Remember scraping the timber short extension with old bits of broken glass before sanding then applying new varnish, 😢

That's how it used to be riding in the back of a Dennis. Timber seats, steel railings to hang on to, no seat belts. Use of SCBA only as a last resort.

Yorkhill fire station. Takes a trip to Anderston. Can see Kent Road, Elderslie, Argyle, Gilbert and Kelvinhaugh Streets.

Thought I recognised the area from my studentbgaysnin the early to mid 1990s. Some parts have hardly changed, others have changed vastly.

Nowadays they would be standing outside firing water through the open window hoping to hit the fire.

Not always, but it's true that most Fire Brigades try to stop exposing crews to unnecessary risk. I doubt any of the firefighters in this video that were inside that building surrounded by carcinogenic smoke without BA had a long retirement. The smoke produced nowadays is far more toxic with modern building materials and plastics, and fires spread far faster with modern contents of buildings. Great video of how things used to be.
