Avani is a small hamlet in the Kolar district's Mulbagal Taluka, about 80 kilometres from Bangalore.
For those who are unfamiliar with this part of the Ramayana story, it is said that when lady Sita was banished by Rama, her husband, and the king of Ayodha, sage Valmiki sheltered her here at his ashram. Local folklore goes on to say that after being exiled, Sita gave birth to her twins Luv and Kush right here at Avani.
The Avani Betta Trek is not difficult. The trek begins with walking on rock carved steps and leads to some beautiful ruins and temples along the way. The trails are now painted with beautiful paintings of Ramayana events. After passing through some ruins and temples, we arrive at the lovely pond, where lotus can be seen depending on the season. Moving on, we come to a pond known as Lakshmana Tirtha, which can be considered the trek's midpoint. Throughout the trail, one can admire the beautiful formation of boulders.
To reach Sita Parvati Temple, the trail becomes a natural grass trail with rock carved steps. The temple has a nice area at the top where you can enjoy the views of the surroundings. You can also explore the area behind the temple, where there are a few small temples and boulders to discover.
