That style of singing you're hearing, the wailing, the sadness and grief in it is "keening" , Keening was a vocal ritual artform, performed at the wake or graveside in mourning of the dead. Keens are said to have contained raw unearthly emotion, spontaneous word, repeated motifs, crying and elements of song.
Yes, first person to even notice an correctly describe it!! So beautiful 😍
It's Irish
@@donnakawana Except it's not. It's the Irish Yodal, a yodal that is distinctive to the Irish. It is a quick flip between chest voice and head voice, very difficult to do. You will learn what Keening is when someone or something you love deeply dies. This ain't it.
Keening comes from the Irish word to cry ‘caoineadh’ which is pronounced keen-ah or kween-ah.
Song about “the troubles” . lasted 38 years and there’s still some bitterness on both sides
Zombie was a visceral response to the death of two children in an IRA bombing in the Cheshire town of Warrington. Three-year-old Johnathan Ball was killed when two bombs hidden in litter bins detonated on a busy shopping street in March 1993. Tim Parry, aged 12, died five days later.
In the US these days we have become the "Zombies" to the gun violence. I grew up with this song and it has always been one on my playlist. It takes new meaning every generation.
or Zombies to the violent... that use guns.
Yes, we have. The #1 cause of death for children in the U.S. is now gun violence.
I've watched 60 year old men from Ireland fall to tears on this song.
If you know what its about, you KNOW!!! 💯
Her voice & music was so powerful ..amazing soul & talent..like Amy Winehouse was fighting a battle..both SO FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Spot on with the Zombie metaphor.
It happened in 1993. 🙏
Great reaction my brotha... Dolores was 1 of a kind 🙏🙏🙏
RIP Delores. I hope you truly are at peace.
Before I heard what the song is about, I thought it was about PTSD. Like the trauma made the soldier have war flash backs 'in your head they're still fighting' and numb 'what's in your head? Zombie'.
This song came out early nineties and we have not gotten better
Over a billion views. RIP, Dolores. Irish band, talking about "the troubles", IRA fighting for independence from Great Britain.
Are you implying that the IRA was good?
Nice take,appreciated
The child slowly taken was taken off life support a few days after the bombing.
I just found your channel subbed!! My family left Ulster Ireland against the wishes of my Mum's family... My Gran thought we should stay it's our home!! Me Mum had a dream my brother wud die fighting. She is a seer... So we moved to Baltimore city Maryland cuz there was a Baltimore Ireland... So yeah !! This song is a true gut punch... I cry every time I lost ppl to this ...
Why can't we just walk in love. I love you an what your doing!! Music is love!! ✌🏼💗🫂🍀
one of the best songs of all time, in my opinion. great reaction, you got it, thanks for sharing it with us. i'm 50 and have visited some of the neighbourhoods in northern ireland depicted in the video. i saw the cranberries live once, in toronto, canada. they were awesome. they played this and the place went nuts, great sing along....people all over the world can sing it. 🙂
Great reaction, and I’m glad you appreciated the impact. The only one I can think of that hits as hard, if not harder, than this, that’s Jeremy by Pear Jam. Inspired by true events that left the song writer shaken.
Johnny Cash's Hurt has a big impact as well.
Pear Jam, the inventors of Fruit Rock
Daddy by Korn hits even harder. I can still listen to this song. I cannot listen to “Daddy”.
@@raenellefisher8514 True, Cash's cover of the song Hurt is pretty good.
You get it Brotha. Still relevant today, maybe more than ever.
One of the best songs, ever!!
Another 90s gem in video and song... lightning crashes by a band called Live.
Strong subject matter and great unique singer.
Anything that involve kids, never ever hurt them, but why it does still happened, human beeing is the responsible one.
You get it.
Such an intriguing voice. So haunting. Music bring out an emotion in us. Stir our soul. 🔥❤️🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥
Heartfelt reaction 🙏
Nailed it
This is such a politically charged song. For those that don't know, this song was inspired by the conflict in Ireland; the IRA etc. It is serious business.
Dolores was a siren 🎶🙌🏻❤️🙏🏻
Global leaders are holding Humanity back.
I love this song. I was a teenager when it came out. Nothing ever changes. Humanity is doomed to keep on repeating our mistakes. I’m tired of watching Wars on tv. My grandfather, a first generation American/German enlisted to fight in WW2. That was supposed to be the war to end all wars.
WWI was supposed to be the war to end all wars, not the second one.
@@johngillespie3409Finally someone gets this correct thanks for pointing this out
Good thought on the Metaphoric use of Zombie. Could refer to the people doing the killing who are unfeeling and robotic. Also, Zombies being the walking dead, are the tragic memories of the dead persistently running through her mind.
Excellent reaction, spot on. Thank you for understanding.
Awesome reaction..you're my favorite!!
A classic jam right here 🎶
It's sad yes about the pain of the war in Northern-Ireland with the UK. True what you say, I think there has never been a generation in the world without pain, it's part of humanity I guess
It wasn't even just about the war in NI, it was a reaction to a bombing in England ( Warrington) , but yeah the pain is on full display
great reaction! you get it...💗💗💗
The two boys who died were out buying cards for Mother’s Day.
Your reactions are always very honest and insightful ✌️✌️
❤❤ you are so on point!!!!!
RIP to Doloris yo💔 amazing soul & voice who lost a battle 🥺 check our Bad Wolves cover of this it's AMAZING & she was suppose to be in it but died the night b4 so they did the video & had a figure in gold that represents her(like her in this vudeo) & they put a message for her in the beginning ..its fucked up but SUCH A DOPE SONG..do it fam🔥🔥🔥🕊
👏👏👏 brilliant my lad 😎
You are on point
Rip. She took her life.
Great reaction man. Love your perspective on things.
Oh, Badwolves was supposed to sing this with her the day she died. They did it justice as a TRIBUTE! It's BEAUTIFUL! 😥 Tommy Vext was the Lead singer, but left for a solo career.
The comment was for Dimash SOS 😂😂😂😂
The cycle of life makes it hard for us to grow as a species because as soon as we grow and understand what’s really important life’s over for us…. Our parents try to teach us, but all too often it falls on deaf ears, and by the time those children understand and have children themselves, the cycle repeats.
I feel like I'm experiencing music all over again through ur reactons this is great love from detroit
This shit hits different...
The world is a bit darker without Deloris' soul. Another very moving song about man's inhumanity is "Us And Them" by Pink Floyd.
Your interpretation of what Zombie means in this song is exactly what I've always thought. I appreciate that you realize this song fits so many things happening now and that is perhaps the saddest part of all. The Irish Troubles which she sings about is finally over but the song now fits BLM, the Ukraine War, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Ethiopia and so many others. It is just so sad how we turn our head like we're Zombies and don't want to know. That's what allows it to continue. You should listen to some Rage Against the Machine. Powerful stuff. Also, Pearl Jam's Jeremy.
See I always thought zombie was in reference to the kid’s living on after death in everyone’s memory
The rim shots on that snare drum on the intro reminds me of gunfire.😢
@@NoctemAeternusMusic zombies are the ones causing the conflicts, the wars.
Zombies are brainless killing machines like the IRA that did this bombings and others.
Zombies are those that start the conflicts, the wars. That are mindless killing machines.
The IRA stated that this bombing and others were on behalf of the Irish people.
She response was, "It's not me, it's not my family." That this wasn't the will of the Irish people.
The video footage is real these are real children fighting, while playing because it's what they grew up seeing.
Love your reactions. You react like a singer like a musician. I’m both and you’re one of my favorites
R.i.p. Delores. A voice that was amazing is lost to us, but her music lives on. You are missed.
Thank you really because yes we inhuman god I wish we could just love one another we all in the same struggle just differently
You got it .. one of the few reaction vids who actually got it .. wow. She's keening for the dead and us all zombies just keeping on accepting the world as we've been given it. Thanks so much and thanks a lot more for being a thinker
You have to watch the video with this.
Zombie : My interpretation is that it is the dead of the past (since 1916) that are still living in "his" head today as Zombies, so there is no room for thinking about and living with the real, actually alive people of the presence. This is a disrepect of life in the disguise of fighting for a good thing.
So the rethoric question is: "What's in your head?"
And the answer: "Zombies",
whereby it is the utter fact that he can't let them go makes the victims to Zombies. So, this is not a memento to the persons who died but a abuse of them.
Do the Bad Wolves cover fam .
It's so sad she overdosed the night n4 the video 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Fck u talkn about.
Overdose
I always feel like its a mother shouting at a soldier who has killed her child
It’s really not. It’s about the IRA bombing a shopping centre in England & killing innocent children. It was the Saturday before Mother’s Day. They targeted kids! Most Irish hated the violence inflicted upon them. It was the US that funded the violence & terrorism. This only stopped after 9/11.
IRA kills two kids, 12 and 3 years old, with a bomb attack in England. Terrorists, not soldiers
Finally I’ve been destroying my brain looking for your reaction and my wish just come true 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏. Because you’re the best 💪. You teaching us about the meaning of the song without criticisms of the lyrics . like some other’s. I know is a waiting list 🤣🤣🤣🤣 please do a Reaction to The DOORS LA WOMAN 🙏🙏🙏
You nailed it!😊 great reaction 🤣!
Such a powerful song. Great reaction! 💖😎
A very wise and well-spoken review. We never learn in regards to this song's message. Thank you.
although this song was about attrocities carried out by the IRA on mainland UK in 1993 in Warrington when a bomb in a litterbin exploded killing two young boys 12 and 3 who were out to buy mothersday presents.....it is also relevant to putin's war in Ukraine ....random bombings and killings....
IRISH SCEEZ...RIP Dolores
React to The cranberries time is ticking out or Salvation !!
Both of them have social message for this selfish society.
I kinda wish thar you didn't have so many great reactions out. I need to get to work!! 😬❤️✌️
Dolores was an amazing voice that mastered the art of keening while delivering a dark message. This song is about the IRA fighting their battles and killing innocent people. There’s a story about there being a group of people at some sort of celebration and the IRA bombed the place and killed innocent women and children.
This is bad ass song
Great Reaction Sceez! 🥰✊
Please check out the cover Bad Wolves did a few years ago! The lead singer of the Cranberries, Dolores O'Riordan was supposed to sing on it, but died the day of the studio session, so Bad Wolves released the song as a tribute and donated all of the proceeds to her surviving children. The cover was as 🔥🔥🔥 as the original!
It may have been inspired by that bombing but in the video it's an Irish kid killed by brit soldiers...to me this song is just about the mental fatigue of war ...if ya ever been in a beef that lasted too long it's exhausting
❤❤❤
RIP DOLORIS🕊️
Do Miley’s cover, she carries the pain in the song.
My favorite word is "incurious" you incurious you a zonbie
Zombie is dead inside we have no heart no emotion no care
Yep zombie is a metafor saying come on do you follow humans so much you cant think for yourself
Genocide my G💔 it's happening everywhere & we got NO FUCKING CLUE it's fucked up😭
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥😢
Well now you need to do, "In Your Head" by Eminem, man.
Not a fan of many covers, but check out the tribute to Dolores and the song by bad wolves/zombie
You really must see the video.
Please react to -1.Aerosmith: Janie's Got a Gun -2.Pearl Jam: Jeremy -3.Soul Asylum: Runaway Train -4.The Offspring: The Kids Aren't Alright -5.P.O.D.: Youth of the Nation -6.Suzzane Vega: Luka -7.Foster the People: Pumped Up Kicks -8.Pat Benatar: Hell is for Children -9.Linkin Park: Crawling -Thanks
Love your reaction. Great commentary. I had to subscribe. Maybe listen to the excellent cover of this song by Bad Wolves. They put a little head-banging interpretation on it.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO LIKE, SHARE AND SUBSCRIBE! ITS FREE!! (ALSO, IF YOU HAVE NOWHERE TO SHARE, JUST COPY THE LINK, ITS CONSIDERED A SHARE!) THANKS, ALL!
You should react to the band Against me!. Specifically Black me out and Two Coffins off their album Transgender Dysphoria Blues. That album deals with the tricky topic of gender Dysphoria and transition. Laura Jane came out as trans after years in the spotlight and released this album.as a trans woman myself this album hits all of the emotions. Undoubtedly one of my favorite albums and definitely worth a listen
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

React to Kayykilo Momentum freestyle she dope asf
Are you cold.. Do you have no heating in your household? Lol.. Hat and a coat on indoors.. So American lol
Now ur talking real music boy
Amazing, innit? The simplest songs carry the most meaning in ‘em. Down to the bone. You don’t need to be a genius to get the message across, in fact it’s probably better not to be. Just be true
Do your research please
Yup Unfortunately brother like you and me are old enough to understand the true meaning behind Dolores's song and means way more than people realize specially now in these uncertain times we live in now even back in 1994 it was about kids being killed in another senseless war that could have been discussed diplomatically but since WW1 the world has been on another collision course of epic disaster like Dolores talks about here in my favorite song of hers Zombie.
This song has more meaning than all the songs combined in the last 10 years which unfortunately says something about where are species has been heading since 1916 like she said in this powerful song just like my other meaningful favorite song from 1994 Keep talking from Pink Floyd which are society has stopped for along time now and if we don't wake up fast there will be another World War if we keep up the track we're heading on it's a recipe for catastrophe on all levels now never thought possible in 2023 but like me and my WW2 veteran family members that are still alive think specially after the last 3 years if eye awakening moments of nobody saw coming until it was stearing us right in the face and we couldn't look away no more but unfortunately it was to late another massive war in Europe that could have been avoided from communication and diplomacy once again we chose poorly
It's like one my favorite songs Folks Keep Talking from my favorite bands Pink Floyd when Stephen Hawking did his famous Commercial in the 90s saying as long as Mankind keeps communicating the human race still has a chance to turn it around no matter how close we get to another catastrophic global disaster like now we face in 2023.
