That's a shame! It is a technical piece of equipment that does take a bit of setting up. These days they have a dedicate support person who can even facetime you and run through the setup. It's really been a huge step forward for the brand
I wonder if we will be able to omit the alkalinity part, as if you do daily testing of that, youre bound to have to refill often and instead maybe test something else?
Yeah is a huge benefit of the MT being able to test what you want when you want rather than being locked into a schedule that the machine needs. Ooooh I get you, so omit alk due to already having an alk tester but use those vials for extra phosphate reagent for example? That would be clever!
@@ParkersReef yes! I get it for someone that doesn't have an Alkatronic but I do and rather use it for more phosphate, nitrate or even something different like potassium, strontium or iodine?
@@queencityreefs with the original MT, user can fill same reagents in different vials to extend the time before refill. that should be one of the features in the MTE as well.
all our products are standalone. only when combining with other products like Dosetronic/Powertronic/Solartornic will be able to do automations based on test results.
As a user of the Mastertronic I wish they would develop their own reagents in order to avoid having to release firmware updates every time one of the reagent suppliers slightly changes the formula of the reagents without warning. This happened for instance with the NO3 test from API that became more viscous and required a new stirrer, new daily stirring routine, etc etc. And the problem is that until they catch these litle things us users are left with unrealiable results.. THe other thing this unit absolutely needs to solve is the frequency and complexity of maintenance. You are told to replace the pumps dosing tubs every 500 tests but that requires you to fully disassemble the unit. I have actually just sold my MT because I got fed up with the maintenance and will wait to see how the MT Essential pans out, unless Reef factory comes out with the NO3 reagents in which case I might be tempted to get two of these (I have the Alkatronic for Alk testing).
thank you for the comment. the MTE already took maintenance into account and as you can see there is much less moving part than the original MT. some of the points in your comment for the original MT has already been addressed. there is definitely a good/bad to having our own reagent but as Sam mentioned, we are looking into doing that in the near future.
That's some fair feedback! I am keen to see how the MTE operates, it certainly looks to be much less intensive on the maintenance. I think that drop counter will eliminate a lot of required calibration which will be amazing
@vascojardim6703 yeah but I don’t think those tubes are peristaltic tubes. So shouldn’t “wear out” if you know what I mean. They’re effectively just pipes
I read somehwere that existing users of MT could upgrade their machine to be MT essentail ? After watching the video i see it has been totally revamped and it seems quite impossible. Could you shed some light on this ?
I wonder how the fluids from the little bottles wil get into to droplet vials ? Compressed air ? I hope not individuals minipumps that will need cleaning or so. The idea of drop vs syringe looks more accurate and less calibration issues
@DEGREGORIIS agreed. But it looks like some fancy check valve/exchange type deal up there exchange between reagents. Lots happening there that I don’t completely know yet
As of Christmas, they were looking at a release in "early 2024," which is great. I want this, but how does someone who spent $1300 on the Mastertonic in early 2023 justify spending probably close to that in 2024 on the newer model? Maybe I'll give it a year to get the kinks out before buying.
if you have a current full blown mastertronic, there is no need to switch. I'll be sure to cover the details of the essential once it comes out, will give you the opportunity to see it in action before deciding if you need to switch or not
I wish that reagent can be extended with outside container. So I can fill the container about 1L for each, it’ll be an extra a year to refill it 11:11 😎
say if you skip alk testing, you can use those extra vials for other reagents (highest consumption) to make the unit test more of that parameter without refilling. so you can have like 80ml for 1 reagent if that is what you test most often.
Is good to have a new device. But is quite expensive. is about 7k to 8k in malaysia. Due to weak malaysia currency. While more thing implemented possible is easier to have issue or more high maintainence cost. But if reefer have spare $$$, it's good to have automation.
I wonder if the 5 available at launch also means that maybe some time after launch, they may add other parameters like iodin and iron that could be interchanged with the parameters that are in there. this definitely has left me with a hard decision to make in the new year Tho as I was basically ready to buy the Mastertronic as I think it is the best for the money compared to the reef factory smart tester and i ready wont that iodin test.
Potentially, although that would take the original mastertronic out of circulation. My guess from its name is that it will only ever do these “essential” items
@focustronic831 are you suggesting that if we have the regular Mastertronic and also buy this one that we could do other elements other than the 5 the Mastertronic Essentials does?
@@grantrogers2878 the original MT is still a more extensive unit offering parameters like ammonia, iodine, iron or even NO2 etc. while the MTE will do the essential dkh, ca, mg, no3, po4.
Quite a few differences with the aqua spin (which I also own). Firstly, this does not require any manual intervention to test. You can schedule tests for specific times and not need to be at the tank for it to happen. Secondly, this the allows you to control other automations based off its test results. Ie, alk is high? Lower dosage or switch off calcium reactor. Phosphate has bottomed out? Turn off GFO reactor pump. Lastly, per test - this is waaaay cheaper
It’s really hard to say at this point. I don’t think I’d replace it though, perhaps compliment it. The full mastertronic can test so many more parameters don’t is quite handy.
