Hogganfield Loch, feeding the swans and ducks, and catching tiddlers with a fishing net, sandwiches wrapped up in loaf paper which we shared between us, a bottle of ginger which everyone had a slugg from, we didn't have fancy stuff but made the best of what we did have. 🙂
Simple day out, but truly wonderful! I remember going out on the rowing boats. I have a photo somewhere of us in the boat, whilst my Dad was doing the rowing. My Mum and I are both wearing dresses! Ha! Stepped carefully into the boat and out of. Never gave it a second thought ;)
Amazing footage!.Wellpark St..The Meat Market and Waterworks..My Aunt and Uncle had the Dairy at Barrack St you mention. My other Aunt lived above at No 142 and my Sister across the landing. And my other Aunt lived at No 130...I too was born in Duke St Hospital in 1965..Just before they demolished Barrack St the Dairy moved round the corner on Duke St..The back of that shop was behind the washhouse wall seen in the football footage..
I spoke with my Dad yesterday and he also remembers the dairy. He said when I was just a few months old we lived in the close next to the dairy, on the ground floor. My Auntie Peggy Collier lived on Barrack Street as well. Cheers!
Yes. My grandparents, Dad, uncle and aunt. The children are my brother and me. We did not know the film even existed until the 1990's. A friend of the family came across it - a real treasure. :)
Yes, that is the meat market Brian. My granda would take me there to see the cows being auctioned off when I was a wee girl. I had forgotten the name of the street (Melbourne St), Thnx.
Hi there. Just saw your post. I was also born in Duke Street hospital - in 1961. My Gran and Granda Strutt lived on Wellpark Street in the 1960's, but I don't know the close number.
Sandra Strutt When everyone was at the window. It reminded me so much of our tenement in Wellpark Street. I went to St Mary’s primary Abercrombie Street. I remember passing the meat market going to and from school.
@@TheKathie20 The tenement was either on Wellpark Street or around the corner on Barrack Street. My Auntie Peggy Collier lived on Barrack Street. I lived on Edmund Street (off Ark Lane) and I attended Golfhill Primary School. I stayed with my Auntie Peggy on weekends and my brother stayed with our grandparents on weekends. We have the best memories. I remember there was a shop on Barrack Street - a dairy shop, I think.

Nice video.
My grandparents lived at 17 Wellpark Street. I have fond memories of those days. Sadly the buildings have long gone.
So many of the tenement buildings were torn down in that area. Just memories now, but happy ones for me also.
