Elvis Costello's lyrics and the Bangles harmonies....killer. Still love 'em to death, but the absence of Michael Steele from the current lineup is a bitter pill. The original 4 on the 2002 reunion album made some of the best music of their career.
@M Glenn All AZ does is play bass. She's not that good. Mikey was the real deal. Bass, Acoustic Guitar, Vocals and Flute. They coulda covered Jethro Tull i she'd'a stayed.
They are one group that are actually as good, if not better live than their recordings. The group now isn't quite as great since Michael left. Her melodic bass playing and sultry voice completed them as a terrific live band.
agree with you, in the Bangles first and most successful years, their records sounded overproduced, but in live they are more as a nice garage band, and of course they sound better
Too bad this was not for the long hall - except for three of them. Michele Steele was coaxed out of retirement to do this in 1999 and she left first, in 2005. I actually worked in Manhattan in 2003 down the street from this park, and got up early in the morning to watch them play. It was a lot of fun, and they only played a few songs on the air - for those who came out - they played half a set, 6 songs in all. A mixture of old and new songs from Doll Revolution. It was a lot of fun and I feel fortunate I got to see all four of them on stage performing one time.
That's cool. I worked in the Verizon bldg across the street from Bryant Park. I don't remember the Bangles being there, but we would sometimes go out to see the bands when GMA was broadcasting from there in the summer months. On Fridays, I guess. Good times.
@@lagarde2011 They had some good shows there. Occasionally back then they moved it to their studios out on the street in Times Square. Also saw Duran Duran when they got back together and promoted their comeback album which had the hit "Asrtronaut." It was awhile ago - I stopped working in the city in 2006.
The Bangles didn’t do many gigs in Massachusetts back when Michael was with them after they reunited. The only ones they played there were 21+. I turned 21 just in time for Michael to bow out. :(
DanDiazEntertainment I wouldn’t go that far, I’ve had this experience locally in NJ back in the 80s, but not nationally. But yes, would I love that kind of notoriety worldwide? Of course!
This is such a great song. Was listening to the original by Elvis and I have to admit, these gals did so much justice. This would be a great mashup with “Roam” by the B-52s.
Factoid: "The Bangles" band is actually named "Bangles". Way back when, they had to remove the "The" due to a last minute legal issue. They were actually called The Bangs then. They removed the "The" and added "les".
Funny enough, I grew up across the street from “The Bangs”, the band that sued these gals. They did come out with the name long before this band was “The Bangles”.
Micki would only last until 2005,& for now, they're a trio. They need Annette to be a quartet again & restore their garage rock sound that got lost when they tasted fame.
Jamie Ramone Vicki called her that on several occasions, and so did Charlie Rose. I'll have to figure out how to upload that interview since no one else has posted it.
+Jamie Ramone She said in an interview that her friends call her Micki, except for Cyndi Lauper who calls her "Micke-y". In addition she and Vicki were called Vick and Mick among them.
Add that to the fact that they really have not taken any time to challenge themselves or improve on their instruments. This is basically 'In Your Room' with slightly different chord changes.

@@RedArrow73 I'm not arguing about how good Michael was/is, I think she's great, but that doesn't negate Annette being the original bassist.
@@RedArrow73Annette can also play keyboards and harmonica.
Miss Michael much

Michael is the best bassist period. I wish she and the rest of the bangles will make one more album. We need real music.
Debbie and Michael holding it down so well !

How fortunate were you? Not jealous, no, not at all.

Debbie is killin it!!
She's one of the best drummers I've seen.
Susanna Hoffs was and still is the hottest woman in pop music and i will die on that hill.
Just superb. Love it!
Some people might tear off their own head just to have an experience like this in person.

I love Magic Bangles!!!
@VSharpshooter i like it cause miki is still my favourite first lady of these women..
i saw this line-up !!!!in Paris in 2003 i was lucky
Wow, that was good.
Great that they play live with backing tape and not like many bands full playback (or only vocals live)
Great video, great song, Love it! :D
Rockin'! thanks
Why aren't they in THOF?
And they'd been up the night before in Rye doing a show till all hours.
They all look more gorgeous in their 40s than they did in their 20s and their playing is of course tighter as well.
I understand you’re excited

Ya, I noticed that sign too. And calling Michael, "Micki", ooh, she was irritated! Man, GMA is just messing up left and right!

@@TikaPants not likely. She was often went by Micki...check when she was in the Runaways.

The Austin Powers character is there because Susannah's husband, Jay Roach, directed the Austin Powers movies.
Micki The Space Thing was her affectionate Moniker
Oh, really? Do tell! 🤔
another cover of them but good rock too

I'm thinking it was someone dressed up to look like him . Didn't really look like Mike Myers.

I thought Annette DID rejoin...
Sam Bradley - Annette has been playing with them in 2018.
restore? where have you been all this time
Annette is good on bass, but she does not sing, which hurts the 3-part harmonies plus the solo songs Michael used to sing.
And ancestors burnt at stack for been warlocks warlords
Wow, Susanna actually got hotter with time, lol.
Thwompthing Susanna is still hot 15 years later at age 58. Check out some 2016 vids of The Bangles.
