    If you take your measurements around every inch, starting at the hip and moving toward the waist, you will have an idea of how quickly you need to flare out from the waist to the hip. You can even measure with a tape at the side seams to see if you need more or less room in the front vs. the back to help you shape darts. Some pants I have made had a double dart about an inch apart on the pants back, with one dart being about 1" longer than the other.

      That is a really helpful tip, thank you!

      I was thinking you could use a friction pen to mark every inch on your panties and heat erase the marks when done.

    I just made the Daughter Judy Brier pants and I am HOOKED!! So excited to make more of those and try the Coe and Worship patterns. I love that her patterns work well on curvy bodies! No need for those frustrating, endless fit tweaks that some other patterns require.

      I’ll second that! I’ve made every one of her pant patterns, except the Monty which just came out. That one I’m cutting this weekend. Her patterns fit me so well, and so far the Coe is my all time favorite. Try the Post pant for all kinds of knits. Those sew up really fast and the back leg seaming gives a fantastic booty fit that you can fine tune. In a med cotton knit they are cute sweats for lounging, in a ponte they are dress pants. The new Monty pant has small elastic insert at back waist & interesting pleat & exposed zipper at front. I’m hoping for a good airplane travel pant for upcoming trip.

    LOL! I looked at that shot in the alley and said, "Hey, that looks like Montreal!" Keep on sewing from one Montreal native sewista to another!

    I have made at least 10 pairs of (Anna Allen) Persephone Pants! I’ve used denim, velvet, corduroy, even heavyweight flannel! It’s versatile and a very beginner friendly fitted pants pattern.
    I’ve also sewn at least four Metamorphic Dresses (Sew Liberated). The pattern is simple enough for lots of personal touches and hacks.

      I’ve wanted to make the Persephone but I’m not convinced they’ll work for my shape!

    Thanks for the great video. I'm sitting here in the most comfortable yet good looking Coe Trousers and agree with you 100%. I made them in a stretch twill for winter and will make another pair in linen for summer. And will make a denim pair now that I've seen yours. Thanks for the inspiration.

    My favorite pattern is the Blackwood Cardigan by Helen’s Closet. I have made it over 20 times. I’ve gifted some to my Mom, my sister, and my niece. I make the length about 4 inches shorter than the long version. And I do the pocket hack that Ashley Griffith posted on UA-cam like 5 years ago. I made a public playlist for the Blackwood Cardigan, if anyone wants to use it.

    I personally love Friday Pattern Company's Donny shirt. I tend to make them out of the crazy prints I love and wear them like dressed-up tees. I've got 2 sewn that I wear every week and material to sew up another 2. I've also recently tried True Bias' Lander Pant and made 2 pairs of shorts, have material cut out for a pair of pants, and just got a lovely twill for another pair of pants. I've fitted the pattern to my body and am using it as a sloper, changing the button front to a fly front, lowering the waist, and modifying the pockets. Lastly, I've just finished up a pair of Closet Core's Morgan Jeans and have material in my stash for a second pair. I love being able to reuse favorite patterns over and over.

    • @MakingCassie

      I’ve always wanted to make the Donny shirt!

    • @cherylmccutchan1282
      @cherylmccutchan1282 Місяць тому +2

      @@MakingCassie I find the Donny to be fairly fast to make because it skips the front button placket, but there is some fiddliness where all the pieces come together at the center front of the shirt. My fitting note: I'm long-waisted and added 3" to the length.

    I have the Helen’s Closet Yanta overalls but I redrew the pocket (and facing) so it is a scoop side “slash” pocket. I don’t like patch pockets. The facing is a little complicated but I’ve made it 5 times (with plans for more) - heavy denim, pant wt linen, three light wt. canvas, so it’s pretty easy now. It’s basically my uniform now, lol. It started because I wanted gardening overalls but I loved the no waistband, free and easy comfort. I couldn’t wear ready to wear because I am a pear shape and they all seem to be made for straight or inverted triangle shapes. I might make up The Tru/Bias Riley overalls or the Jenny overalls from HC just for a change (corduroy).
    My favorite T is the Lark T by Grainline Studio. I’ve hacked it too but I love how easy it is to merge sizes and make my favorite while changing up sleeves or necklines. The instructions are really good with both companies.
    For something new I’m planning on making an Aria shirt from Love Notions. They have great instructions and it’s been a long time since I made a button up blouse.

    • @MakingCassie
      @MakingCassie  Місяць тому +2

      I really want to try the Riley overalls (I even have the pattern). Jenny overalls are great but they have a very defined waist and are a bit less comfy (I love a loser fit for overalls around the waist)

    • @Queenread82
      @Queenread82 Місяць тому +1

      @ I was thinking about that too. I wonder how well it would work to loosen the waist and let the bibs do the holding up. Or I could just make the Riley or HC Ruby (which I also own 😜)

    The one I keep going back to is Butterick B5284. I have it in tablets in four different sizes along with sleeve variations. I do Frankenstein patterns by mixing patterns to get what I want.
    I am currently sewing the Coe trouser. Will see how it works out. I probably should have done a muslin movie up first. Am making it from a 14 oz stretch black denim. I have a rectangular body. May need to take the hips and thighs in. Wearing skinny jeans, folks tell me that I should try them, only for me to say that I am wearing them. They fit at the waist and bag out everywhere else. I do OK with juniors or men's skinny jeans.

    I have made two shirts over and over again. the oversized shirt by the assembly line and the cornel shirt. I also just made the utility tote by motif studio and I want to make a gazillion more. I have made 3 or four bestie bags this year too. they are such a good staple!

    Thank you for sharing, especially the pants! I'm still scared to make pants because of how exact the measurements have to be, so my go-tos are the Harlene Dungarees by Merchant and Mills and the Zadie Jumpsuit by Paper Theory Pattern.

    Oooh I love a TNT video ❤
    I've seen your Nikko top video, but do you have videos about making any of the others? I'd especially love to see the pants patterns come together. I've been eyeing the coe but there isn’t much talk about them here on UA-cam (especially compared to instagram) and I've never heard of the shop pant before but love the idea of a tapered, stovepipe or subtle barrel legged pant with good fly instructions!

    Thanks for the video Cassie, I always love it when one of your videos pops up! I appreciate your enthusiasm and your honesty about patterns. I love the Monroe turtleneck by Tessuti fabrics- it looks very similar to the Nico but it was free. The only issue is that I find my head can be too big for the opening 😅 I love your jumper, it looks like the stripe hype sweater from Kutovakika, is that what it is? ❤

    Love your podcast! I also live inMontreal and I’m interested in the fabrics you used. Could you say a little more about what they are for all the patterns presented AND where you got them?

    • @MakingCassie
      @MakingCassie  Місяць тому +1

      I can definitely be more conscious of this in the future. I don’t buy a ton of fabric in Montreal, but most of these are from Blackbird (the popcorn denim Coes), Core Fabrics (the denim shop pants, the two ZW tops, the stripe nikko, flower nikko, and grey nikko), and The Fabric Store (the red Nikko, the Andie dress). The rest I’ve had in stash for ages
