one.
I've been watching this channel for some time now. I've realy injoyed watch you build your skills. This channel should grow. Well done my friend.
Dang I swear this channel had like 14k when I got here a few months ago, it’s well deserved cheers fire creek! Here’s hoping for 100k
Gorgeous work.
I’ve been wanting a good straight razor for a while. Would be cool to get this one
LOVE IT ESPECIALLY THE FACT THAT YOU LEFT THE FORGE MARKINGS GREAT BLADE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL DESIGN GREAT CRAFTSMANSHIP THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT
I have been shaving with straight razor for years now. The sharpening does need a bit of practice, but at least no need to buy refills. EVER.
That is a beautiful blade.
And if I’m lucky, it will be fate. I recently decided to try my hand at using a straight razor but I don’t want to buy a cheap one and haven’t yet justified buying a good quality (expensive) one.

Hope you forge more of these in the future. I'd love to get my hands on one. You should try a three pin scale setup. That way, the edge is not resting against phenolic. Awesome job!
After many years making hunting and culinary knives, I found razor making to be much more challenging. Nice content, well done, thank you for sharing!
This was an awesome tutorial! Great skill and beautiful end product!
I have major tool and anvil envy.
I’m so impressed by the finished product! Great work and craftsmanship!
fantastic content, details and commentary, regards dapper shaves
Turned out quite nice; for a 1st try to the finish, I'm impressed.
Crafting the handle seemed as equally challenging as the blade.
The time and patience is second to none
The work ethic is truly inspiring
Well done
This was such a cool build. Seeing the way you "etched" the makers mark was fascinating. One day I'll have my own shop so I can stop living vicariously though my favorite craftsmen. Looking forward to the next video's.
Nicely done, luv straight razors & that would be an awesome addition to the collection 😍
Beautiful 😍 A true master forger at his highlight.
I Would love to own one. Hopefully, you will have time to make others for sale in the future. Many thanks for your videos showing your skillset.
Excellent work. The razor is a beauty.
Thank you very much!
Dude! That's awesome! Loved seeing that made! The way you for the spacer & the spacer shape were super cool! Loved it!
My father taught me how to shave with a straight razor, wish I had his, and would like to show my son how to use one. this razor would be a nice gift for him along with some bonding time for us. Stay safe!
Greetings....awesome looking razor. Ive learned alot from your channel.

Turned out nice. Should last whoever gets it a long while.
For your first completed razor, I believe it came out great and works well also. Keep up the great content.
fantastic content, details and commentary, regards dapper shaves
Really great skill, would love to tidy up my beard with it.
I do some smithing, and believe from observing your build, that it has a very big learning curve. Good work!
Looks great. I've always been enamored of straight razors. My grandpa used one and I thought it was so cool.
Looks great! (and sharp)
I enjoy watching your videos and learning all the different things about the metals and the techniques you use. Great content!!
That straight razor is 🔥🔥🔥
Looks amazing! I do a little blacksmithing myself and have had a lot of interest in forging a straight razor. I learned a few things from this video. Thanks!
I love how you go into detail explaining what you do. Very much enjoy learning from fire creek forge

You bet, since I have equipment to forge dimensions down easily the round bar is feasible but that's not true for everyone
@@FireCreekForge Yeah, I guess with me not owning a press or power hammer I take much more time to do this stuff
This was one of my favorite projects. A nice change of pace!
Beautiful work. The shaving community would love more of these
that for sure, more please. fantastic content, details and commentary, regards dapper shaves
Enjoy the contents of your videos . Missed seeing cameos of your littles today. God bless and have a great day.
Awesome. Love the honesty about your work during trail and errors.
Good to see you were willing to use yourself as a shave tester!
It was really fascinating seeing the razor take shape. It is often taken for granted that straight razors are easy to manufacture, but you have shown that good razor takes a lot more effort and skill. Great work! It was a joy to watch.
Love the razor! It’s so awesome
Not a knife maker, however love knives. Always enjoy your insight on the steel and the forging. I hope 100K comes soon, would be more than happy to win this straight razor. Thanks for your commitment to your channel.
Awesome razor! I’ve been using a straight razor for the last few years and I love it!
Your razor came out great!
This would be an awesome addition to my small collection of old straight razors! Kudos sir
I came across your channel a few weeks ago and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Really enjoy the format. Thank you for creating very informative and interesting videos.

Thank you!
Great job on that razor! That is super cool. Don't know that I'd have the guts to shave with it but it's still awesome.
