You should try making enchiladas with the jicama tortillas. Baked with sauce, their moisture wouldn't be so obvious. Those cheese "chips" looked amazing! Crunchy! Thank you, Michelle!
Ok so I went & got 3 cans of the eggplant from TJ’s yesterday 😍🥰 yum! It’s more tomato-y than baba ganoush but really good! You could put it over rice, orzo pasta, crostini, pita bread or chips…. So many things! 💕💕

I haven't made Baba Ganoush yet, but it's on my bucket list 👍 I have several eggplant recipes on my bucket list to try. You DEFINITELY need to pick this up. It's delicious!
Order some plastic jar lids! They are made for when you aren’t really canning with the mason jars and I think actually reduce waste since they don’t rust
I love making the jicama tacos. I pan fry the the wraps first to dry them out with hardly any oil if any at all. I don't have the heat on too high as we don't really like them browned too much. It makes it easier to eat from my experience.
I also don't let myself go to Trader Joe's very often because I tend to splurge on exclusive items so I spend more than I would at a conventional market, but I also feel like $100 goes a lot farther there than at many other markets. Even with other markets' prices shooting up, TJ's have remained pretty consistent-- still $2 for bags of greens, $5 for olive oil, $2 for instant farro, their spices are low priced, and frozen veggies and fruit are much less than the big chain markets. But I always end up spending a lot on special snacks and frozen food items that I can't get anywhere else. Those salami and cheese duo packs are a great deal for $3.99, I feel like they'd be $7.99 at Vons or Ralphs. I also got just a pack of Columbus salami last week at TJ's for only $2.79 for 8 oz which was a nice way to have a little splurge without breaking the bank. Overall I have certain items I go specifically to Trader Joe's for, similar to Aldi.
Hi Maura 😁 I need to invest in some mason jars. I can't right now, but when I do I'll check out those plastic lids. Sounds like the best option for durability.
The Georgian seasoning mix at Trader Joe's is great. I use it on eggs, in my marinara sauce and tonight I tried it mixed in the cracker crumbs of my cauliflower cheese. It was excellent.
Your Gardein ground reminded me of their fabulous gf black bean burgers that I miss. I don't know if they still sell them in the US but I cannot find it in Canada. When we visit the US we stop by Trader Joe's for a few things. I especially love their ginger-turmeric tea and their seasoning salt.
I love the Morningstar Farms black bean burgers. They are delicious but I don't think I've ever seen them from Gardein. I'll have to look. Would love to try the ginger turmeric tea and seasoning salt.
I really enjoyed this video, I went to Trader Joe’s today and bought some of the lentils and the eggplant in a can. Can’t wait to try it! Thanks so much!
I eat mostly homemade foods ( less processed) and the reduction of sodium in my diet has helped symptoms of Ménière’s disease (specifically the vertigo and the tinnitus is less loud. For anyone who may have this condition) I love tacos as well but I frequently do a lettuce “boat” and air fry one corn tortilla into strips to top my taco boats. For crunch. I haven’t tried home made corn tortilla yet idk why, the flour tortilla are easy to make.
The trick to making your own alternative milks is to add liquid slowly, so it starts chunky and then you can thin it out to the right texture/thickness
Oh my gosh!! I live in England (but used to live in US). I thought Oatly was expensive here at about £2 per carton (about $2.50 USD). Am so shocked at what you said the cost is there. Really enjoy your videos - thank you!
The nearest Trader Joe to me is almost two hours away, so don’t go there often, and I have not even heard of some of these products before. But, I enjoyed this video and the various meal ideas!!
We recently had the Sabra caramelized onion and it was SO awesome. I like that brand and found them for a great price at Grocery Outlet. My partner likes alternative milks so I might give the oatmilk a try. Cheese as tortilla.. nice.
I’d be interested in seeing you do a cost comparison. I usually buy loose vegetables and avoid vegetable mixes because I assume that anything that requires additional effort on the part of the manufacturer has an added cost. It should cost more to produce sliced mushrooms than to sell unsliced ones. It should cost more to produce a combined tomato and mozzarella salad that to sell each product individually and let the consumer do the combining. Interested to see what the reality is…
Great video. Oatmilk is delicious however can lead to blood sugar spikes for folks struggling with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Almond, Soy, Hemp or Coconut milk (From shredded coconut) and I think even cashew milk tend to be better alternatives . I have made all of these at home myself using a blender and a sieve. Typically 1 cup of solid to 4-6 cups water. I love your homemade folio wrap idea. I have bought them before but never microwaved them-used them to wrap lunch meat, lettuce, tomato soft and not microwaved (parmesan one is my fav).
love watching you enjoy healthy stuff- I tried jicama wraps once - I'd rather have romaine lettuce for the wraps! a local tex-mex restaurant has shredded jicama in a chicken fajita, cotija cheese, lettuces, candied pecans,e tc with a citrus vinaigrette - so good and crunchy that way
I really need to take some time and look at everything at Trader Joe’s. I’m usually there for like 1-2 things and out before I get tempted. That eggplant spread looks delicious and I’m gonna have to get it now. And the melted cheese is a brilliant idea! Thank you!
Sorry, deleted my comment by accident. Fpr the Riced Cauliflower, it is very low carb. Has a great Asian flavor too. I add a bag of coleslaw mix, coconut aminos, and whatever protein you like and it is a fast low carb meal. Hope you enjoy it.
I am wondering how filling and satisfying these food items are, I haven't tried a lot of these because I don't go for processed food items unless they are super special. Seems eggplant would be a good one to try for me. I love eggplants. I use oat milk so I may try making it. You could put the remainder in stuffings, breads or vegan meatloaf and such, might be good to freeze until ready to use. I used to get powdered hummus mix sold in open bins and make a big plate, heavily sprinkle top w paprika, and load it up w fresh chopped tomatoes and drizzle it w olive oil, serve it wit cut up pitta bread, for a while it was a go to for my family. Now days sometimes I make it from scratch w garbanzo beans, and I have used various flavors of Sabra too. Thank you for an inspirational video once again :)
Hello 😁 I purchased a lot of these items to try for my low carb viewers that need to moderate carbs. They probably aren't items that you would purchase if you aren't eating low carb or gluten free though. I've made my own hummus but it's not as good as what I can buy. 😞 Thanks for watching!
I think it's important to shop at places that give you joy too. I get excited about my food when I shop at TJ's. Having fun & new foods keeps cooking interesting. My hubby would be happy with chicken or pork steaks everyday, but I don't roll like that! Thanks for trying out things so that I don't have to. I wish I could patreon, but I can't right now. that canned eggplant looks a lot like an eggplant stew my mom used to make. she never had the patience to teach me how to cook, so when i grew up, i had to google everything. i don't even know what the name of the dish is, but i think i came pretty close in recreating it. i saute garlic and onions, then add chopped tomatoes and eggplant. i don't like it too mushy so i don't stir it too much or cook it too long. lastly i scramble some eggs and pour it into the stew, and cook it until the eggs are set. if you know what the name of this dish is called, please let me know. it's one of my all-time favorites. i eat it with rice. of course.
I don't know the name of it, but now I want to make it 😂 I've never made an eggplant stew! Sounds like something I would love. I found some recipes for eggplant stew though. 🤔 YUM! adding to my bucket list.
I will be catching up on your videos. I LOVE Trader Joe's. Unfortunately, I seldom get near it anymore, and it's more than 40 miles from me. Their bagged spinach lasts far longer than any other store's. It is a great place for quality shallots, Their canned retired beans are pure and still lower than any other store's. I love their Parmesan wedges not only because it costs a reasonable price less, it has a mild flavor and good texture. I eat it as it is, as well as grate it. I also pick up their canned salmon.Their coffee is good. I used to get their salami for one of my sons all the time, too. I get the gluten-free pasta there for the other son, as well as the seed and beet chips, which I happen to love with hummus, and he likes the G-F sweet potato chips, as well.
Hi Tonette 😁 Trader Joes is my favorite store and I think if I lived 40 miles away I would still shop there once a month or so. I have so much fun trying new foods there. I like those flaxseed chips too. I haven't tried the G sweet potato chips.

I've made my own regular hummus. I did it for my New Year video too. It's good but not as good as the Sabra. Although, mine was just a plain hummus. I've never tried adding anything in. For my channel, I didn't use tahini (due to cost), but I've used it in other hummus.
@@ArdentMichelle My mom uses some peanut butter in her hummus which I thought was blasphemy until I tried it and it was delicious and not noticeable. I use tahini as it takes a while to go through a jar but nice to know it is an cheap alternative.
Thank you for this! I've been wanting to try those low carb wraps and you did it for me. And I really appreciate you showing how to make the cheese wraps which I've wanted to do too. This was a really awesome video :)
I always find more than one or two tips and ideas in your videos! I love Trader Joe's for its emphasis on special needs diets but it is expensive. This cheese wrap/cracker thing will be great for my sister -- we're thinking of seasoned refried beans. I had read about oat milk but you've made it look so easy... it is missing certain vitamins and minerals often added to these products which for me are vitamin D3 and Bs. Knowing that oat milk is easy means I have an option if I'm out of my lactose-free dairy milk.
Great reminder regarding the oat milk. I’ve been meaning to make my own and this was the reminder I needed to get on it. I don’t have a strong blender but it’s time to experiment and see how it turns out. Thanks for the recipe. 😊
When you microwave the cheese are you using wax paper or parchment paper under it? I wish we had a Trader Joe’s.. we have a Sprouts though less than a mile from me…have you tried shopping at Sprouts? They have tons of bin grains, flours, nuts, etc..way more than WinCo…I think you’d be delighted …and I’d love to see you shop there.
Hi Marcia 😁 Nice to see you again. I'm using parchment paper. I do have a Sprouts nearby. My store doesn't have as many of the bins as Winco, and they are more expensive but I do love that store. I go there to look for unusual items. I'll think about shopping there for a video. Maybe a dollar a day.
I have not tried the jicama wraps, but may I suggest using them in a layered dish, like a flat taco, or a gordita-style dish? I use soft tacos and serve layered leftovers, Mexican-style. I mix-and-match refried beans, Spanish rice, cheeses, sour cream, picante sauce, meat with Hispanic/Latin seasoning or chipotle/chili or other peppers. I make 'cantina bowls' with the above, and sometimes corn roasted with chili and herbs. Could you try to bake these wraps into bowl shape to dry them out and use them to serve something like this?
I make a lot of those style dishes too. I like the idea of using the jicama in a layered dish like that, like maybe an enchilada casserole? That's a great idea 👍 I don't think it would work for a tostada bowl though 🤔 It doesn't seem to change texture when the water evaporates out. It's a little weird 😂
@@ArdentMichelle That IS weird, but I just hate to see any food wasted. I thought maybe just layering the already cooked foods would make it less likely to get totally mushy, and it would all be eaten with a knife and fork. I wish you all the best.
Another great video. I go to Trader Joe's on a regular basis, it's 2 miles from the house and across the street from Costco, it's a win win for me 😊. Anyway I buy a lot of those same items and now after watching this it will be more. I too have looked at that eggplant in the can and wondered About it, now I'm going to get it next time, I trust your taste buds 💯. Also some new recipes from my old favorite ingredients. I'm also going to try making the oat milk, I buy from Costco but it's still expensive in my opinion. Again, thanks for today's video.
You're welcome 😁 I'm so glad you like this video. I'm actually about to make that same egg omelet with the eggplant for my breakfast ( a late one). I know Oatly adds in an oil to some of their mixes, and you can do that as well if that is the kind you are buying. It'll make it richer tasting, but I just buy the non fat no sugar added oat milk when I buy it.
How lucky are you?!? We live about 1.5 miles from Canada, there’s only one Costco and one Trader Joe’s in the whole state of Vermont, and they’re both over an hour away! We do have Hannaford though, which is convenient if you’re a gardener because the produce is often pre-composted.
@@susans9491 I do consider myself lucky, these two stores are my favorites. I guess if there is only one of each of these stores an hours drive that could be closer than other people might drive. I live on the west coast (Seattle) and I know we have a lot of both stores all over the place. I guess the bad part is I tend to spend too much money 🤑 there.
I always love your videos, but this one was truly exceptional! I love the fact that you were brave enough to try several products that I’ve been eyeing (but have been too cowardly to try!), in particular the eggplant. I’m very intrigued with the cheese wraps and will be giving those a try this week, I’ve got some time off coming and feel like doing some kitchen experiments.❤

If you're ever at Trader Joe's and are curious about a product, try it and if you don't love it, they'll give you a refund. I've brought back loaves of bread that went moldy after 2 days and said "This ain't right" and they fix it. For a snack item, if you ask, they'll usually open the bag to let you try it. The employees are always so friendly, it seems like a nice work environment.

Hi Brooke 😁 Are those in with the regular bread loaves?
You should try making enchiladas with the jicama tortillas. Baked with sauce, their moisture wouldn't be so obvious. Those cheese "chips" looked amazing! Crunchy! Thank you, Michelle!
Hi Margee 😁 That's a great idea 👩🍳 Love this!
With the remaining oat milk pulp you could use it in meatloaf, cookies, muffins or cakes.
oh great idea Lee 👍 Love this!
I have shied away from the TJ’s canned eggplant and tomatoes and onions, but after watching this I will add it to my list. Keeping foods whole!
Love whole foods. 👍 I find I like to have a few convenience foods around though.
Ok so I went & got 3 cans of the eggplant from TJ’s yesterday 😍🥰 yum! It’s more tomato-y than baba ganoush but really good! You could put it over rice, orzo pasta, crostini, pita bread or chips…. So many things! 💕💕
Yay! 👍 I like the idea of using it with the orzo or rice 👍 I wonder if eating it with the pita chips along with hummus? That sounds really good to me. Or put the hummus on the crostini and then the eggplant. Ok I'm drooling...
its dinner time. 😂

Order some plastic jar lids! They are made for when you aren’t really canning with the mason jars and I think actually reduce waste since they don’t rust
I need to get some mason jars. I definitely need those plastic lids.
I love making the jicama tacos. I pan fry the the wraps first to dry them out with hardly any oil if any at all. I don't have the heat on too high as we don't really like them browned too much. It makes it easier to eat from my experience.
Thanks for sharing this. 😁I can see how drying them out a little would make them easier to eat.

Hello 😁 You're right they do have great prices on a lot of items. Plus I love getting inspiration from their constant influx of new products.
Trader Joe's is the only place I've seen Murasaki sweet potatoes - a white sweet potato with beautiful purple skin! 🍠
Hi Erica 😁 I don't think I've tried that. I picked up a Japanese sweet potato at H-Mart though. Is that the same thing?
I use to live close to a Traders Joe. I miss shopping there
If I lived within an hour or two I would plan trips around shopping there 😂 It's a foodies Disneyland 😂
I like the plastic one piece lids for mason jars.
Thanks for the tip. 👍 I'll look for that one.

For anyone who may have this condition)
I love tacos as well but I frequently do a lettuce “boat” and air fry one corn tortilla into strips to top my taco boats. For crunch. I haven’t tried home made corn tortilla yet idk why, the flour tortilla are easy to make.
Also I use leftover oats from making oat milk in an oatmeal bake. With frozen fruit.
I feel so much better from eating lower sodium too.
thanks for sharing this.
The trick to making your own alternative milks is to add liquid slowly, so it starts chunky and then you can thin it out to the right texture/thickness
Thanks for sharing your tip 😁
Oh my gosh!! I live in England (but used to live in US). I thought Oatly was expensive here at about £2 per carton (about $2.50 USD). Am so shocked at what you said the cost is there.

We recently had the Sabra caramelized onion and it was SO awesome. I like that brand and found them for a great price at Grocery Outlet. My partner likes alternative milks so I might give the oatmilk a try. Cheese as tortilla.. nice.
Hi Done 😁 oh I haven't tried the caramelized onion. Sounds yummy! I'll have to look for that.
I love the caramelized onion and it was marked down to 1 dollar at grocery outlet last week.
Thanks again for your support of us vegans!!!! Love your channel!

Interested to see what the reality is…
oh yes, it's going to be much higher. I would only buy the prepared items as a convenience item. 👍
Hi Christine 😁 Glad you like this video. Thanks for pointing out this out about the oat milk!
love watching you enjoy healthy stuff- I tried jicama wraps once - I'd rather have romaine lettuce for the wraps! a local tex-mex restaurant has shredded jicama in a chicken fajita, cotija cheese, lettuces, candied pecans,e tc with a citrus vinaigrette - so good and crunchy that way
Glad you like this 😁 That sounds DELICIOUS!
I really need to take some time and look at everything at Trader Joe’s. I’m usually there for like 1-2 things and out before I get tempted. That eggplant spread looks delicious and I’m gonna have to get it now. And the melted cheese is a brilliant idea! Thank you!

Wow. The oat milk hack is a dream. TY. I'm scared to go into trader joes. I can't stay on budget.
Glad you like the oat milk. I feel the same way about TJ's but I love it so much.

@@ArdentMichelle oh I didn’t think about that. Let us know if you try it!
that canned eggplant looks a lot like an eggplant stew my mom used to make. she never had the patience to teach me how to cook, so when i grew up, i had to google everything. i don't even know what the name of the dish is, but i think i came pretty close in recreating it. i saute garlic and onions, then add chopped tomatoes and eggplant. i don't like it too mushy so i don't stir it too much or cook it too long. lastly i scramble some eggs and pour it into the stew, and cook it until the eggs are set. if you know what the name of this dish is called, please let me know. it's one of my all-time favorites. i eat it with rice.
It is a great place for quality shallots,
Their canned retired beans are pure and still lower than any other store's.
@@ArdentMichelle My brother is a disabled vet and was in a nursing home very near the only Trader Joe's. I would stop there every week, among Patel's International market and a few others. It’s so yummy made fresh and then you can add in anything you like: basil, artichoke hearts, roasted garlic or peppers, etc. It’s quick, easy and the possibilities are endless!
I make my own as well. It’s not as smooth but it is so delicious!
I've made my own regular hummus. I did it for my New Year video too. It's good but not as good as the Sabra. Although, mine was just a plain hummus. I've never tried adding anything in. For my channel, I didn't use tahini (due to cost), but I've used it in other hummus.

Glad you found something useful in this video 😁
