Which video game soundtracks would you love to see sampled in an album, project, or EP?
Jet Force Gemini boyyyyyyyy
ahhhh the OG xbox days, sittin with them bulky ass controllers. so much fun
I did some cool shit with an iconic sample from SM64 that I can't fucking wait to release
the super dimension fortress macross
Hotline Miami game series soundtrack sample to vaporwave damn
The Ocarina of Time. This is a game so very near and dear to my heart, I tear up thinking up on it...I can go to my grandparent's house at any time and pick the game up. We still have the guide for it, written all over in notes to remember where we've been. Checklists ticked off on items. This is a game I will ALWAYS remember my grandfather playing. Man of 60 at the time picking up a video game and playing through it. He always did the amazing thing of beating the game, clearing it out fully...Man who didn't even play much of video games, but gave me this passion for it that still lights me to this very day. This game is a center of my mind for how much it brought my family together, and how magical and the idea of the series creator and former CEO of Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto, wanted. He wanted to make a series about his time playing in the woods of Japan, pretending he was some sort of adventurer. Never before had a game so impacted that feeling than the Legend of Zelda, and it hit all sorts of revolutionary strides in this game.
This rendition of it is what you expect of a generation raised on the soundtrack of Toonami, nursed on the spirit of the Nintendo 64, and those hazy days just before summer vacation when we were still in grade school. Those days where we had some new secret, before the internet or just around when it was starting. To hear these glitches or anything that could be 'some new boss or new way to beat the game.' Urban legends that further gave mythos to an already lengthy adventure. Zeldawave is that nostalgia for games given sound through the scratches of vinyl, processed through a sound equalizer, and given shape through an 909 synth. It is that melancholy of finding out this game again and missing those simpler days. The slower beats and remixing is that pining for a long-lost love. Like even finding Zelda herself after Ganondorf has kidnapped her in the opening sequence of the game. Every kick helps keep our feet in time as we trek onward until...we find it. We find that love again. That love and passion of video games in an adult world. Even working class now as kids of the 90's, we still yearn to sit down and enjoy our old games. We're a generation that never lost that love regardless of how the world so radically changed around us. We still are plumbers, swordsmen, mages, and fighters. We're still influenced by games because they grew up with us, and timeless games like this are the fairy tales of our generations. They really are legends. Legends that are indeed real and playable. They're stories that we will tell our entire lives, for they're the ones that invoke a nostalgia because they showed that the world could be like that. This isn't just saying the idea and imagination is the only thing they provide us. Soundtracks like this show that these were real sounds. The world is just as beautiful as this, even if it also makes us weep. That we have to solemnly part with things that we cherish and hold so dear, not knowing we will see them again. Thankfully...we don't have to worry. These games keep coming back. They keep going because they're with us. And on the 3DS for about 20 bucks these days.
I can break down each note, each chord, each usage of tech to an entire scientific degree. I can explain each musical transition, go into music theory on each track, but it doesn't get the point across. It won't just explain...why this is a magical EP. Why this isn't just a vaporwave album. It's an actual ode to nostalgia of a generation trying so hard to hold onto that joy and care that it comes out as awe-inspiring. It goes from a desperation to a transformation. A work of art that becomes a breath of air to our nostalgic hobby of music. We're trying so hard to say 'thank you' to someone an ocean away in Japan for giving us such happy memories. At the core of Zeldawave is a sincere love and appreciation of a soundtrack that you still hold in your mind as a way to hold off the world. It goes from just servicing the soundtrack to completely changing its tone into this hazy, dreamy landscape of our mind. Memories made into music form. THAT is why this EP is getting a repress. Our love of a game made in the 90's is so tangable, so powerful that it's making physical copies on a niche sound option worthwhile again. Holding a cassette tape of this is like holding that cartridge all those years ago. A piece of your past that you can physically hold onto and show that it wasn't all for naught. It still is here, and it can always be here as long as you keep it alive. The Legend of Zelda will continue to be told, and the legend will never fade...
Ahhhh what a read... you should write articles! seriously that was a good time.
Awesome story about your grandfather...mine are still legit like straight off the boat hahah their minds are still in Italy, my grandfather saw me on my iPhone the other day and asked why Im "stilla play you gameboy?"
yep no joke.
Oof, better not let them find out about Mario. Might be a bit too relatable.
As for writing, gotta see what the future holds first locally. Writing articles on stuff like this would be more a hobby and a passion than a job. Plus I'm sure there's much better writers than I.
"We're still influenced by games because they grew up with us, and timeless games like this are the fairy tales of our generations. They really are legends. Legends that are indeed real and playable. They're stories that we will tell our entire lives, for they're the ones that invoke a nostalgia because they showed that the world could be like that."
Dude my eyes are sweating real bad after reading that.
Wow. Your words are really amazing. Very well said.
OOT and especially MM have such a special place in my heart. Their mysterious allure and medieval charm just melt me into this euphoric state of mind. I would love to hear Polygon make a sequel album with Majora's Mask... hearing Astral Observatory, Song of Healing, and Last Hour would be insane. good stuff pad
thanks my dude :)
We definitely need a MM sequel, it'd be sooo good. do you own the tape for this?
Wish granted
Zeldawave is fantastic, I try to listen to it once a day.
Oh hey, BADBADNOTGOOD, a Canadian jazz trio/quartet, had the Title Theme / Saria's Song / Song of Storms medley on their 2011 debut mixtape titled BBNG.
So good I felt a moral obligation to make a shout out to them.
Let's breakdown how one game showcased the complexity the N64's capabilities really were at the time, and how it has influenced a Vaporwave project that has hit over 1 million views on UA-cam. Ladies and gents, today we are looking at Zeldawave: A Link To Nostalgic Emotion.

Great video pad! The visuals are mesmerizing
Thank you Luke :) check out the OG z e l d a w a v e video on youtube, thats where the visuals are from! reached out to PD and requested to use it for the background of the vid, I absolutely love it too...legit hypnotizes you.
RIP J Dilla
da best
So glad you did this one! One of my all time favourite albums for sure.
thank you! it's a super fun little piece to dive into, as well as the history of the n64's audio, interesting stuff! did you ever pick up any of the cassette releases for it?
@@PadChennington Man, I wish!! Found the album too late and they were all sold out. I found someone selling the Gold edition (My fave by far since it matches my N64 cartridge) but it was more than I can afford right now :(
Hoping for another re-pressing!!
fingers crossed! yeah I'm not a big cassette dude, but that's one I definitely would loved to have
Majora's Mask > Ocarina of Time
Sits back and grabs popcorn
o snap
It turned out to be an unexpected inspiration to me as a producer.
wordddd
My ex bought me an N64 and a bunch of games (including this one) for my birthday one year (she knew me so well).
She even took a video of me beating ganondorf .
Playing this year's after I had prior wasn't what I expected.
I thought it was going to have aged and I would have been disappointed with the play and graphics.
But I wasn't. It was a rush of nostalgia but a whole new experience. Getting all the golden skulltulas, finding all the caves throughout hyrule, and just traversing the land with epona.
Such a great game.
Oh and yeah the soundtrack was absolutely incredible.
the great fairy fountain
damn I love this loop
bumpin' that head boi
I don’t know what this is but I already love it
welcome to the world of dubstep
I already know that you are good at writing scripts, but oh boi this one. I know that being emotionally attached to this game helps this. But you really nailed the exact feelings of this piece! You 110% need more subscribers! Good work pad.
thanks dude! yes I had a blast writing this one, wanted it to be a longer one cause there is really so much to talk about with not only the zeldawave EP but N64 audio in general.
I wasn’t born to experience Ocarina of Time, but I love how you were able to project that nostalgia through the video. Reminds me of the feeling I had playing games as a kid. Keep up the great work Pad!!
Thank you James! Hey dude, we all got those games that are dear to us from back then. I know you gotta have a nostalgic equivalent to this game!
Pad Chennington I gotta root for my old PS2 and find those nostalgic games
really underrated video, it looks like a lot of work went into it.
pls make more info videos when you have the time, they're insightful and good
will do :)
I totally feel the same about starting up games, every time I start I just shut it down and do more productive shit or watch UA-cam. But I love going back to zelda music and mgs sound tracks. For some reason these things always get me emotional those piano versions of the lost woods. Hits hard
you deserve wayyy more subscribers! great video man!
thanks Chris :) heres to the future.
Somehow I knew you were gonna upload today. My week is blessed.
Jose baby u know I hadda do it to em! make Sundays chill again...hope you liked the video!
I asked for this video and I'm so glad you made it. cheers pad

Your visuals are nice, but your writing is even more amazing
I didn’t know you where gonna look at Marble Pawns (Polygon Dreams) you done good.

The editing keeps getting better and better!
Thanks Aaron! the video of the OoT gameplay w the cool VHS effects is the actual edit for the z e l d a w a v e UA-cam video, check it out!
bless this review
no no bless you my friend!
*nostalgia ripping out my heart*
DONT DIE ON ME!!
I found this N64 game in my garage just recently O_O so many memz
ahhh thats the best feeling. that ol crate of games we all have somewhere waiting to be uncovered.
The Legend of Zelda, namely Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, and Wind Waker, are all some of the biggest inspirations to my own musical creations. There was such intricate thought put into what emotions the music would summon, and it left a mark on my musical taste that shows in what I create.
preach!!
I fucking love this channel
:))
I asked you a while back, probably on one of your first videos, to review Escape to New York. Here's to hoping you still pull through. You're still my boy Pad
bb I always keep all suggestions in a google doc...will always try my best to get to em >:)
YES IT’S HERE!!! WOOOO! (Seriously I was so excited for you to talk about this.)
:) hope ya enjoyed it!
Props on the cheeky subtitle, m8
It really is an incredible album. It would have been so easy for somebody to just do the lazy thing of slowing down a few Zelda songs and getting guaranteed views and revenue, but the songs are really well put together.
It is, undeniably, a e s t h e t i c.
in my top 5 favorite albums. pure nostalgia my man.
I feel ya vaporwavegod...the aesthetic can be cut w a knife here. hopefully we got some warm bread rolls too
tastes like pokemon and tomogachi.
I’d love to see a video on Zeldawave II now that it’s out
Guys, just a heads up. Zeldawave is actually releasing on cassette at 12am cst on August 13. geometriclullaby.bandcamp.com/album/zeldawave-oot

You Coppin' my friend?
Pad Chennington glad to say I did
My nostalgia hurts, I'm sad now😢...
Btw I can't listen to "Staff Credits" because I always start crying 😭
Dude I feel you there...I've never heard a greater video game piece ahhh seriously! btw your name...imagine a Stardew Valley racing game lol
Pad Chennington Stardust Speedway is my favourite level in Sonic Games
Fantastic once again :)
Thank you ripironi :) thanks for watching!
got an email from IP that there's an artist doing "churchwave" - church music through a vaporwave filter... no...just no... Vaporwave is scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point...
vaperwave
Follow up from the 8-track. I think I know a way to do vaporwave in surround sound while still being "vaporception" as you called it. Quad 8 tape! One of the many quad or 4.0 surround systems of the 70's. Now that would be cool to see. Especially since most of the quad8 decks could record stereo or quad and play stereo or quad tapes. What do you think of that ?
Good stuff
OoT is alright. Not super amazing, but it's fine. Sorry my first Zelda game is Skyward Sword, so I may not have the same experience as a lot of people. Plus BotW drugged me real good.
The OoT soundtrack is FLIPPING AWESOME though!
Do one about final fantasy wave/kefkawave. It's perfection!
Have ever thought about covering some beats from the Zelda and Chill album?
Tbh coming into this video I'm sitting here eyeing my Eternal Champ vinyls.
saw one of those in barnes n noble the other day! how is it?
@@PadChennington Eternal Champ 1 sounds real good. Eternal Champ 2 I have to turn my setup down because some of the higher pitched notes will make your ears bleed if you blast it.
Nice vid pad as always !
Thank you Tommy! you got the cassette for this bad boi?
Nooo , i wish i had it !

right when I'm organizing my ROMs
perfect timing ey
Do one on fashwave
Honestly, I was not nor currently am an RPG type. This, of course, didn’t stop from buying the latest Geometric Lullaby cassette run (red). So listening to Polygon Dream’s Zeldawave doesn’t bring out the same emotions and sensations as compared to others. But I do know music and I know especially music used as the underscore to anything with a narrative, including video games. As long as the story is well mapped out, the vision is clear and the command of craft is present, you can’t go wrong. And if the source material is solid, its derivative work should also be just as solid.
Nice job all around =]
Thank you Derek :) and congrats on your release brother! best of luck!!!
Hey Pad! You ever listened to Mort Garsons Plantasia?
it's Ocarina of Time btw, without "the" at the beginning
You got me...let me pack up shop im deleting the channel

Song of Storms is my favorite song off the Zeldawave EP.

Already got one!:

Mario 64 is less nostalgic than OoT?
>i personally like Sunshine more, but *eh.*
Sunshine was the bomb. love watching speed runs of it.
Wait so Geometric Lullaby is not the artist? So does that mean b e g o t t e n 自杀 is a real artist too?

i live in texas, we dont have the luxury of basements.

Pad Chennington I'm one of the lucky few that haven't.
Y’all look up swiim Zelda for something similar from Botw
