Hi Rachel, nice video :) I would like to add some feedback from my personal experience. As a software engineer and product manager I always have found annoying designers that don't understand the platform nor the technology. I do agree that designers doesn't need to code but, in my opinion, they should really understand the platform UI/UX guidelines (for iOS, Android, or whatever you are doing), they should know which components are available natively in the platform and they should have - at least - a notion of how complex are different design patterns. I find very often designs that look great on InVision, but as soon as the developers look at then they will say "that view hierarchy doesn't make sense" or the typical "we don't have radio buttons in iOS" 😅. One of the biggest problems when a designer is very good from a visual point of view but not that good from the software point of view is that he loses the vision that the budget is limited. "Your designs might look great, but developers would need 3 months to create them and we have assigned two weeks for this feature." Regards from Spain :)
@@preciousmrakpor4622 I always recommend reading the docs. Apple has hundreds of pages on how iOS works. The same for Google and other platform. It looks obvious, but most of the designers will say that they can’t learn every platform 🤷♂️. Or that they don’t want to “constraint” to some predefined designs. As Rachel said, speak to the programmer, as much as you can. And when the say something cannot be done, ask them to explain why and what would they suggest as an alternative. And finally, use the platform in your everyday life! Even if it is annoying having different phones with different sizes and OS. Regards!
Tip #2 is such a simple and effective technique, but it's often underrated. Love that you clarified how studying great products doesn’t necessarily mean browsing through Dribbble or Behance 😅 thanks for this, Rachel!
Your video is so amazing and informative ,but please make video regularly . You are the perfect inspiration for those people who have not degree , experience, but only dedication to do something .
Hey Nitin, thank you so much for the kind words :) I'm trying to strike a balance between making more videos but still maintain quality and useful content to all of you. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed your insights! Have you considered doing a video about your personal portfolio, or the portfolio that got you your first UX Job? I would be very interested in seeing it!
Please make video on detail roadmap for ux ui designer . Because there are different ways or to get in ux ui career but also have too much confusion, Please define the step by step . This is very helpful for all. I say to you because you are my mentor . I follow you .. 🙂🙂
Hello, Rachel! Great video as always :) One question may be bit off topic: have you ever designed a horizontal scroll website? Maybe you have a video about how to create a design in figma for a horizontal scroll? Are there any differences from a designer's perspective, except that your frame is horizontal? ^^ Thanks in advance!
I can't see the writings, when your shirt is white. Try to use another font style and color next time so it's more visually acessible Apart from that, amazing video as always! You've been inspiring me so much!
Hey there, thank you so much for letting me know! There are so much I could improve in this video, so thanks a lot for pointing it out. I will try my best to make it more accessible next time. I wish I could put more effort into making this video but I took a break recently to take care of my health. I hope to get better and continue to make great content for y'all. Thanks for watching my videos!
Thanks for watching! :) Digital product designers (also known as ui/ux designers) work on digital products, which includes apps, websites, or any digital interfaces. This includes touch screen interfaces when you order food in Mcdonald's, Tesla's car dashboards, or even the interface of a treadmill in the gym.
Ah, I left out 1 tip at 7:21 - (Study great products)! Sorry about that :)

Do you have any recommendation on how designers can understand the guidelines for IOS and Android?

Hi Rachel! Thanks for this video. I'd like to ask, do product designers only work on apps?
