We bought a place in La Siesta, back in April. We pay SUMA and utility standing charges for the full year, but only use the services for around 5 months or less. We are contributing fully to the Spanish economy. It seems odd that we are not wanted
My wife and i were on the verge of moving to Spain from the UK permanently 2 years ago, but on previous "recon" breaks in Spain we just didn't feel welcome and got the impression we shouldn't be living there. So we purchased a lovely residential mobile home by the sea in the UK, and live in Cape Verde for 3 Months of the year over the Winter.....we love it and feel really welcome to the point of looking for accomodation to purchase
Great video. A big bundle of spot on information, and things to chew on when thinking about making the move to Spain. I've been an Ex-Pat for over forty years thanks to the British army taking me away, then the local lasses not letting go back to Blighty. Ex pat, for me, is a person who makes a choice to go and live some place else, and is financially viable, can set up and be a part of the community, immigrants don't neccessarily want to leave their country but feel they must in the hope of doing better someplace else - which doesn't always work out so well for the host country. Once again, great video; you took me by surprise with how much really useful info you gave while plodding along the promenade. Great stuff, and all the best, Sean
I was a bit negative with rhe first videos I saw. They were always seeming to be discouraging. I now feel more optimistic and am determined to make the move.
Great video once again - The only thing I would add is that the Non-Lucrative Visa is not something new and was in force many, many years before Brexit to enable anyone who was not from an EU Country to come and live in Spain.
Having a little part time thing is difficult in Spain though. 300 EUROs a month NI and that's before you're taxed on what's left. It's either full time or nothing from what I can see.
You're right. The self employed insurance and tax is a bit heavy. It can put the clampers on everything before the starting gun's fired. I lived in Spain a few years ago, and now want to get back down there from chilly Berlin; I'm self employed here, do alright, and I'd say it's about the same problem wise with obligatory health insurance of 220 to 800 euros a month based on income. If you can crack the code of getting new clients regularly, then Spain is totally do-able as a self employed person.
It’s ok but if you are not earning the money very expensive as you know in the uk 🇬🇧 you pay tax end of the year on what you have earned ..Spain you pay upfront I get you get free healthcare for you and your family … it could be adjusted to what you earn
U are right about people didn’t no what they were voting for in the Brexit referendum, I think 🤔 Brexit is no good for the UK god Noe’s what David Cameron was thinking
I am.not bothered what l am called,.l ask to be allowed to integrate and enjoy our family 2nd home about 15 to 20 weeks of the year. We pay all bills year round.
We love it,we live north of Barcelona, both working in the hotel trade for 16 years.l am from Scotland,my wife is from Bulgaria where we will probably retire too.😎👍🏴🇪🇦🇧🇬
I always thought Ex-Pat, was more how your origin country referred to you. When living in another country. Either way, I prefer the term Ex-Pat. Cheers
Costa blanca lovely nice warm climate plenty nice ares depending on budget and if you want it quiet …check the channel plenty of videos along the coast
New York Times, Mallorca 2023… “The fame of English tourists now precedes them in all Spanish cities, including Barcelona and Madrid: they spend little, drink a lot, make a big mess, sometimes even cause serious and serious problems. Almost no one keeps the count of fights and road accidents anymore, but that of sexual violence does and continues to rise…” I mean, Is that true? … if true, we thank Spain to be their fav place on earth 🫡

You are tourists until you are a permanent resident/citizen.

How about the recent floods? Surely that will put some people off especially if you're near the beach.
The floods were inland and its the rivers that were flooded
